About remote bodies,
I never seen Avatar. The idea of controlling mechs in a dream state is not something I think can happen, unless you're a Metamorph. I feel it's best to not have remote bodies. There needs to be risk for those who operate vehicles, after all!
My idea was... a little darker, and somewhat inspired by Gundam IBO. The technology itself would be considered a flawed outdated notion, if not outright illegal because it sync's the user's nervous system with the Synth. This could lead to irreversable paralysis or loss of function in the user's body when over-exerting the unit to a weaponised capacity.
Regardless, I think automated bodies would be preferable advancement over AI, for the same reason why Joker pilots the normandy instead of EDI (in the Mass Effect universe). If AI comes in contact with another AI, the best AI will always win - but humans can make mistakes, so their next action is always an unknown.

That all works, West, but you know about this subject more than I do, so I'll leave you to it for now. I don't think I have any more room to insert remote bodies, but you're welcome to expand upon it in your bio if you want.
With an awnser like that, I think it might be best to stick closer to the script. Luckily, I have something in mind.
Before I brainstorm any further, can I assume the thread is intended take place over several (ingame) years? Enough so to mature Annie into a young woman?
Edit: I also find it kinda ironic that the rebellion is flown flying the french flag. I mean, have they ever won a war that wasn't againt themselves?

Napoleon.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
It doesn't really matter that he was defeated, though, as it doesn't pertain to what was actually being answered.
