I love this. Rather impressive that a rather low-budget game produces a soundtrack better than actual horror movies.

This one has more adrenaline,

I'm a fan of Dark Reprises or Ironic Echos - especially of happy themes or motifs that are twisted into a mocking or melancholic tune.

I mean, thriller music has its place – but it’s not something I’d go back and look for. It’s a cheap way to create tension.

But it sounds cool. There's only so many ways to create tension, especially if your game development lacks budget, after all.

Speaking of which, since I'll be leaving in two weeks or so, and considering Dead by Daylight, I got an idea. I was thinking of a shorter RP, of which I assemble several kinds of monsters/killers, who are chosen at random to appear when certain parameters are met. Each monster will have strengths and weaknesses, which the users must assume based on the picture shown, a summary, and backstory of said monster.

For example, you may be able to fight off a monster. Others may be able to overwhelm you by unconventional means, such as by traps, curses/dark magic, haunted environment, etc. This way, users must work together, make plans, and craft strategy to survive a 'cat and mouse'-type RP, but of which the 'mice' are capable of fighting back.

Not sure what time period would work. Dark fantasy-steampunk, dieselpunk, or modern would work. But I'll wait and see.

Not really. You need to find music that perfectly fits the scene/setting, and play it at points where it mirrors what is happening around the player or viewer.

I forgot about Roads, will post soon. I am busy working on getting my trip to Texas ready, so with so many things going on, I forgot about the RP. I should be able to post within two hours from now at most, unless something happens.

Your thread idea sounds more thrilling than horrorfying, Azi! That being said, I don't dislike thrillers.

It's no different than the forced laughter you hear durring sitcoms which tell you when it's okay to laugh. it's one way to get the point across, but it isn't the only way. The absence of noise in an otherwise noisy setting is equally, if not more, unsettling if used correctly... and silence is free.

Good point, West, the idea is more thriller than horror for sure. However, activity seems to be picking up, so maybe it's not worthwhile to create a thriller RP. Nevertheless, if anyone else is interested in this RP idea, I'll go ahead and craft it quicklike.

So far, I have enough Imgur images to work with, for the following settings:
Fantasy-steampunk
Dieselpunk/pre-modern
Modern/post-modern/early cyberpunk (rather apocalyptic/war-torn)
Low scifi/cyberpunk (rather apocalyptic)
High scifi (based in space/huge spaceships)

If there's any specific environment, users are welcome to comment.

Ah, yes, silence in itself is a tool in music and films. Isaac's slow breathing amidst silence in Dead Space, for example, was rather unsettling.

Should I assume that the people who haven't posted for me aren't going to and react accordingly, or would you like me to wait a while longer?

To be honest I was waiting until all the other "aggressive" characters had already charged in.

Yes, which is why some films will shut the music off during a scare, or during a particularly tense scene. It all depends on context. There are some situations where silence is louder than any song, but there are other instances where a good soundtrack can contribute a great deal. And if you do an entire film without music, the audience is going to feel like something is missing.

Remember that horror started with silent films, which had to rely almost entirely on music to generate suspense.

Not really. Music doesn't tell you when it's okay to be afraid. It exists either to build up to the moment you are supposed to be afraid of, or to heighten the amount of fear you are already feeling.
