The high school I went through was based on old-style, outdated, incomplete textbooks. I remember a map listing Poland as an enemy of Napoleon during his campaigns, which is ridiculous, as Napoleon had Polish soldiers in his army. Ridiculous misconceptions of the Middle Ages were also taught.

Curiously enough, Ferdinand also wanted to empower the Slavs, make them the third component of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. I dunno why the Serbians wanted war, it just made everything worse. The various Slavic nations have gone through hell during both World Wars, especially Poland. My grand father helped save some Jews during WW2, and was nearly killed by the SS several times. Curiously enough, after the war, he helped save several SS officers who he was best friends with, by taking them to Poland to live with him for a short time. It's sad to see Germany suffer right now, as well as the suffering after what happened in Orlando, but we can always be brave against all evil.

I knew nothing of the Black Hand prior to googling it; our highschools tend to blotch out anything beyond the Gallipoli campaign. To hear the historians tell it, you'd think it were the turning point in the war instead of the colossal mistake it seemed in hindsight.

(Dammit, Azi, you're having a bad influence on me! :P )

Speaking of the Black Hand, are there three groups now under that name in the thread? O_o

Heh, the things you miss out on! Wold War One was so stupid, it was literally fought over nothing, for no reason. Quite many failures ensured throughout the war.

Oops, am I being a bad influence on you West? I actually respect my grand father for what he did; I forgot to mention that the SS officers (one was a woman) he helped save were involved in the plot to assassinate the Third Reich, but they managed to escape, and took refuge in Poland.

Presumably, Black Hand is a generic term for any seriously threatening underworld criminal society.

Yes Annie, I did read all of that in this thread, I read everything, even other users' RP posts in other threads. In Into the Fire, I've read every post posted since I joined. Although I am not reliable to answer specific questions, I try to understand the world I'm part of. I think you mentioned something about Jim's Black Hand being magical and using its magicalness to support magical people against those who oppress magical people in the past, quite a useless reason, seeing as the thread has no mention of oppression of magic-users unless they work with the dark arts or necromancy.

Good thing the church doesn't seem to have any power in this setting, they'd make the perfect antagonists for Annie's Black Hand revolution. Y'know, seeing as how they're always portrayed as anti-supernatural.
