Thirty minutes later, and the entire palace was in a lock down by the gang, now it was time to do something else. There was a small area inside the palace itself, where one tall tree grew, there was a bench and other plants and it used to be the Queen’s garden, until she demanded more space and moved to a different location. Servants used it to relax at after she got bored with it, but now it was going to assist in something quite different.

The delivery man removed his mask and let out a sigh of relief, the whole operation wasn’t a big failure, in fact it was going according to plan. Roxanne had a nice sway in her hip that was distracting to most male members of The Vial, but as she wrapped her arms around Elder, it was very clear she was off limits. Standing before the massive tree, the members waited patiently for something amazing to happen.

“Ko, will you do the honors, you haven’t been with us in years.” smiling, Ko took the pouch from Elder and used the minotaur to help him start climbing the tree. He climbed and climbed, some branches snapping and causing him to slip, but he did*’t allow it to deter him. He finally reached the top, and using a rope tied a large thin crystal to the top of the tree. He then used a hammer and some nails to make sure the rope couldn’t possibly slip or slide. Going down was much quicker and easier.

“Well I haven’t been with you, since it was my responsibility to look after the Eastern half of our... community.” he laughed softly, the two men were great friends at one point, but were separated for various reasons.

*What, you two boy friends or something?” Truand laughed and puffed on a fat cigar “I been savin’ this thing for a special day, pretty special day today huh guys? Am I right?” some laughter was good enough for him. He had spiked hair, a shaved face, very expensive shoes and a suit. He, along with Roxanne were improperly dressed for stealth or any sort of combat.

“How long will this take?” Kopf asked as he inspected his sword, he never found a reason to use it after the “Don’t kill, take prisoners” order. And to think Elder killed the most out of any of them, the hypocrite. A voice entered Elder and Ko’s minds.

“The time is now.* was it’s simple message. A huge flash of light followed by a silent beam of lightning pouring into the crystal tied to the tree signaled their arrival. Thousands upon thousands of low moans suddenly echoed from all over, in every direction. The dead guards stumbled around aimlessly as their defeated husks were given new life and a new god to serve. Countless fallen servants began to enter Varrock through the gates, killing the guards before they had a chance to react. Some appeared to be zombies, others were just bone being held together by magic, some ran and fought like still normal humans, though their heart no longer beat.

The broken and misshapen abominations however, had orders.

The following morning...

Citizens awoke to find something did*’t seem right. An eerily thick fog had engulfed the entire city completely, and blotted out the sun leaving a grey glow on the ground. Some of the guards stood awkwardly, and some people wondering the streets appeared to be limping or shambling in an inhuman way. But nothing seemed to come of it. Men and women began to leave their homes for work as always.

*Excuse me sir, open the gate please? I have to research som-”

“Not... today.” the guard wheezed and coughed.

“Alright..”

What was wrong? Bakers had men stumble into their shops, walk around and then leave after a few moments. Lumberjacks spotted people just shamble past them, deeper into the wooded areas near Varrock, and then shamble right back.

Lowe was tense and uneasy, he was still in his ‘hunter mode’, where he was alert and ready for action, but now he was stuck in a shop, in thick fog, with what appeared to be a bunch of mentally ill people wondering the street. He kept his bow in his lap, an arrow in his fingers, just in case. A man opened the door, and walked inside and began to browse. Lowe watched him carefully.

“Those people, weird huh?” the middle aged man complained.

“...Yeah, I don’t understand it.” Lowe agreed. The man bought several arrows and a bow, and left without another word. Lowe decided he was going to close the shop early; it’d be noon in a few minutes, he’d close down then. He waited patiently, starring at the ticking clock that hung above his door. And that’s when he saw them, two of them running past his window. The door flung open, he gripped his bow tightly and prepared to aim it... when he realized it was simply Aiden and Caden on their morning run.

“Lowe, you okay?” Aiden said slamming the door shut, and placing a chair to keep it closed. He sighed and relaxed in his chair some.

“I’m fine, yeah. Any reason you barricaded my door?” he took note of the fact they were both fully armored and wore backpacks, filled with supplies.

“I don’t know what it is... but it’s not right.” Aiden seemed to be speaking crazy-person talk, but Lowe had been feeling the same way without vocalizing it, he figured they might need to do... something?

“So what do you think we should do?” he asked the twins.

“Get Azura, get out of town, stay out of town for a few days?”

“Yeah, alright.” Lowe stood up and ran upstairs to get some of his things. Aiden and Caden waited patiently, arms crossed, eyes fixed on the big display window; they tried not to miss anything. Through the thick fog, a single scream echoed, and some fighting was briefly audible before fading out.

“Few punks beating each other up...” Caden tried to tell himself.

“Yeah, sure.” Aiden chuckled, and removed his axe “C’mon, I think we’ll be fighting our way out of here.”

“You sur-” knock knock knock.

“Varrock guard, open up.” a voice called from outside. The two looked at each other, this did*’t seem right.

“A pandemic has broken out, we’re unfortunately obligated to quarantine infected individuals, and because of that we require you to be examined to see if you’re showing signs of the sickness.”

“That sounds like bullcrap to me...” Caden said in a low toned voice.

“It is,” Lowe said running down stairs with a bow in hand “Upstairs, out of the windows... they’re killing people in the streets. Open the door and get ready to kick ass.* The two strapped down their helmets and smashed the door down, Lowe let an arrow loose into the throat of the rotting guard. It stumbled back, and it’s companions attempted to reach Lowe, but were cut down by Aiden.

“Move move move!” Aiden roared, charging out of the door. The entire square of Varrock was utter chaos, citizens running in horror in every direction, undead ravaging the streets and mauling people without remorse. Some seemed to grasp how to use weapons, and swung anything they could get their hands on. Others lacked that intelligence, and were only capable of the most basic attacks. Caden deflected a sword blow from an undead knight, and Lowe finished it off with a headshot. A frantic man latched onto Aiden, who shoved him into the dirt, where he was instantly attacked by several rotting attackers, who pulled him apart.

An arrow ricocheted off Caden’s armor, and nearly back into the shooter. Lowe noticed the man firing the arrows wasn’t rotting at all, but was entirely human. He returned fire, and struck him in the chest. The archer slouched over dead, why was a human killing other humans? Then it dawned on Lowe, something was missing here... guards, there weren’t any.

“Zaff open up, Zaff it’s Lowe!” he pounded on the door as Aiden and Caden calmly fought off attackers. The door swung open, and Zaff sighed with relief, he covered them with blasts of fire until all three men were inside his relatively small shop.

“It pleases me to see you are all still living.”

“You too, how’s Azura holding up?”

“Not well, she’s a nervous wreck.”

“H-Hey guys...” she whimpered from the corner of the room.

“You’ve killed zombies before, what makes this any different?” Lowe tried to reassure her, it did*’t work well “Well look fellas, we gotta get out of here, so come on Azura let’s see some of that fantastic, explosive group teleporting huh?”

“We tried, there’s a field of negative magic blocking any teleporting in, or out. It’s surrounding the entire city.”

Aiden sounded genuinely surprised “What could even be strong enough to do something like that?” the weathered old man just shrugged.

“Well damn... What about the ‘Barbarian Village’, it’s not far from here, it’s also well defended.” Lowe suggested

“Sounds good,” Zaff stroked his salt and pepper beard “How will we reach it?”

“Running,” Aiden began.

“We’ll run until we’re out of the city, then we’ll continue at a slower pace.” Caden finished

“Uncle Zaff can’t run...” Azura worried.

You’re too old to run, Zaff thought to himself “Hell with that, I’m as young as I want to be.” he declared out loud, he was perfectly capable of keeping up with the group of younger people. “Well killing time won’t help us much, let’s go!” Zaff opened the door, Lowe killed a skeleton with a well placed arrow. The five took off out the door, most of the attackers were too busy murdering people to catch them. Most of them.

Elder listened to the carnage from the Varrock West Bank, the sounds were all very appeasing to him. Two guards leaned down and informed him some people were dangerously close to escaping. Sighing, Elder stood and then began to run. He leapt off the bank and landed in a patch of grass, and then began to chase down the swift group of people so desperately trying to escape.

Several human and ‘normal’ people had began to follow the five as they made their daring escape, and this number soon swelled to almost one hundred adrenaline fueled citizens making a last ditch attempt to escape. The large gate began to slowly close as the undead guards heaved and shoved with their decaying and broken limbs. Elder began running more quickly, he wanted to catch at least some of them. He grabbed a young man, only twenty years of age by the collar and yanked him into the ground. He tripped another woman and then locked on to the most cute voice he had heard all day.

“We’re almost there!” Azura panted. The fastest runners were now free of the city, and the gate was almost closed meaning they did*’t have much time. Zaff and Lowe were the first ones free, Caden right behind them. Aiden helped a man up on his feet, and then continued through. Azura gasped as she felt cold leathery hands wrap around her throat and pull her to the ground. The gate finally shut, trapping another ten of the runners inside the walls. Azura turned around, confused and horrified

“Aren’t you adorable.” the snake in human form hissed. She scrambled for her runestones, but two muscly yet dead men grabbed her arms and tied them behind her, along with the other runners. They were lead back into the square, corpses were being piled by a minotaur and several hooded figures, and the undead inside the walls began wondering idly, or eating the corpses. Dozens if not hundreds of people were being lead to various locations by teams of the undead.

“What’s going on...?” Azura whispered to the man behind her. He had sandy brown hair and a energetic look, he was only twenty.

“God only knows,” he sighed “but I have a feeling we’ll be alright.” he offered her a smile, and she somehow felt better. He lied, from what he could understand some kind of round up was going on before they were executed, or forced into slavery, or any of the other number of nasty things that occur when you find yourself at the mercy of foreign armies.

"Lead this group into the courtyard!" Elder barked, and several masked guards shoved and pulled for them to go in the direction they wanted. Their was some arguing that ultimately ended in one man being stabbed to death on the spot. The rest of the freshly captured prisoners obeyed without question or complaint.
