How did Artorias lose those items that protected him? You can carry thousands of items yourself without losing any in any way!

Well, this is all according to a lore video I watched, but if you want the specifics:

The three items were his sword, his shield, and his ring. He had his sword cursed so he could better fight the creatures of the Abyss. His shield was supposed to protect him against dark magic or something like that. His ring allowed him to walk in the Abyss itself.

His arm was broken so he couldn't use his shield anymore - it only made sense to leave it with Sif. The sword, while meant to fight back the creatures in the Abyss, offered no protection against the Abyss itself.

As for the ring, I'm not sure what happened there. Maybe it alone didn't offer enough protection. Artorias wasn't a human, he was a giant or something like that, which meant his soul didn't contain a fragment of the Dark Soul like all humans do. Because of that he was quite literally out of his element, making him more vulnerable to corruption. Or maybe the ring allowed him to walk in the Abyss, but he could still be corrupted? He did have to make a pact with a creature of the Abyss to forge it in the first place, so there's that. I haven't played the DLC, only watched videos about it, but it seems as though the game is pretty vague in that area.

Just look up Dark Souls Lore: In Summary, on YouTube. It is made by PlagueOfGripes. Watch it with subtitles if you can. It covers the basic backstory of the game. I'll try to answer any other questions you have afterwards with my own understanding of the game's lore.

My strength wasn't in Chemistry, but Biology and in history. I barely passed High School Chemistry, because my teacher was a pretty bad instructor, and I could never grasp anything that she talked about. I passed with a 59.99% which is still a D but just barely. In Biology I had an A+ and the other students wanted to read my answers, so I charged $15 for the privilege... Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy! =)

yes, my cool experiment was meant to be a joke, so I crossed it out via editing the post.

Oh, you can get broken bones in Dark Souls? Considering what happens to your character, even getting hit by a giant metal golem weighing at least several tonnes, there does not seem to be any impact on a rotting corpse. This is a problem I have with games: the lore makes exceptions to the gaming, and the gameplay ignores the biomechanics in lore. What really irritates me is how the wrong terms are used to describe the wrong parts of a weapon. Apparently, they don't know the difference between shaft or hilt, or pommel or head. Really pathetic.

I wonder why Artorias didn't just use those magic spells onto himself, to make himself immune to the evil, rather than doing so on equipment. derp.

I'd imagine that it is the majority of the player base that cannot differentiate between these terms, to the game designers choose whichever would be the less confusing to a player who wasn't in the know.

Anyway, how are you Azi?
