Fish, if someone else doesn't sufficiently provoke Zensira, feel free to skip me for the next post. I know it has't come down to it yet, but I wanted to let you know before anyone got to the point of waiting for me. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Poland celebrates her 100th anniversary of Independence Day today. The march consisted of about a quarter of a million people, despite attempts from politicians to have the march banned. Hopefully, Al-Jazeera won't get befuddled between Nazis and the nation that suffered genocidal slaughter against said Nazis. Seems like more and more people nowadays can't differentiate between fascists and people who died fighting fascism.

Over time, the original understanding of how a phrase came into existence can be lost .... or dulled. Eventually people understand the general concept of how/why it is used, but they don't think to use it in the appropriate context.

Here, you have a term that for 2 generations was used as an insult. Yes, the people who threw around the term knew was a Fascist was. They knew them. They fought against them. Others suffered under them.

Now, you have generations that are so far removed from it ..... they try to use it. They know it is an insult. They know it is supposed to hurt someone, like calling them an idiot or such.
But you are quite correct. There are people being called fascists that are not fascists. They are a lot of things that are nasty/inappropriate to say, but technically, they aren't Fascists.

Good points, Subject Delta. I never thought of the insult game, actually, but it makes sense: it's an insult. The BBC describes Poles as neo-Nazis and fascists, but this is just their mask for Polonophobia. Hunh, makes sense all of a sudden.

It's just that, celebrating Independence Day does not mean you're a fascist. Nationalism doesn't make you a fascist, either. As a Canadian, I like Canada, and am proud of Canada. Canadians are friendly to all immigrants (though some idiot on a bicycle used pepper spray on some Syrian immigrants a couple years ago), and everyone has a chance to have a good life. Things aren't as good as they used to be, but I am proud of my country for its tolerance, hence I am a nationalist by definition.
