The boy on the ground managed to mutter a response, "Guys! Jump 'em!" Catching the victor off guard a group of other boys of the relatively same age ran out from surrounding buildings and numerous small hiding spots. Soon enough there was a pile of about six children on top of the lone boy with a cat.
"Get off me!" The boy kicked and shoved as he tried to free himself from the bottom of the dog pile.
The now lump headed ruffian approached his subdued foe, and assumed the same mocking pose and tone. "Whaddya' think you're gonna' do now? Eh?" He placed his clean white shoes on the boy's head. "I think we got ourselves a new playmate boys. Oi, Phil, go find some rope so we can properly enjoy ourselves." With the command one of the boys standing around the scene dashed off into an alleyway, as he returned he held in his hands a thick line of rope. "Good. Alright, James," he said to one of the larger kids in the midst of the pile, "hold 'em tight so's we can tie him to somethin'."
The subdued boy had other plans though. Waiting until the other children got off of him so James could try and get a firm grip he made his move. "Daskal, get him!" he yelled to his feline friend pointing his head to his holder. The cat, which had been carried away from the original pile by a scrawny boy, unleashed his claws and dug them into his captor's arms, which made him release the cat to grip the slashes. The cat made a move to his owner and leaped up next to his face with his front claws out and at the ready. His landing on James' face made the boy shriek in pain instantly letting go of the original boy. "Now run!"
"Guys! Get them!" bellowed the supposed leader of the band of pranksters. A crowd of nine boys chased after the other two down the roads of Varrock towards the western gate. The boy being chased skidded to a halt and turned to face his followers, and withdrew his axe.

"Stop where ya' stand or I'll gut ya' all!" The boy threatened waving his shiny gray weapon towards the others.
"Well look at that! He wants to fight us!" laughed one of the opposing boys.
"I still don't understand how a kid who smells of rotten fish and spends all of his time talking to his pet cat coulda' found such a weapon, as well as his huge amount of mindless courage." Mocked another kid.
"So why don't we just get this over with?" asked another one of the gang. "He wants a fight, so let's give 'em one!" They started to approach the boy and his axe each one retrieving their own weapons; mainly daggers only big enough to kill a rat or a squirrel. "Charge him!" They broke into a run, with their daggers at the ready, only to be stopped abruptly by a bright red explosion in front of their steps.
"Restrain yourselves!" shouted a feminine voice. From within yet another alleyway appeared a girl, also roughly the same age as all of the others. "Whaddya' boys think you're doing here? Teaming up nine to two."
"Stay out of this, girl!" smirked one of the boys. "That kid started it! He attacked Albert with his axe!"
The girl advanced upon the troop. "Oh did he now? It looks to me like Albert's just fine. Nothing’s gonna' be cracking that thick skull of his!"
"Watch what you say 'round here!" The boy moved towards the proudly standing girl.
The girl reached into a pocket on her purple dyed, billowy pants. "You sure you wanna' mess with me?" Pulling her hand back out of her pocket she clapped it together with her other one then opened them towards the boys. A giant flaming mist tried to engulf them as they scurried away like a dog with its tail between its legs. Now only three remained, the girl, the boy, and Daskal.

The girl skipped gracefully over to the boy, who stood with his mouth wide open at the display he had just witnessed. She stopped a foot away from him, and gazed curiously at his stunned expression. Then she moved her eyes to the cat perched on his shoulder like a parrot.
"Well aren't you cute," the female said with a cheery, girlish voice, as she started petting Daskal's head. "And you aren't that bad yourself." She grinned at the boy who had now just noticed she was standing next to him. "Could do with a shower maybe."
The boy snapped back into reality. "It's kinda' hard to get the smell of dead fish and sweat out of your clothing, so I just get used to it. I know for a fact that Daskal doesn't mind much."
The girl ceased her petting. "So his name's Daskal? That's a funny name."
"Oh yeah? I doubt your name is any less funny."
"Now who said that having a funny name could be bad?"
The boy sighed. "What's your name then?"
Seeming glad that he asked the girl replied, "I'm Magenta."
The boy was puzzled. "Your name is a color?"
"Ugh, I hate always having to explain this." Magenta took a breath. "My dad's a wizard, and he's always thinking he's such a clever guy. So it figures that he would make his daughter's name a pun. Since another word for wizard is mage and the word mage is in magenta and of course to go along with it further he always dresses me in purple or red outfits. See how I'm dressed now?" The boy took a brief look over the girl. She had on her loose, purple pants, some plain, dark red shoes, and a short sleeve, faded, purple shirt. Her skin was pale and her hair looked to be dark blue or a very dark shade of purple. Her eyes were a smooth hazel color and she looked like she had a very sympathetic yet embarrassed look on her face. "Yeah, he also dyed my hair, but I can't really say it doesn't look cool."

"Well that's certainly an interesting story, and it's all about your name." The boy drooped his head and stared at the street beneath him. Looking over each stone in the road, and how each one locked together in their own special way, how no single stone was left without an adjoining rock.
"So now that you know me, who are you? I always see you walking around town with your cat," inquired Magenta. She had always wanted to speak with him, and try to figure out more about the lone boy.
"I...don't have a name," murmured the boy in a quiet tone.
Magenta was taken aback. "You don't have a name? Don't tell me everyone's just been calling you 'kid' or 'boy'. Didn't your parents give you one?"
"I don't have any parents. I've never had any, and I've come to accept that. It is just me and Daskal." The boy did not seem to be entirely sad about his lack of a name as well as a lack of parents.
"So why didn't you just come up with your own name?"
"I never really needed to call myself by a name. I get by fine just being me."
"Well why don't I come up with a name for you?"
The boy placed his axe back in the space on his belt. "Nah, getting a name now would just be kinda' bothersome. It's too late for me to get used to having one."
"So you're just gonna' go through the rest of your life without a name?"
"I guess. I never really intended on doing anything that would make me need to have a name."
An awkward silence followed. Both of the children just stood there waiting for the other to speak. By now the sun was already blazing down on the streets of Varrock. Morning had officially arrived, and sooner or later the town would be filled with people walking around, talking, shopping, and doing a number of other activities.

"Why don't we start walking so's to not get swept away by a crowd?" The boy motioned to the girl to start walking westward with him. She took the hint and began to follow. "So what exactly was that big flame thing you made to scare off those other boys?"
"Heh, well you know how my dad's a wizard and all? He spent some time teaching me some spells and whatnot, and how to use runes." Magenta reached into her pocket like she had earlier and retrieved a small coin sized rock with an insignia of some sort on it. "This is a rune, I'm sure you know that. If you have the proper ones and knowledge of how to use them then you can take the magical energy out of them or something and turn it into a spell. That fire spell you saw was just some fire, air, and chaos runes."
"Fire and chaos? Those things sound kind of dangerous." The boy looked carefully at the other runes Magenta grabbed from her pocket. A bunch had white, wavy lines on them, a couple others had what looked like a small fire, and one even had a skull on it. "Is that skull one a chaos rune?"
"Nope, it's actually a death rune, but I'm not really all that good at any spells that use death runes. But they're really not all that dangerous." She scanned through her pocket and plucked out one with a white face outlined in orange. "This is a chaos rune." She held it out in front of the boy's face. "See? It's not dangerous at all. But when I combine it with these fire and air runes." She once more clapped her hands together and released a burst of flame into the air. "You get a fire spell."
"That's amazing." The boy was astonished at the sight. "Just how many sorts of spells are there?"
Magenta shrugged. "I'm not sure, I don't even think my dad knows just how many spells there are. Who knows, maybe people are discovering new ones as we speak."

That same awkward silence returned. The boy was too entranced thinking about magic to talk, and the girl did not feel like interrupting his fantasy. Citizens of Varrock had begun to clamber out of their homes and into the streets managing to break the silence with their chatting in the distance.
The western part of the down was more desolate compared with the east half. There were not any inhabited homes, and most of the area was crowded with run down houses from years past. This was also a breeding ground for all sorts of gangs, like the two highly known Phoenix and Black Arm gangs. Of course this side of town had its perks as well, such as the second Varrock Bank, which saved many people the trouble of having to run all the way back to the east end. A number of small, home-owned shops were littered within the crowd of old homes as well.
A shutter on one of the houses clacked against the worn out exterior making a startling noise. "Eep!" shrieked Magenta as she moved closer to the boy for a sense of protection.
The boy made note of the house causing the eerie sound. "Relax; it's just a broken window." The boy tried to calm Magenta down.
"Are you sure? I coulda' sworn I saw something move in that house!" The girl muttered back. She was now increasingly nervous while the boy tried his hardest to reassure her it was fine.
"Listen, I come around here all the time, and that house is always making noises. But y'know what? There's nothin' I can do about it. And even if there is someone inside, it's not like I'm gonna' just waltz on in to find out. If anyone does happen to pop out I'll make sure to take care of 'em." The boy smiled at Magenta while he pulled out his axe and rested it on his shoulder. "If ya' didn't interrupt me earlier you coulda' seen just what I can do with this axe!"
Magenta smiled a little, and let a giggle escape her lips. The boy had done a suitable job at settling her down.
