Hi Annie :) .

So, what are some ways you guys find motivation to write? In general and specifically bios :p . I'm not a natural writer at all. I can think of a decent idea but when it comes to writing it down, I freeze up and stare at my text editor trying to think of the best way to say it.

I am the same way, Seerek. Generally I think of these things years before I write them down on paper. That said I find most of my inspiration from video games. I'm still writing things from a time when I was in the Fourth Grade. I also watch nature. Often times when I can't think of anything to write down, I take a walk down the nature reserve outside my house. Often times I find the inspiration I seek watching nature. It is glorious to watch a hawk swoop down on a rabbit and be outsmarted by it.

Other times, It starts out as an idea, and you quickly like the idea, and then you build upon it, and then once you have a master plan, you develop it further, and voila, you get a story.

Other times, I read another person's story, and then an idea pops into my head.

I also find inspiration from Shakespere, whom I idolize. Also films can offer inspiration.
Inspiration could even come from food . it's strange to think of, but food can often place a thought in your head. particularly when you are trying to describe how a food tastes. Drugs can also help, but only losers use drugs.

Writing definitely sounds like it's your element. I get a lot of ideas while walking around my neighborhood (I'm very jealous that you have a nature reserve in your back yard).

I come from a computer science background, and I think that's where my troubles with this kind of writing stem from. There is plenty of room for creativity in both programming and narrative writing - you can build/create whatever you want. The difference is that I can look up best practices in programming and learn the best way to build, while writing doesn't have that.

So I find myself with interesting ideas, and faced with literally infinite ways to express those ideas. It's at that point where I loose my motivation because I'll think of something that sounds better than what I've already written and write it that way. In two hours I'll have rewritten the same paragraph 30 times...

And I've only written one post! At this rate, I may finish my bio for The Lost Kingdom next Friday.

Edit: @Annie Yeah, I can see practice helping. Perhaps I'm just expecting too much too quickly. How long have you been here?

I get inspiration from music, comments, reading other stories, reviewing content, and just living the art. First and foremost, be free, and do whatever you want to. Simple, but this works the best for me. However, most of my active projects can only be found in Wattpad. My username there is JonathanKonopka, and currently, I've been working on my surreal apocalyptic scifi story Flames of a Broken World. I also made some progress on my Legend of Zelda fan*ic, but it's been two weeks or so that I've finished and uploaded a chapter.

bottom line, is if you can't think of something, then keep writing, tapping the desk thinking of what to say does not help, whatsoever. but don't spend all day inside like a caveman inspiration comes during the most unexpected times Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy! =)
