Generally, yes you can trust the History Channel. No, I am not saying that you shouldn't base your knowledge on TV, I was talking about where history comes from. When a television program mentions direct quotes or shows archaeological evidence, that's excellent. But some documentaries are really, really bad, such as the Battlefield Detectives when they explore the longbow in a most unauthentic manner. Nostradamus was talking about Italy and Germany mostly; everything he said does not go beyond his contemporary environment, so you are right in that he can be ignored, as can the Ancient Aliens, who explore history in a very odd form.
