As far as I can tell it'll take the knights at least a full day of maintaining that upper-jogging pace to reach the tower, and by that point they'd be EXHAUSTED if they managed it.

Mostly since it was supposed to be a, what, 2-3 day walk from Falador to the tower? Far quicker for Seya since she's flying over all the obstacles, and probably has a faster flight speed than we do run speed. I am Inferi.

Yea but I don't know who the captain is that he is referring to -- i don't remember anyone controlling a captain.
There isn't one.
