A snapping sound accompanied by the rustling of bushes broke out from a spot a short distance behind the boy, yet was still loud enough for him to hear it. Without making a large scene, he lowered his left hand to grip his sword slung over his back, but the real threat was his right hand inside the rune satchel. He was frozen in his tracks, but kept facing forward. A brief moment passed with no sound; his very breath seemed like it had stopped. After the brief interval he removed his hands from his weapons and continued walking.
The surrounding forest was nothing to ogle over, but still gave a tranquil feel to the path. The road itself was a good twenty feet across. The dirt that made it up was firmly patted down from not only a number of travelers walking over it, but a great deal of carts being pulled between the towns. Unless one wished to travel along the shoreline or through the forest to the south of Seer's Village, this was the only way to travel between the fishing docks of Catherby to the market of Ardougne. Though, today, no one seemed to be doing much traveling.
From past experience in these parts, Tash knew that a troop of rogues and bandits liked to hoard this area. He had a few run-ins before with the merciless bunch having to travel around to different homes and locations scattered around the land. The last encounter he had made him believe he left quite the impression on the poor highwaymen. Making the earth beneath their feet crumble and then forcing them down into the dirt by manipulating the air pressure above their heads was sure to make them think twice before messing with him.

The sun was on its way into the center of the sky when Tash finally strolled into the midway town, Hemenster. The only real attractions were the lake and the official Ranger's Guild. A contest was held every month or so in town at the lake to see who could catch the largest fish. On the other side of the road, high class archers from across the world would gather in a stunning wooden settlement of its own constructed at the base of the forest. Once in the past Tash had been invited inside by a thankful customer of his services to show him the joys of archery. This was where he had gotten his hands on a bow which he later used to test out new techniques with magic.
A familiar face approached Tash from a nearby building by the lake. "Heya' there, Tash! How ya' been? I haven't seen ya' in ages!" A younger boy only a few years under Tash ran up to him. "When was it last? One month? Two months? Ya' need ta' stop by more often!"
Tash chuckled. "Well, sorry, business doesn't take me around here all that much. I'm actually traveling down to Ardougne today."
"Ahh," interrupted the boy, "so ya're investigating that street murderer? Still doing those odd jobs then?"
The fact that the boy had heard of this ordeal in Ardougne surprised Tash. "You've heard about this guy then? Usually news doesn’t travel this fast."

"Yeah, people leaving Ardougne are always talkin' 'bout it! With this guy and then the bandits out in the woods, this place doesn't seem too safe anymore." The young boy shivered a bit. "But luckily ya're still around ta' keep us all protected!"
Tash laughed again. "Yeah, I guess everyone is pretty lucky to have me around." He struck a dramatic pose to add to his big talk. "But I really can't sit around and chat for too long if I'm supposed to be taking care of this guy. I'll see you again in a day or two."
"Alright! Make sure ta' take care of 'em quick! Me and the others all know ya' can do it." The boy grew a smile on his face as he began to take off back towards the lake.
Tash waved to the boy and shouted, "Make sure to tell everyone I said hello!" The boy nodded off in the distance while Tash began walking down the road again. "Geez, people out here have already heard of this guy. If it's him then he's certainly earned quite the reputation."

Wow, new writing in actually convenient intervals! This probably has no chance of continuing, but I can enjoy it while it lasts.
Oh, and I would think Magenta would have a more interesting combat style, but I suppose there haven't been very many huge and epic combat scenes yet, so whatever.

The path through Hemenster eventually broke out from the town setting back into the forest. A little ways further down the road the trees to the right halted to let a large, empty plain open up, and, for the first time through the whole journey, another traveler was heading up the pathway towards Tash.
The man approaching in the far off distance raised an arm to wave at Tash. To keep up a friendly appearance he waved back. In a few minutes the two men reached each other. The fellow coming from Ardougne had an ecstatic expression across his face.
"Well what a surprise this is." The man was smiling with his hands on his waist. "I rarely ever see someone traveling into town. Usually it's always just the same trade wagons coming and going."
Tash smiled back at the man. "Well I've got some business to do in Ardougne, but I've noticed the significant lack of people coming and going. Midday is regularly the time to see others going between towns."
"I'm sure you've heard of the new killer in the streets down in Ardougne?" asked the man. "He's severely damaged the normal flow of people wanting to come into town, and by now all those who wanted to get out have done so." He raised back his arms in a stretch and yawned. "I should really be going though. I hope you remain safe while taking care of your business." The man eyed the weapons slung around Tash's body. "Though it certainly looks like you're ready for anything."
Tash chuckled as the man carried on with his jog down the path. His eyes roamed from behind him to his right off over the field. Farther to the south the field turned into a farm with plants growing all over the place, but that was still out of sight, which reminded Tash of just how much more walking was needed to be done.
