Rupinasu's ears twitched when Desdemona and Asterion tried to yell over one another. He turned his head as the goblin waddled in and requested milk.

Well, Rupinasu had chosen to wait outside, seeing as his incredibly long legs and immensity would be better in the spaciousness of outside. He rotated via scuttling then sat cross-legged. "I says, so I sits."

"Whatcha got?" Cia piped up, peering around at the flagon that he'd just pulled from under the bar. It wasn't that she hadn't heard their leader's refusals, but she really didn't care if he had poisoned it. That would be simple enough to tell just from the taste, and then she could just tell everyone and it would work out easily. She wasn't in any danger, after all, not from any poison. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Ryle pulled on a huge, hanging, twisted rope, wiry strands unravelling in charred frays. An old ship's rope repurposed for a publican booby trap.

A dangling cast iron chandelier, blessed by the landlord's wife who double timed as a witch who boiled neighbourhead pets into petrified charms and cast spells of invulnerability and personality, dropped like a ton of melodramatic bricks.

"Whoosh!" the now living creature shrieked, trembling as the chain rattled and slid downwards and the chandelier crashed over Cia, locks slamming into place.

"I'm so sorry!" cried the creaking iron struts, tarnished with plaster, and now puffs of the young woman's hair.

Ryle flourished his hands and danced up on to a table, sending flagons of cheap ale flying everywhere. He tore the rope off the chain, and pulled it, seeing how the new cage reacted, like a locked room to which the powers of Inferi's character did not apply.

Tragically, it seemed he had plotted against a random dame who merely resembled Cia, for Ryle was most certainly in the wrong building. While masquerading as a fine establishment, The Chicory Wolf boasted no chandelier, and the landlord himself was Asterion, who was a known womanizer with no current wife. A shame really, for Cia's look-alike was certainly not blessed with the same curse that prevented bodily harm. In fact, the impact of a chandelier over her head was enough to put her in critical condition from which she'd be unlikely to recover without immediate aid from top healing magics. Soon would come the pub bouncers and private security, and surely before long the local army chapter would come around.

“We don’t serve milk, my little darling.” Asterion grinned at Kalo the goblin. “Right now I’m cleared out of everything except for this week’s luscious wine. It’s a special brew, made with care from a new vineyard with all the utmost best methods of the modern era. Like drinking a fine painting – it truly creates a landscape on the tongue.” Ever the salesman.

With a smooth motion the barman swept three tankards across the bar and poured them full from his flagon just as smoothly. He then juggled the empty bottle a few times before whisking it into some unseen bin. Now presenting the three drinks to Kalo, Connor, and Cia, he urged them “Drink up, it’s like nothing you’ve ever tasted!”

He parted his attention equally to the three with a scandalous gleam in his beautiful eyes, now completely disregarding Desdemona.

“I wouldn’t do that.” said the aforementioned vampire, looking to her three companions. “Remember what we came here for.” While escaping the grasp of a curse or hex was no fear of Desdemona’s, she wasn’t keen on losing three fighters to whatever disgusting spell this wine might put on them. The last thing she needed was for her own men to be addicted to the enemy’s product.

Meanwhile, two of the six mercenaries in the crowd used this opportunity to inch closer to the group at the bar. The remaining four watched intently, no doubt prepared to act at a second’s grace.

~~~oOo~~~
Outside the bar, things seemed calm. Boring, even. The humdrum crowd of the midmorning city continued to bustle by the road. The smell of all too many horses was already all too present, sure to only set in further as the sun baked the busy roads of the middle-class district.
The day was mostly still, as the slight breeze found its self deflected by the maze of structures surrounding the neighborhood. Gideus would be the only member of the group to really notice the slight wind, thanks to his elevated position. He would also likely be the only one able to notice a slight change in the wind, and the slightest sound of slightly beating wings.
Suddenly what appeared to be a large bird darted out from the east, making a pass directly for the gnome sentry. It soared on coarse to just graze the top of his head unless he moved out of the way. Though in passing he’d get enough of a glance to realize that it was no ordinary bird…
In fact it was a tiny black dragon, ridden by an even tinier fae woman in full combat equipment. A recognizable figure that could only mean-
Cain clapped his hand onto Dalton’s shoulder, having casually approached from out of the crowd. He stood a towering height, covered in an armor that was half barbaric and half militia. The massive warclub on his back carried as much reputation as the man himself. He was indeed Cain – leader of his own mercenary group, and long-time rival of Desdemona herself.
“Dalton, m’boy! What’s got you lot on this side’o town? Where’s the big lady?” He spoke in a bearish voice. Even in such a friendly tone he was utterly terrifying, and all would recognize his strength. He was renowned for his ability to crush an ordinary man’s skull with just the clench of his hand.
That same hand was now clasped over Dalton’s shoulder, not harming him, but rendering him completely defenseless and immobile.
“I can’t believe she passed by us earlier without a greeting!” Cain mused merrily.
Meanwhile, three of his thugs stepped forward into the small yard of the pub, looking up and down the group that was assembled there. The first was Chorak the gladiator, who was known for his net and spear techniques. The second was Cindal, the swordfighter known for being ferocious beyond the durability of her ever-recycled weapons. The last was Click, who’s eccentric collection of pseudo-weaponry made him a very confusing foe indeed. Each member was as tried and tested as Desdemona’s own crew, and their presence here was not a good sign.
“What an adorable puppy.” Cindal said condescendingly, walking toward Rupinasu.
Chorak approached Dionysus with a haughty grin. “I see you’re still using your old barbaric methods, Nys.”
Click looked around, but found no other members of the group. He finally spotted Annie, whom he’d not recognized as one of Desdemona’s. Perhaps she was new? “Little girl...” Click said to her. “What brings you to this place? You ought to run along so the adults can speak.”
Meanwhile, the little dragon circled around Gideus once more, clearly making an effort to agitate him nonviolently. “I FUCKING HATE GNOMES!” the pixie rider yelled in her comically squeaky voice. This one was Kinki, the well-known second to Cain who also happened to have it out for most races. Though small, she was quite fearsome.
Annie listened to the conversations around her. She felt very comfortable with this group. Then she heard from on of the members called her little girl. She responded,” I am not a little girl, I am 15 years old. My name is Annie. I am here to help you fight and have a great adventure.” -Dances-
Rupinasu looked up at the strange bird--not having eyes as good as humans, he did not realize it was in fact a dragon-riding pixie of utmost ferocity and horror.
Meanwhile, Dalton was greeted by someone else, though Rupinasu didn’t seem to care.
A woman’s voice filled Rupinasu’s ears. He flicked his tail. At first, he turned his head, tongue hanging out, eyes big and bright, face eager. But, despite poorer eyesight than humans, canines can read faces better than people--his expression dropped and he returned to his stoic demeanor.
Hopped onto his feet, the Okami kept his knees bent though was still quite tall. Up above, the pixie squeaked her hatred of gnomes--Rupinasu’s ears twitched though he kept an unblinking gaze locked upon the swordswoman...
