Adam woke up feeling groggy and disoriented. He heard a voice call out to him.
“Adam? Adam!?”
Adam thought to himself, “Who…is that? It sounds familiar.”
“Wake up you idiot!”
“John!?” Adam yelled, this time aloud, his eyes jerking open.
John was there in front of Adam, being held back by two guards with spears that were hovering in the air, their dark, vein-riddled wings flapping quickly to keep them a foot off the ground. They were both very pale white, and wearing tight black suits that had big collars going up to their ears.
Another vampire, this one looking very much like a man, stood behind John, a wide smile on his face as John struggled to get loose. His only defining features as a vampire were his pale skin, pointed ears, and fangs. His eyes held an unnatural radiance, the green irises were thinner than a normal human, and they made him look almost feral. The vampire was wearing a crown on his head.
Adam felt something itchy on his neck and tried to reach up to scratch at it, his hands were bound behind his back and he could hardly move them an inch. He looked down; there was a trapdoor directly below him. He looked up; a rope was hanging down from a wooden beam toward his head. With dread Adam realized that he was on a gallows, about to be executed. Adam glanced to his side, Rachel was standing there, unconscious, held up only by the rope around her neck.
“Let her go!” Adam screamed to no one in particular.
The vampire behind John simply smirked, an evil smirk that Adam could tell hid something very sinister. He opened his thin lips to speak, “The girl first.”
Adam’s eyes went wide and his spine became rigid, he panicked, “No! Don’t kill her please! Kill me, just let her live…”

Tears were streaming down Adam’s face, John barely knew Adam but he did know that Adam was not the type who would cry easily. John was hit by a realization like a falling boulder. Rachel was more than just Adam’s friend, he loved her. John did*’t have time to think about it any further at the moment though. A gust of wind entered into the dark execution chamber in the basement of the castle and the candles flickered violently. Then, almost as if it had been on cue, a loud clunk echoed across the halls of the castle as the release lever of Rachel’s trapdoor was pulled.
Rachel was light enough though so that she just hung there, the air slowly being cut off from her brain. Her eyes were completely open at this point and she was grabbing at the rope, trying to get herself down and breathe again.
“Adam? Say something Adam,” John pleaded, Adam was silently staring at his feet, tears striking the wood on his gallows. Suddenly the drops stopped, and the air in the room heated rapidly. John looked up at Adam, his skin was turning a fiery red.
“Let…her…GO!!!”
The gallows around Adam splintered and was then vaporized; the rope was burned to ash. Suddenly the rope that was hanging Rachel caught fire and began to burn as well. Adam’s looked at John’s Father, fierce rage in his now completely blue eyes. Adam sprinted forward with incredible speed and grabbed each of John’s captors by the head. Fire leapt from his skin and flared up beneath his feet, the two helpless guards screamed into Adam’s palms as their faces began to boil. Adam smiled a, very demonic grin adorned his face ear to ear, showing off some pointed teeth. John was paralyzed in fear.

Adam brought his hands together as if trying to clap and the heads of both of the vampires were smashed into powder, leaving their bodies to fall limply to the floor. Adam swung his fist down at Lord Drakan, with all intent to kill. He caught Adam’s fist as it came down, the skin sizzling as it touched Adam’s fiery flesh. He smiled as he brought his fist forward and slammed it into Adam’s stomach. The beast that once was Adam coughed up some blood and fell to its knees, clutching its abdomen.
Blood poured through a gaping hole in Adam’s chest, falling just short of his spine, the hole closed in an instant and Adam snatched a surprised Lord Drakan from where he stood. Lord Drakan caught fire as Adam grabbed him, his flesh beginning to peel off. The regal vampire screamed as he began to burn to death. His cries were cut short when Adam slammed him into the ground headfirst, burying his skull in the stones.
Rachel’s rope had burned all the way through and she had fallen to the ground, her lips were blue but her fingers were still twitching. John rushed over to her and shook her, he did*’t know any medical techniques, he was trained to end lives, not save them.
Adam’s eyes ceased to glow blue as Lord Drakan lay dead, the surprised expression on his shattered face buried in the ground beneath the castle. Adam collapsed to his knees once more, his skin returning again to its fair tan color. The heat in the room disappeared as Adam lay face down on the cold stones with a contented smile on his face. John could feel Adam’s strong pulse from where he was, he was fine.
John did*’t know what to do though, Rachel’s pulse was fading, his vampire senses alerting him as her heartbeat slowed. Adam was an adventurer, he probably knew how to help her, but he was out cold. John rushed over to Adam’s side and shook him.
“Adam! Get up! I need your help, I don’t know the first thing about how to do this. You need to save her! Adam! Adam!?”
