Still on the fence about how to play DA Inquisition again.

I don't like the dwarf's crime background, humans are too boring, elves are way too skinny, and the Qunari... meh.

What I do is add more details to the backstory. For example, My human Was in Loghain's Army at Ostagar and Deserted after Loghain quit the field fled back to the Free Marches.

So the Darkspawn failed to kill not one but three potential protagonists at Ostagar?

Those guys really dropped the ball.

The Warden, The Inquisitor...

Was Hawke at Ostagar?

No but his brother, Carver was

A warrior or rogue Hawke was heavily implied to been at Ostagar so as to look out for Carver. At least, that was my interpretation.

This is why I believe that Inquisition's take on the backstory is superior, It's vague enough for you to make up your own backstory.

It's still pretty restrictive.

Human: You are part of a wealthy family, a highborn noble with strong chantry ties. What? You're anti-chantry? You hate nobles? Too bad!
Dwarf: You're part of this ruthless crime syndicate. What? You don't want to be part of the Dwarven Mafia? Too bad!
Elf: You're part of a Dalis* tribe. What? You don't want to be a wilderness dwelling hippie? Too bad!
Qunari is really the most vague of the bunch.

Well, I wouldn't say the Darkspawn dropped the ball. They did kill the King along with a sizeable portion of Fereldan's army. They had almost killed the Warden and Alistair as well, but then a witch
who, for anyone who hasn't played Inquisition, is actually an elven goddess,
dropped in at the last second and saved them.

You sounded almost like you'd want a Darkspawn Inquistor

That is true, but they had to come up with something to make you part of. Using that backstory format, making you part of something, and giving you free reign to be what you want is impossible, The Elder Scrolls on the other hand don't give you much details other than your being a prisoner about to be executed. Well, considering that almost everyone on the road is a living target, it's safe to say our Bethesda characters are at least slightly sociopathic.
