It was pretty awesome when the Arbiter stabbed him, though. My main gripe with Halo 3 was how they killed the Gravemind offscreen.

Right, that's why you'd make a sympathetic doctor in service to the person that you want your character to be kidnapped by more than anything else.

It kinda defeats the whole purpose...and is so very meta. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

I mean I'm okay with breaking from canon up to a point, but collectors using scientists of other species? Yeah, no, they'd sooner turn any scientists into husks for their Reaper overlords.

Being 'kidnapped' by collectors means you're getting turned into a husk, not kept prisoner and experimented on. Well... Okay, experimented on, but you'd lose your mind and become a husk. I am Inferi.

The reapers do make use of exceptional organics. If they have a definitive use, like a renowned scientist, they can't be indoctrinated because indoctrination skewers higher order thinking.

If we wanted a concrete backstory, we could say the reapers prevent the scientist from escaping because they are being subconciously told they need to stay behind and aid the "prisoners".

I don't think there's much experimentation. It's more that you just get stuck on a spike and BOOM you're not really human anymore.

Actually, never mind, you get processed so that your organic material is inserted into the next Reaper shell and can therefore perpetuate the cycle.
