Chapter 7: In Cold Blood
It had been nearly three weeks since Roven and Kargill and captured Garth. Something was deeply troubling Commander Lorad, yet he would not tell the two of them what it was. There was going to be a meeting tonight in which Lorad agreed to tell them what information they had gotten out of Garth.
Kargill was almost completely healed from his injuries, but he was still not back to normal. He pulled his ahrims robes tightly around his body and left the White Knight Castle. Kargill was fatigued, but the healer had told him that he had to get out of bed and get moving.
It was early in the morning and the ground was wet and slick with morning dew. The air was thick and humidity, leaving Falador foggy and with a certain air of mystery around it. People turned to stare at the elf as he made his way down the main road. There were very few elves in this side of Runescape, and he easily stuck out. Kargill wished that he had brought his hood along.
The city was filled with your everyday townsfolk. The merchants lined the roads selling there goods while the people who were down on their luck stood around and begged for spare change. The rich looked down on and spat on these poor beggars. Farmers in overalls walked around with wagons and bags of fresh produce. It was a pretty normal day in Falador.
Then someone caught Kargills eye. A man in dark gray robes was leaning against the wall to the local bank. As soon as Kargill turned to look at the man, he turned his head away and pretended to be looking at someone else. Kargill continued to walk around the city until he saw another man wearing the same dark gray robes, and then another. Something was wrong.

Kargill changed directions and began walking back to the western side of Falador now. Every few minutes he would turn to see that the men in dark gray robes were still following him. Kargill only counted three, but there could easily be more.
One of Faladors many bars was now in sight. Kargill entered and stood there in shock to find that another man in inside was waiting for him. The man had a dagger hidden in his robes and started walking quickly over to Kargill. He pulled out the dagger and lunged at Kargill. The elf grabbed the man by the wrist, and slowly started to turn the dagger back towards the man. They stood there in the middle of the bar unnoticed by anyone else, each trying to gain the upper hand over the other. Kargill grabbed a beer off of a nearby table and then smashed it over mans head, shattering the glass and causing him to go limp to the ground. .
Hey, that was my beer! a drunk who had been sitting at the table yelled at the elf. He tried to punch Kargill, only to have the elf duck under the mans arm and deliver a quick punch into his nose, the bridge of which snapped audibly under the blow. One of the drunks friends picked up a bar stool and then hurled it at Kargill.
The elf dropped to the ground and narrowly avoided being hit by the flying bar stool. He pulled out his staff and smashed in under the mans chin, and then stabbed it into his gut. More and more people began to join into the fight. Soon the building had erupted into a full on bar fight. Kargill quickly ascended the stairs in an attempt to escape the fighting. Upon reaching the top,Kargill looked down to see that two of the other men in gray robes has just entered the door and were now on the look out for the elf.

Kargill had to get out of here. The men in dark robes were getting closer and fast. If Kargill was seen here with these men then people would get suspicious and might start asking questions about his past. He could not let that happen.
Kargill slowly made his way out the open door and onto the bar's balcony, making sure not to attract any unwanted attention to himself. Sitting at a table on the balcony was a man, obviously drunk, trying to get the last few drops of beer out of his mug.
"Excuse me, sir," Kargill told the man.
"What to you elvin folk want?" the man replied, slurring his words.
I just ordered a free round to everybody in bar. Would you like to go in and order your free drink? Without missing a beat, the drunk staggered out of his chair and hobbled over to the door. He rammed his shoulder into the door, but it did not open. The drunk rammed his shoulder twice more into the door before realizing it was a pull door, and pulling it open.
Kargill grabbed the table and moved it over to the edge of the roof which was partly overhanging the balcony. The elf jumped up and grabbed the ledge of the roof, pulling himself on top of the bar

Several feet away from the bar was the roof to the smithing house. Kargill took a running start and used his staff to pole-vault over to the next roof, his feet barely making the clearance, tiles falling of the roof as the landed. Kargill looked around that black tiled roof to notice that there was no door or any way to enter to building. He lowered his staff and fired a magical sphere into the roof, creating a man sized hole. Kargill slipped in and landed with a bang on the wooden floor.
Kargill slowly made his way through the building and out the front door, getting a few suspicious glances by the people on the bottom floor attempting to purify their ore. Standing outside the entrance to the smithing house was another man in dark gray robes.
Kargill waited until there was no one looking, and then he smashed his staff over the back of the mans head. The man's knees locked up and he toppled over like a tree. Kargill slid the body into the alley and laid it behind a group of trash cans. Two more men clad in identical clothing now exited from the front of the bar, and one of them was coming right towards Kargill. The elf pushed his back up against the wall, and hid himself behind the trashcans with the unconscious body. He drew his crystal sword and waited for the man to pass.

Kargill lunged out from his hiding place and tackled the man to the ground. As he struggled, Kargill slipped his sword under the mans throat and covered his mouth. The man immediately knew it was time to stop moving and listen.
"
"Who are you?" Kargill asked.
My name is Rathor you elfin scum," the man spat.
"What are you and your men doing here?" I thought I already dealt with your kind.
"We will never stop coming, never! You shall pay for what you did to us and our Lord. You will pay you worthless infindel! No matter where you go we will hunt you down and find you. Not until the time of your death will you be safe from us." Kargill stood their motionless, remembering his dark past.
"What are you going to do with me now? Take me to jail?" Rathor asked.
"I have a much better idea." Kargill sheathed his sword and covered the mans eyes and mouth. Magic began to flow through his hands and into Rathors body. With Kargills blood magic he slowed the blood of the struggling Rathor to that of a slow trickle. He then surged ice magic through the man, completely freezing and clogging the mans blood steam. With his veins clogged and no longer pumping oxygen, his brain began to die. The heart was pumping vigorously now, trying to move the frozen blood. Rathor was going into cardiac arrest. Kargill dropped the dying man to the ground and placed him near the garbage cans.
By the time anyone would find the body the blood would have thawed and the autopsy would be that Rathor died of a simple heart attack. It was the perfect murder.
End of Chapter 7

Author's Notes
I was pretty happy with the previous chapter, so I did not make much changes to it this time around. The only thing different is the color of the men's robes who attacked Kargill. Originally their robes were dark red. Although this certainly doesn't seem like much of a change, later in the story you will begin to see the importance of this. Just think to yourself, what does the color dark red represent?
But wow does rewriting this story bring back memories. I wrote this chapter back in April, and man have I changed, not just in my ability but how I write. When the original In Bad Company came out it was my first story other than my popular noob story Noble Noob. I wrote like crazy, and within two weeks this story was nearly 70 posts long! My newest story has been out for a month and a half and now only is 30 posts long. *Smiles sheepishly*
Again, my improvement in my writing has been drastic. I look at the old version and start thinking "Why did I put this there? Wow was that an amateurish thing to do." In fact, just comparing the beginning of THIS version of the story that I wrote in September and my newest story Balance of Power which I wrote in November and they seem like they were both written by entirely different authors!
