There was even less of a chance when it vanished after half a second of existence, leaving only a faint glow in the air around the soldiers.
What it was for, though, was apparent pretty quickly. Of all the incoming fire, only the rifle shot seemed to have significant impact. With the superior power of the shot, it punched through the arm of the soldier, leaving a burst of light and a splatter of blood behind. It also caused yet another soldier to stop what they were doing to try and deal with the fact that they'd just been hit, which meant there was only one still holding the arm of their prisoner.
As for all the other shots, they made varying amounts of impact. Annie's wildly fired bullets missed all but one, which struck the upper arm of the soldier with the knife through their wrist. It did not, however, seem to do anything, dissipating in a burst of light similar to what had been caused when the rifle shot had struck. By the same nature, the spread of the shotgun caused several bursts of light, but only seemed to cause minor discomfort, as no significant wounds seemed to be inflicted. The plate did even worse, simply bouncing off who it had struck and breaking on the floor. The revolvers, surprisingly, had the least impact. Both went for the leader, who, as he had been firing, had pulled his weapon from where it was held and brought it up, deflecting one of the incoming shots. The other struck, but it seemed that whatever he had done was more effective on him than anyone else as it had a similar effect as Annie's shot.
Their captive looked...well, uncomfortable to say the least. It was rather ironic that the shielding effect from the leader had taken her into account as well, or one of the various wide shots that had not hit a soldier would have almost certainly struck her.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
