Great story, although how you have managed to make so few posts in over 7 months is pretty amusing. So I guess i'll check back on it next year to see if your done, or maybe done with this mission :P But since I check out the forums pretty regularly, the least I can do is keep the story from getting eaten. But it's a good thing this is the stories forum, you'd never get off the 2nd page in an active one O_o

Hehe, yeah. :sweatdrop smiley: I tend to hop into things with such vigor, then slowly work my way into being extrememly lazy. Of course, I do have my moments from time to time during which I'll get out like five or six posts. It's great to see a new fan though. I hope you stick around, there's plenty more to come in the future.

I've only got one story on the Story Forums currently. I do have another one in a notebook of mine, and a number of postponed works saved on my computer, but this one is the main at this time. Of course I've also got an RPG in the works, panda drawings to make, anime to watch, laziness to be had. I'm just a really bad multitasker.

The shadows cast on the ground had changed angles and were now heading off to the east as the sun began to tilt off into the western sky. The northern entrance into Ardougne was finally in sight. The guards posted at both corners of the stone wall encircling the city approached Tash as he came closer towards them.
"Halt!" bellowed the guard on the left. "What business do you have in Ardougne today?"
Seeing as these were officials, Tash decided to not dodge the issue. "I'm here to catch the recent serial killer who's been running amok in the streets."
The guard struggled to hold in a laugh. "Well then, be our guest. If you feel like making our job easier then go right ahead."
The sarcasm in the guard's words was overly obvious. He must not have just which mage for hire he was mocking. Regardless of the lowly insult Tash smiled and proceeded to waltz past the guard post into the streets of Ardougne. The level of noise was already louder than Seer's Village, and Tash had only just entered.
The road ahead split into two heading to the left and right. Off to the right was the residential district, which was full of homes and a few pubs, littered between them. Off to the left was the marketplace, which was the source of all the noise, and the direction Tash was headed. The stone walkway gave him the same feeling as the roads in Varrock from when he was a kid.

After coming up around the back of a store, Tash reached the booming market square. Even with the murder on the loose, a large population still existed inside the city of Ardougne. It was like nothing he had ever seen before. Stalls lined the stone covered earth, and were surrounded with people strolling between them or browsing their goods. Tash leapt backwards as a young boy roughly seven years old dashed past him with a bushel of apples held up in his shirt. Not far behind another guard like the ones that were posted at the gate came running past. It was rather obvious that the child had swiped the apples from one of the stalls, but Tash did not want to interfere as it reminded him of his own childhood.
Being a lone boy living in a big city could be troublesome from time to time, as not everyday could fish be caught or fruit picked. So, on occasion, Tash would sneak into Varrock's own marketplace and make away with some food or other supplies. Of course Varrock's market paled in comparison to the one in Ardougne.
Tash sighed while beginning to make his way into the crowd. Even if the man he was looking for was in this mass of people, trying to capture him or possibly fight him would be near impossible. He figured his best plan of action would be to look around for someone who may know more about this, and standing around the edge of the crowd was not going to bring that person out.
"Pardon me," Tash said after tapping a man on the shoulder, "do you perhaps know anything about the recent murders?" The man had a gruff expression on his face, and replied with a grunt then turned back around. He was obviously not a good candidate, so Tash moved on to the next knowledgeable looking fellow. "Hello, sir?" This man turned with a smile on his face.

"Oh why hello there young man!" spoke the brightly dressed citizen. "My goodness! Your clothes are so...ragged!" Tash took a second to look himself over. His shirt was a dark brown that looked like it had not been washed in a month, and his pants were a bland, beige colored, cloth. "You should stop over at my home so I could free you from your dirty wardrobe and show you some high quality garments!"
The man's lisp alone was enough to frighten Tash into backing away slowly with an apologetic look over his face. "Sorry sir, I uh don't think I'll need any new clothing." Before he got far, he bumped into another person behind him and lost his step, subsequently bringing down the one he walked into. "Oh no! I'm sorry!"
"No, no," replied the female behind him, "it's really my fault. I should watch where I’m going."
Tash froze. "That voice. It couldn't be." He twisted his torso around to be face to face with the purple haired girl he had left in his tent this morning. "Magenta! What're you doing here?"
The girl was caught off-guard. "Oh! Tash! What a surprise to see you here." Her muttering was weak. "I did*’t think you'd be coming to Ardougne."
"Quit the act," grumbled Tash. "You followed me here didn't you?"
"Hey! You were the one that tried to leave me back in your tent without saying a word! I knew something was up last night when you were being dodgy!" Magenta's flare was back. "And just because I ran off on you way back when doesn't mean you should do it to me! We're supposed to learn from past mistakes!"
"I guess the rustling bushes back on the path from Seer's Village were you then. At least now I don’t have to worry about bandits tailing me." Tash eased himself back to his feet and brushed off his clothing. He extended his right arm to help Magenta back up.

"Oh my word! This is not good at all! Look! Both of you! Covered in rags!" The questionable man from a few seconds ago rushed over to Tash and Magenta. "I can't believe it! Two disasters are standing right in front of me. It looks like neither of you have seen clean bathing water in weeks!"
Magenta sent a glare at Tash who was already wallowing in the man's insults upon his clothing and bathing habits. To city folk, talking a bath in a river out in the woods probably is not viewed as the cleanliest route.
"I'll tell you what, huns, how about I take you back to my place so you two can clean yourselves up?" The man stared at Magenta. "A woman such as you should not be walking around like a stray cat." He glanced back at Tash mischievously. "On the other hand, you wouldn't look half bad all scrubbed up either." Tash motioned to take another step back. "But I shouldn't get carried away!" he laughed. "C'mon you two my house is just down the road." He swept the two confused yet frightened travelers along with him as he maneuvered out of the busy market and onto the road leading into the residential district.
The houses in this area were built with fine care and precision to show off the wealth of Ardougne, although this was only in the Eastern half. All of West Ardougne consisted of dilapidated buildings, poor civilians, and a supposed plague. Luckily for the Eastern citizens that half of the city was locked off by a massive gate and thick walls.
The three people on the street turned the corner to begin walking down another road full of houses just like the previous ones. The clean man out in front stopped abruptly to spin and begin strolling up the stone walkway towards one of the homes. His neighbors, and old couple, peered out their windows with ghastly thoughts in their heads as they witnessed the man enter with the two others following obediently.

"And here we are!" announced the man. "Home sweet home! Please take your shoes off on the rug and try not to get any dirt on the furniture." The inside of the building was full of elegant looking rugs, finely sewn and well designed upholstery on the nearby couch and chairs, silk curtains strung over the windows, it was only the first room and was already more fancy than anything Tash or Magenta had seen before. "Oh dear! I've forgotten to even introduce myself! How silly of me! My name is Milburn, and it's a pleasure to have you at my humble abode. Call me Mil if you want. Wait here while I go fetch something for you two to wear. After I sort out some clothing I can direct you to my bathroom."
Tash and Magenta were left alone in the tidy and glamorous parlor of Milburn. Both of them were fearful of touching anything to keep from disrupting the overall cleanliness of the room.
"This is one hell of a place," Magenta said in astonishment. "I wonder if all the houses here are this neat. It's certainly nothing like my place back home, there aren't runes strewn about everywhere." She paused. "Come to think of it your place is pretty similar to my Dad's house back in Varrock." Tash chuckled a bit. "Men these days. They're all obsessed with runes."
"Well I've got you to blame," retorted Tash. "Had you not shown off back when we were kids then I'd probably still be clueless."
"Hardly! Runes are practically as common as money these days! Besides, I only cast that spell to help you get rid of those other boys."
"So, how's Varrock been?"
"Oh, you know. Those delinquents have gotten bigger. Some of them going out to slay goblins and whatnot, and some are still hanging around town messing with others. The King declared a makeover of the western half of town to make it more appealing for others to move in, but that was years ago and nothing's been done yet."

"Sounds exciting." The two friends laughed for a bit while reminiscing over their hometown until Milburn pranced down the stairway with two sets of clothing in his arms.
"Here you go." Milburn set the clothes down on a table he had in front of his couch. "I assume that the woman would prefer to have the cleaner water to bathe in, so why don't we let her go first. There may be more clean water to fill the tub with but it's still courteous."
Magenta smiled. "Thank you so much, Mil. You're so kind." She strolled over to the table and picked up the feminine looking attire and quickly disregarded the curious thought in the back of her head wondering why Milburn possess female clothing. With clothing in hand, Milburn directed her through the hallways into the bathroom and let her free.
After making his way back to the parlor, Milburn laid down on the couch in a sly position. "I believe I heard the girl call you Tash before, and you called her Magenta. So then, Tash, what’re you two doing in town anyway?"
"Well, I've come here looking for a particular man," Tash replied as he took a seat on the floor to keep Milburn's furniture free of dirt. "And Magenta is a childhood friend of mine who I happened to have met up with, and then she followed me here."
"Our stories are similar in that respect, Tash." Milburn drifted off into his own thoughts while Tash caught onto what he meant.
