Arkeon took off his black caverlier and set in on the ground in front of Underground’s headquarters. He knocked on the thick wooden door and then hurried out of sight.
Several metal locks were unlatched and as two very large men clad in a very dark shaded armor opened the door and picked the cavalier off the ground. The guard looked inside the hat and found a scroll hidden in the brim of the cavalier.
The Underground could never be too careful about having people overhear their conversations. Traditionally they communicated matters of the up most importance through notes hidden in the inside of hats. The kingpin had once explained to him how only one out of every one-hundred people would be suspicious enough to pick up a discarded hat. There were also rumors circulating that the White Knights had been able to rig their commorbs so they could be used to spy on enemy conversations.
As the guard unrolled the scroll and his face was engulfed in horror as he read the message. The second guard tapped his comrade on the shoulder.
“What is it?”
“Garth has returned to Burthrope and shortly after disappeared,” he replied fearfully while handing his fellow guard the scroll. The guard's eyes lit up. They both knew they had to take this to the Kingpin right away. The Kingpin would want to know every tidbit of information discovered about his old enemy Garth. There had been some bad blood between the two of them, some very bad blood.

Author's Notes:
Well I'm making some pretty good progress getting the old story copied and pasted onto this one. The writing is like 10 months old and is no where near as good as my current stories, but I hope it isn't too terrible.

The desert was a lawless and brutally harsh place to be, yet to Kane it felt like home. He was away from the bustling streets of Falador, and he simply liked the peace and quiet. Sure, the desert was a very dangerous place, yet he felt safer and more relaxed here than in Falador or with the White Knights. Kane was like a drifter; he was born to walk alone.
Kane had ditched his armor way back at Shanatay's Pass. He was now dressed in traditional desert robes with a very large cross of Saradomin dangling around his neck. He would have quickly become vulture feed had he tried to navigate the scorching temperatures in his heavy armor. His weapons dangled at his side and across his back he had his trusty obsidian maul. On his head he wore his favourite Black Cavelier, dangling over his eyes to help hide his face.
All around him were men with scimitars and half-dead slaves in cheap rags. The slave trade in Al-Kharid had greatly increased and was now smuggling slaves to all over Runescape. The vicious treatment the slaves received made even Kane flinch.
Kane had reached one of Al-Kharid’s trading cities deep into the desert. It was a rural city like most of the desert. He navigated the streets of the local bazaars until he was at a house made of clay with two large guards standing beside the door.
“Stop right there!” Yelled a bearded guard with a thick desert accent.
“You must have an appointment to meet with Master Agra,” the other guard responded.

There was a flash of metal as Kane quickly drew his dragon scimitar and cut open the second guard’s throat. He sheathed his scimitar and looked at the other guard like nothing had happened.
“Ice blitz!” Kane yelled. A rush of ice hit the guard and ran up his body. He tried to draw his scimitar, but was greatly slowed down by the heavy ice. Kane was no Kargill, but he was pretty experienced in magic. Kane unslung his giant obsidian maul from across his back and swung at the guard, crushing the side of the man’s skull. He turned towards the door and swung again. There was a large crack as the heavy oak door’s hinges broke and the door fell toppled forward.
The inside of the house was surprisingly nice and well furnished with assorted golden treasures and trinkets. Sitting at a excellently crafted mahogany desk was Agra. He was an older man with sun damaged skin, and wearing simple desert robes. Agra had a look of horror and fear across his face.
"Kane! You are alive!” Agra exclaimed.
“You seemed surprised by that,” Kane replied coldly.
“Well of course I am! We all thought you were dead! You have been gone for over two years!” The initial shock of seeing Kane had worn off and Agra began to regain his composure.
“The Underground has missed you Kane,” Agra said with a smile. "You know you could have just knocked."

“So, what brings you here?” Agra asked.
“I am here about the Underground,” replied Kane. Agra simple frowned at this.
“I can not talk under these… conditions,” Agra replied, gesturing towards Kane’s weapons. Without a word Kane set his obsidian maul on the table, followed by his scimitar and his dagger. Agra then set his own sword on the table before picking up the weapons and locking them in a nearby drawer.
“Now, where were we?” Agra asked.
“I need to know more about the Kingpin and the Underground’s operations in Varrok,” replied Kane.
“Well there is not much to say. The Underground is trying to expand its reach of crime to Varrok as well as the rest of Runescape. I have no idea where they are actually located in Varrok though. As for the Kingpin, he has been very uneasy lately.”
“Uneasy?”
“That traitor to the Underground, Garth, vanished again.” Kane thought about telling Agra that Garth was rotting in the White Knight’s dungeon, but decided against it. Such knowledge would give Kane the upper hand.
“So you follow Saradomin now?” Agra asked, eyeing Kane's cross.
*Yes,” Kane muttered. “Is the Underground responsible for the slave trade in the desert?”
“Even if I knew I would not be allowed to tell you.”

“I just answered your questions. Now are you going to tell me where you have been for the last two years? Have you been undercover?
“Something like that. I can not really specify,” Kane replied, thinking about his time in the White Knights. "Can you tell me any specific locations or names? Even just someone who I could get in contact with would help."
"Once again, I can not help you there. The Underground operates in such a way that their members do not know much about their comrades or the Underground's operations."
“If you can't tell me anything more then I am leaving.” Kane said.
“That’s fine by me. Just let me dial up Varrok and tell them that you showed up.”
“I’m afraid I can not let you do that,” Kane muttered viciously. "You can not let anyone know about this little meeting of ours."
“You’ve been gone for two years! My superiors are going to want to know about you. I HAVE to tell them that you showed up.”
Kane removed his cross from around his neck. He pressed a button and a long blade emerged from the point of the cross. Kane leaped across the desk and stabbed his cross-blade into Agra’s heart. Agra’s heart died and stopped beating almost instantly. With the heart no longer pumping blood there was surprisingly little blood coming from the wound.
Kane withdrew his cross-blade from his victim and started to wipe off the blood. He got up and left towards the drawer holding his weapons, feeling absolutely no feelings or remorse for the murder that had just occurred.
“May Saradomin have mercy on my soul for what I have just done.” Kane muttered.

Agra had not said much, but he did tell Kane some very important information, even if he did not know any names or locations.
First of all, the Kingpin was scared and uneasy about Garth's disappearance. This would no doubt cause the Kingpin to make rushed and poor decisions.
Secondly, the Underground had no idea about Garth’s arrest. The Underground obviously had no leaks in the White Knights. The White Knights attack on the Underground as well as Kane’s personal operations should go off without a hitch.
Thirdly and most important of all, the Underground did not have any idea where Kane had been for the past two years. As far as they knew he had simply disappeared or had been off on a mission somewhere and was still their ally and friend. Kane had the Kingpin and the White Knights right where he wanted them.
Kane stepped over the broken door and into the desert city. He was surprised to see that the dead bodies had not causes much of a stir. The people in the desert were use to death and killings. Although they were not very obvious at first, as Kane continued through the city he noticed he was being tailed by several of the city guards, scimitars drawn.
Kane made a quick turn into a nearby alley and exited the main market street. He continued to hurry along until he was in a more rural section of the city. There were much fewer people here to be witnesses and Kane now had plenty of open space. Kane turned to face the nearly dozen guards who were creeping up on him, his hands fingering his weapon holsters.

The desert city guards formed a circle around Kane. A man in dreadlocks, who Kane assumed to be the leader, stepped forward.
“You are wanted for murder. Surrender and prepare to die,” the man said.
“Shouldn’t that be surrender or die?” Kane objected. The man simply smiled at charged at Kane with his scimitar.
The leader slashed at Kane towards his torso, but Kane quickly drew his dragon scimitar and blocked the blow. The man countered by lashing out at Kane’s knees, but was blocked by his dragon dagger. Kane delivered a low kick the guard and knocked him off his feet while simultaneously stabbing his dagger deep into the man’s stomach.
The leader was now completely off the ground, held up by Kane’s crimson dagger in his stomach. The guard cried out in pain as the dagger sliced deeper into his body. Blood filled the air as Kane slashed the guard across his back before dropping him to the ground. Upon seeing the death of their leader, the guards drew their own weapons and charged the White Knight. Kane simply held his ground and waited for the nearly dozen guards to approach.
Kane ducked under a side swing of a long sword while blocking another guard’s failed stab. Kane turned and cut open the man’s throat whose just scimitar he just ducked under. The guard grabbed at the large cut in his windpipe, unable to breathe. Kane then delivered a swift kick into another guard’s ribs.
A dark skinned man tried to take advantage of his weapon's long reach by thrusting his vicious looking halberd at the White Knight. Kane grabbed the dazed guard, whom he just kicked, by his neck and used him as a human shield, causing the guard to impale his ally’s back.
Kane let go of the guard’s neck and dashed forward. The guard tried to lift his heavy halberd but was far to slow. He received the White Knight’s scimitar punctured into his chest cavity.

A guard with hard leather armor and dual wielding two scimitars slowly began to pace around Kane, patiently waiting for an opening. The guard’s name was Ali, and he was easily the best fighter in the group. His fellow guards were fools to think they could simply go head to head with this warrior. To take down a foe like this one needed to have patience and precise timing.
A young guard rushed toward Kane, holding his two handed sword at his waist. A small pillar of ice seeming appeared out of nowhere and hit the young guard head on. Kane took advantage of the dazed man and made a deep incision into the young guard’s midsection.
Kane now had his back turned to Ali, who raced towards the unsuspecting foe. Ali readied his scimitars and prepared to strike Kane’s back. With lightning fast reflexes Kane turned around and shoved his scimitar under Ali’s collar bone. Ali was paralyzed in shock. How could this man have such good awareness of his surroundings? Kane withdrew his scimitar and let Ali quietly die of blood loss.

Three of the remaining guards grouped together and charged Kane, thinking the three of them could simply overpower him. Kane eyed down his dagger and threw it, piercing one of the guards right above the eye. The guard’s knees gave way and he fell dead to the ground. The fallen guard was ignored and the other two charged with their scimitars drawn.
Kane sheathed his own scimitar and unslung his obsidian maul from across his back. He bended his knees and widened his stance, adjusting to the weapon's immense size. Kane put his weight into the obsidian maul and swung it at the first guard. He hit the guard across the chest, hitting through his steel armor and collapsing his ribcage. The bones in his ribcage broke and were pushed deep into the guard’s chest, piercing his heart. The guard tried to scream, but his vocal chords were paralyzed by the pain.
Despite the obsidian maul’s weight, Kane managed to maintain his balance. He readied his weapon and prepared for another swing. The second guard got close and struck Kane, leaving a small cut down his side before his skull was bashed in with Kane’s maul.
Now there were only two guards left alive. They realized the hopelessness of the situation and dropped their weapons to the ground before running away.
Kane could feel the warm blood running down his side. He put his hand on the wound. The cut went down the length of his torso, but did not go very deep at all. He had prevented the guard from getting close enough to inflict any serious damage.
Kane looked around at the nine dead bodies with pride. He had killed nine trained soldiers with only acquiring a small cut on his side. Garth had trained him well.
End of Chapter 12
