"Did...did you just do that?" Magenta was just as astonished as the boy. Almost entirely forgetting about the body in the building she quickly snapped back to it. Surely enough a body laid on the edge of the second story now covered in burnt, black skin with a thin line of steam rising off of it. "Oh geez! There's a man up there!" As the words left her lips, the limp body began to slide over the edge. The scorched corpse landed with a thud on the stone street below with a now apparent five pointed star shape carved into his chest.
The boy grasped Magenta's forearm. "We should get out of here, now." The girl showed resistance to move as her response. She was obviously more concerned with the dead man. "A dead corpse isn't going to talk to you!" She still refused to move. "Unless your death runes can work in reverse you're not gonna' get anything out of that guy! Someone else got out of the house and went that way!" He raised his arm and pointed westward. "Now come on!" She flinched at the realization of how right he was and finally started to move. Breaking into a run they both fled the scene and continued to head in their original direction.
The surrounding area was once again quiet, apart from the light panting of the two children who were running down the street. The burnt building behind them was now just a speck in the distance, and the open gap in the wall guarding the town of Varrock was right in front of them. Beyond the exit was the vast forest separating Varrock from its neighboring towns. The trees swayed in a silent breeze and left and ominous feeling with them.
"Well," Daskal purred, "back to the adventure I presume?" The boy stroked the fur on Daskals head.
"Of course, now that the other problems been dealt with," replied the boy.
Magenta stood with a dumbfounded look on her face. "Who are you talking to?"
The boy looked back at her with an equally puzzled face. "Daskal of course."

Magenta was now completely puzzled. She knew that Daskal was the boy's cat, but she also knew that cats and humans speak two totally different languages. How is it possible that these two could understand each other? Perhaps the boy just had one of those connections with the animal and could not actually understand exactly what the cat said. That seemed most logical to Magenta.
"You don't actually understand what Daskal's saying, do you?" questioned Magenta who was confident on her deduction.
The boy chuckled. "Why would I not understand him? You can hear him too, can't you?" He stroked the top of Daskal's head in between his ears.
"This is rather interesting," purred Daskal. "Could it be that she doesn't have an ear for cats?"
To Magenta, Daskal's last words just sounded like a clutter of meows. "Didn't you hear that? It was just that 'meow' sound," she said with a cheap imitation of a cat.
"Nope. It sounded just like he said, 'This is rather interesting. Could it be that she doesn't have an ear for cats?' word for word," replied the boy with a slightly confused grin.
Magenta was now truly baffled. Could it be that from his separation from other humans the boy created a voice for his pet cat? Could it even be possible for a human to converse with a cat? And most importantly, why could she not understand what the cat was saying?
"Maybe we should just drop the subject. It's been way too crazy of a morning for me to try and understand stuff like this." Magenta sighed. Thinking to herself she believed this would be the easiest path out of this confusing mess.

The boy nodded in agreement and turned to face the path leading out of the town. "So, why don’t we get back to what I originally planned?" The slight grin returned to his face. "C'mon! I know of this really cool spot out in the middle of the woods! I'll show it to you, but only if you can keep up!" He took off in a mad dash in the direction of the northern set of woods with Magenta following close behind.
As the boy raced through the trees and over the bushes and other woodland debris, he thought about the incident that only happened not too long ago. Where did the man who fled the burning building go? What became of the man who was left behind? And what was with the weird star shaped design on the victim's decrepit body? So many questions were going through both children’s heads. It was all way too much for simple kids to have to worry about.
Soon the children's attention dwindled on the perplexing topics and centered back on the fun they were looking to have. Now that they were a good ways into the woods the light had become dim, since it was blocked out by the trees overhead. The tranquil serenity of the forest had overcome them, and they were entirely oblivious to the dangers that lay in waiting.
The boy stopped at a small clearing, and signaled to his friend to do the same. "Here we are," he said as he let Daskal hop down from his shoulder. "This is my secret spot." The cat glared up at him. "Well, mine and Daskal's secret spot. It's pretty much the perfect spot to do anything. I can practice fighting with my axe." This was apparent from the numerous marks made on the surrounding trees. "I can sit here to clear my head and relax, and there's even a little swimming hole a little ways off."

"You've got quite the set up." Magenta sat down next to Daskal on the grass in the clearing. "It's like your own private paradise." She stretched out her arms and lay back with her hands behind her head. A brief rustling in the nearby bushes caused her to snap back up. "Wh...what was that?"
The boy looked at Magenta. "What was what?" The rustling came back for a quick second. The boy’s gaze shot over to his right where Magenta was already looking and Daskal hopped back onto his shoulder. "Hey! Whoever's over there better come out right now!" he shouted while retrieving his axe from the side of his pants. The rustling grew in noise and number as it quickly spread all around the clearing.
A snickering noise from behind the two kids and the cat caused each of them to spin around and immediately be face to face with a withered green face. "'Ello meal bags!" It was a troop of goblins! Roughly five of the disgusting little green creatures had now closed in on them. "Looks like it’d be 'or lucky day!"
