So far, for this world I'm making, I have:
-Humans. Control a large feudal nation divided into Dukedoms. Each Duke swears fealty to an Emperor. When the Emperor dies, the Nobility gathers and votes to elect a new one. Each Duke is allowed to put themself forward as the candidate. There's also a smaller human nation comprised of loosely allied city-states, that constantly gets attacked by the Orcs and the Empire.
-Dwarves. They have four main underground cities connected via tunnels. Much of their food comes from massive underground mushroom and moss farms, and keep giant rats and moles as livestock. For the rest, they trade with the surface.
-Tribal Orcs, who employ Viking-style battle tactics. They are on their own separate island, and frequently raid coastal settlements on the mainland. They keep goblins as slaves and trolls as pets.
-Drows, who control a large sea-based empire loosely based off Japan.
-Centaurs, who used to be tribal until they were united under one ruler. Very similar to the Mongolians.
-Elves who reside in a massive forest. They are divided into several nomadic clans, but have one permanent settlement that serves as a meeting point in times of crisis.
-Gnomes. Not sure what I want their culture to be like just yet.
More will come in the future. There's currently a massive empty space in the middle of the map that I don't know what to do with.
Edit: I may also include:
-Pixies
-Ogres
-Draconians (humanoid dragon-creatures)
-Avians
Anyone have any other races they'd like to suggest?
Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.
