To be fair, Mass Effect is kind of a mess when it comes to mechanical trade tools. I mean, omni-tools and omni-gel seem to fix everything... yet Mass Effect 2 and 3 show us that they do have specialised tools for mechanics.

I mean, what's the point in data pads when everyone already weilds a portable computer on their hands?
