West,
I recall my friend sending my a link in an email about something about that bear. It's a game where anime girls die in rather uncreative, silly ways.

I dunno, I think a lot of the punishments were rather ironic and well thought out - but I guess you'd need to actually watch the series to understand. That being said, if you think anything unrealistic is uncreative, this definately isn't the series for you. :P

One thing to note is that we are all Westerners. We have a different set of values from Japanese people, especially in regards to honorable death and the acceptability of Suicide.

If I were to use Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans as an example, the death of the protagonist was seen as heroic/justified in Japan (because he had nothing left to live for, and the enemy probably weren't going to let him live anyway, so he "lived until he died" on the battlefield) - whereas Westerners generally saw his death as needless brutality and couldn't understand why he had to die in such a scummy way (presumably they wanted him to live so he could take responsibility for his as-of-then unborn child, and because he was still a child himself).

I'm not sure a Japanese themed thread would work on these forums, mainly because we don't really understand their ideals. Perhaps it would be better to write something closer to home.

All good points, West. I do have Hagakure and The Book of Five Rings, which I like reading once in a while, but indeed, there's no way I could ever produce samurai culture for what it actually was. That is, the best I could do would be to recreate historic scenes and then let the audience decide on their own.

As an example, a historical black knight, Zawisza Czarny, had a similar death to the character you described. Zawisza disobeyed the orders of the king, and fought to the death against overwhelming odds against the Turks. He lived until he died, viewing an honorable death despite brutality as more important than fleeing the battle. He was forty-nine years old when he fought to the death.

everyone stuffed?

(yes, I know yesterday was an American holiday, but that doesn't exclude the possibility of people around the world engorging themselves on food and desserts for any one of a number of other reasons)

Nope, I don't eat much. Oddly enough, this year, I've been forcing myself to eat more, to an extent that stomach problems/indigestion are a common ailment for me. When I checked my weight, I lost seven pounds :/ I guess I'm destined to be slim forever. I naturally have a narrow waist, long legs, and a narrow torso, a bit like a girl's body, except that I am heavier and stronger than I look. I currently weigh 183 pounds, and used to be able to bench press 120, but ever since I screwed up the tendons in my left arm, my work-outs have definitely lost some intensity. My left shoulder also feels weird, sometimes pops then I can't push with it. I guess I'm destined to be a slim guy.
