Yeah, roleplays don't follow gameplay mechanics, except on the rare occasion when someone makes a roleplay specifically set within a game world. Your swordsmanship would certainly aid in this, though you'd have to keep in mind that you'd be roleplaying alongside people without that knowledge, and teaching them proper fighting etiquette would most likely ruin their immersion.

Well, you can always ask for a summary from the thread owner. I provide a short, descriptive line for each character that joins on my character list, but really all you need to know to hop in is where the group is at currently. Everything else you would be able to pick up through interaction with the other characters. Some threads have specific areas where new people can join, (i.e. you can't join if they're travelling from one town to the next,) but I let people hop on anytime they want.

I think you making your own roleplay is a swell idea, after all, what's the worst that could happen? First hand experience is always the best way to learn.

I know the feeling it is kind of difficult to join a rp that has begun, but it can be done. As for creating a rp, I'd join it I'm not very picky when it comes to rping, whether or not i lose attention for the thread that is a different story

Easiest way to join an active roleplay is to try headhunting an active roleplayer on Runescape and chatting to them about it.
