That same hand was now clasped over Dalton’s shoulder, not harming him, but rendering him completely defenseless and immobile.
“I can’t believe she passed by us earlier without a greeting!” Cain mused merrily.
Meanwhile, three of his thugs stepped forward into the small yard of the pub, looking up and down the group that was assembled there. The first was Chorak the gladiator, who was known for his net and spear techniques. The second was Cindal, the swordfighter known for being ferocious beyond the durability of her ever-recycled weapons. The last was Click, who’s eccentric collection of pseudo-weaponry made him a very confusing foe indeed. Each member was as tried and tested as Desdemona’s own crew, and their presence here was not a good sign.
“What an adorable puppy.” Cindal said condescendingly, walking toward Rupinasu.
Chorak approached Dionysus with a haughty grin. “I see you’re still using your old barbaric methods, Nys.”
Click looked around, but found no other members of the group. He finally spotted Annie, whom he’d not recognized as one of Desdemona’s. Perhaps she was new? “Little girl...” Click said to her. “What brings you to this place? You ought to run along so the adults can speak.”
Meanwhile, the little dragon circled around Gideus once more, clearly making an effort to agitate him nonviolently. “I FUCKING HATE GNOMES!” the pixie rider yelled in her comically squeaky voice. This one was Kinki, the well-known second to Cain who also happened to have it out for most races. Though small, she was quite fearsome.
