The rather comical roll that led to a smack into the wall had everything bad negated by the last remnants of the barrier that had been active throughout her escape ordeal. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop the walking stick from giving her a good clonk on the head as it followed her trajectory. That caused her to grab it with one hand while putting the other to her forehead, the place of impact, with an, “
Ow! Dammit!

When she heard the voice, though, she pulled herself into a sitting position, checking everything quickly - although whether she’d even spot if something was really wrong with her at this point was questionable - and then announcing, “
Yep, I’m good! Well, apart from the rather painful smack to the head, but that’ll be fine in a minute or two!

Her confirmation made, Aria took the staff and used it to push herself into a standing position. For a second, she looked like she wasn’t sure what she should be doing, but then it dawned on her and she said, “
Oh, right! Hey, you, guy whose name I don’t know! Any idea where I can find the Sea Drake?

Outside the Tavern

Annie, Octavius, Vanick, Joric, and the rest were all able to make it out through the front, coming to a stop in the streets. A few other taverngoers were standing outside as well, some injured, while curious passerby stopped to see what the commotion was.

Then the guards arrived, wearing gambesons with steel gauntlets, greaves, and kettle helms. They each had a sword at their belt along with a wooden baton. On their chests were badges, marking them as servants as the Earl of Varia. "What is going on?" One of them, a middle-aged woman with a bent nose, demanded sharply.

"A brawl, a brawl in the tavern!" A man told her.

She sighed in frustration, then raised her voice to address everyone who had gathered. "Civilians, stay where you are!" She ordered. Then she looked to one of her men. "You, start taking accounts of what happened. The rest of you, with me - we're going to break up the fight!" And with that, the guards drew their batons and entered the tavern.

Meanwhile, the sole guard who was left outside approached the mercenaries. "So..." he said, looking from Octavius, to Vanick, and then to Annie. "Would any one of you lot care to tell me how this mess started?"

Vanick shrugged. "I didn't see what started it. We were just going about our business, and when the fight started we did our best to get out."

In The Alleyway

"Um..." came Edd's response, trying to find the words. It wasn't everyday you saw somebody fly through a window and then shake it off like nothing. He recognized her as one of the volunteers from the tavern, and he recalled hearing something about magic. "I serve on the Sea Drake," he finally said. "I was just going to take this paladin to the Captain. If you come with us, I'll show you both where the ship is after."

Annie felt really nervous that this guard would realized that she ran away home and think she started the fight. She knew she had to stay calm and said in a calm voice,"I was drinking my drink and buying my own business. Then all of a sudden a fight broke out. I didn't see how the fight start. I almost got punched in the gut but was able to dodge the attack. I escaped from the tavern when the fight began so, I didn't get hurt." Her fist hurt from punching a man in the face to escape the fighting. -Dances-

Edd replied to the mermaid elsewhere. Meanwhile, rowdy bar escaped, Annie slid to a stop, and then she and the others were approached by some guards. A few guards went off to contain the violence, and the heroes were asked of what happened.

After Vanick and Annie replied, Octavius gesticulated with his hands, and perhaps interrupted the girl’s storytelling.

“Oh, I don’t know exactly what happened! I was only enjoying myself. Good drink, good fun, good inn, everyone liked me…” He looked at Joric, then raised an arm to gesticulate someone much taller than himself, “tall, burly man...messy black hair and moustache, he started everything, for some reason! Maybe he mistake me for someone else?”

Oh, you’re part of the crew? That’s perfect!
” Aria exclaimed, wobbling slightly but catching herself by jamming the stick back into the ground and holding on tightly. She was still quite inebriated, though, so her balance came back much more easily than it would have had she been sober. In fact, if she had been, it was quite likely that she would have ended up back on the ground again. Fortunately, she was able to save herself some embarrassment and not have such a fate befall her just yet.

Lifting up the staff and making a flourishing motion with it, she announced, “
Lead on, then! I’m quite ready to embark on such a voyage!

To the paladin, she gave a smile and a wave, the latter being rather enthusiastic since she had never met the man and couldn’t be more than several feet away. Then again, he had probably seen her consuming large amounts of liquor inside, so it wasn’t a mystery why she was acting like she was.

It was almost like a lengthy haze had lifted from the mind of the paladin - as if a couple months worth of time had passed in the blink of an eye, yet nothing in his surroundings supported such an idea. With the brawl in full swing and Edd making a hasty retreat through the back of the tavern Gerion rose from his seat, chuckling fondly at the sights of fight and flight. He picked up his hammer with one hand, clearly having no intention of using it, and raised his free hand - fingers uncurling from a closed fist into an open palm facing upwards, a warming glow of white that fit comfortably in the centre of his palm having manifested.

" Let clearer minds prevail, " He said, voice lost to the sounds filling the tavern, and nudged his hand in the direction of the brawl. The glow left his palm, traveling almost lazily over his table even as he turned away and followed Edd through the back door - pushing it open right in time for the gentle glowing sphere to burst in an explosion of transparent yet shiny mist that expanded rapidly - flowing over the fighters and spreading through the room. The door closed behind the paladin before the effects could be noticed, Gerion noticing the huddled trio of tavern workers and giving them his disarming smile. Nodding his farewell, he placed a few coins on a nearby surface in full view of them as he headed out the back - a small token for their troubles.

Meanwhile, the spell that he had cast would take affect quite quickly. Those exposed to it would find their negative emotions diminishing, and their minds clearing of the haze of anger and violent urges - tranquility magic in one of its less noteworthy forms, that of calming others. Remarkable for calming thrashing patients who needed healing, de-escalating confrontations and letting diplomacy win out. It would not stop an opponent from trying to kill him in the midst of a fight, but for less severe encounters it was a godsend for keeping the peace. Even a tavern brawl could be

calmed, presuming the fighters were not intending on killing one another, of course. Should it work, the brawlers were likely to stop fighting before the guards finished bursting through the door - a far less dangerous environment to handle, and hopefully without causing any more serious injuries or fatalities.

But that mattered little now, he had done what he could and was now out the back - where he found Edd speaking with the very same drunk woman from inside. While only catching the tail-end of their brief talk, it was quite clear that she would be accompanying them. Gerion quirked an eyebrow but chuckled, returning the woman's enthused wave with a more subdued one of his own - alongside the friendly smile that was rarely far from his face.

" Indeed, let's be on our way - I'm sure none of us enjoy enduring the smells of the backstreets for too long, " He said, allowing their plucky guide - Edd - to lead on.

Outside the Tavern

Authoritative shouts were heard from inside the tavern, before the building finally went quiet. The fighting had stopped, it seemed - a combination of magic and the presence of legal authorities.

"So it started when he punched you?" the guard asked Octavius. "We're going to have to bring you in for further questioning, then." When Vanick looked as though he was about to protest, the guard continued. "Shouldn't be too long." He added. "The rest of you can be on your way."

"We'll wait here," was Vanick's response. "There's a man in there who was going to join us."

"Fair enough," the guard said.

The door to the tavern opened, and another man walked out. "Found out anything!?" he called out.

"This man here can identify the one who started it!" the first guard answered, gesturing toward Octavius.

"Bring him in, then!"

So Octavius was brought in. The patrons had been backed against the walls, while unconscious bodies and overturned furniture were strewn about the place. Octavius would immediately recognize the man who attacked him, lying passed out on the ground. He could choose to point him out to the guards if he wished. Other patrons were questioned, who gave their own version of events, but most confirmed the truth.

The man who started the fight was arrested, as was another man who had killed someone - two guards were dispatched to take them to jail. Another guard was dispatched to run to the nearest temple and find a healer for the most grievously wounded. The remainder stayed behind, and kicked the remaining patrons out of the bar, Octavius included.

"Back to the ship, then," Vanick ordered ordered grimly, once Octavius and one of the recruits rejoined him. There was no sign of the blonde mage, so he assumed she ran off.

The Alleyway

"Right, I think it's this way..." Edd told them, leading them out of the alleyway and onto another street.

The walk couldn't have taken longer than five or six minutes. Edd clearly knew the streets, suggesting that he grew up in this town, or had spent enough time in it to make little difference. Every ship bound to or from Daralt stopped here at some point. Occasionally Edd would cast a glance at Aria, and once he looked at Gerion as if he was about to ask another question, but decided against it.

Soon enough they reached the tavern. It was almost identical to the previous one - the only difference, of course, being the name and layout. But the overall size and the furnishings were almost exactly the same.

"A mage and a paladin?" Captain Robert had asked when Edd introduced them, his eyebrows raised in surprise. "I don't believe it. Excellent job, man!" He turned toward Gerion and Aria, and shook their hands. "I don't suppose either of you have any questions? Otherwise Edd here can show you to the ship."
