Oh. I never watched The Last Airbender, so I couldn't know. The only solution that could correlate fire and lightning, is that since lightning is plasma, and plasma creates combustion, in that sense, the two magics could work together. The sun is also plasma, for example, quite a gigantic mass of plasma and gases. Speaking of which, lightning being "sun magic" in Dark Souls may be a reference to plasma.
