Anais uncrossed her legs as he invited her over to the couch, conscious of the fact that normally, she wouldn't have even followed him to his room in the first place. ~Must be the dog,~ she mused, her inner voice chuckling to itself as she took a seat and leaned back against the cushions.

"Well," she began, sighing softly, "my first year, I had a Destruction class based primarily in fire manipulation." Anais shrugged, lifting her hand slightly and wiggling the long digits. "That's why I'm here. I consider it my... specialty, if you will." She smirked, then continued. "We were working on simply knocking over a target from approximately fifty yards and I simply couldn't hit the target. I kept hitting just to the side. My professor at the time took me by the shoulders and straight up told me that concentration is key for the first time... that kind of cliche advice for new kids." She rolled her eyes.

"Eventually, I was able to hit the target. Within a few weeks, we moved on to more touchy targets and barriers. Our final exam was to hit a target that was in the middle of a shelf with other liquids in jars. The target looked like every other one, but it would be the only one that would not ignite upon impact." Anais looked over to Christian. "If you can see where I'm going with this... I didn't exactly hit the target. I hit every. Single. Jar. All because the light bouncing off one of the jars distracted me at the last second."

Anais looked back down, her water bottle between her knees. She tapped at the cap absently as she finished, "I sent a girl to the infirmary, and my professor never stopped telling me about 'concentration is key'. He's still my professor to this day, and he doesn't let me forget it. The exercise was to teach us about concentrating on the damage we cause to our target without causing damage to others - mostly friendlies - that could cost us in the long run." She grimaced, twisting the cap off and taking a sip of her drink.

A puzzled look came over Christian's face, "All the other jars besides one would ignite...that sounds like a relatively terrible idea!" He said, a small smile twitching the ends of his lips. ~Diffuse the situation, she looks a little tense...* He told himself.

Cracking the lid open off the water once more, he gulped down a some of the liquid, before pouring a small amount in his hand; manipulating it slightly to just form a small stream that danced in the air; bending ever so slightly. "I mean, when I found out about my powers...it was because I shattered a guy's bones from his fingers to his elbow..." He said, "So; ya know...he went to the hospital too...if it makes you feel any better." He said, a sympathetic smile on his face as he glanced over at Anais.

The stream of water had morphed into a sphere, bobbing up and down. And with a flick of Christian's wrist, the entire thing dissipated into water vapor, the mist hanging in the air, glinting as the light hit it.

((I mean, really it's a college age RP so, 18-23ish. But I can make reasonable exceptions.))

((I mean, provided you have a reasonable age of like no less that 14-15, I can make an exception; provided they were "gifted" but the title is University and the campus map, etc. is set up like a University would be.))

((When I see "university", I think of anything between 17-25, which is one extra year than what the usual demographic is in the United States. Just my thought. If it was "high school" or "academy", I might see where a child would be allowed, but in a college environment... that usually indicates more rigorous study. I dunno, I'm just in this thread. I don't make the rules, lol.))

Anais listened quietly as she watched the water morph and twist in his hand, leaning instinctively away. Water had never been her strong suit, as she had always favored the warmth of the flames. She could manipulate it, but it was a rough understanding of the concept. Fire, however... she could do some amazing things with it. Three years after the incident in the classroom, she had gained much control over her favored element.

"I found out about mine as simply as most children do with any talent. All at once," Anais stated as his plaything disappeared into a fine mist that clung to the air. Reaching her hand out from her body to the side opposite Christian and out of the moisture's reach as she spoke, Anais held her hand palm-up, feeling the warmth gather toward the center. As it began to peak, she felt the twisting begin. That feeling... it was insanely delicious.

As Anais finished her sentence, a flame grew from the center of her palm, dancing freely as she brought her gaze to Christian. "For me, this is the easiest. Creating it, I mean... it's almost as if it's an extension of my own body." Shrugging, Anais closed her palm and effectively cut short the flame's life. "I found out about mine at a young age. Nothing tragic, just a couple of strange house fires and random arsons that no one could really prove." She smirked slightly, then added, "Not that I did it on purpose."

((That was my thinking, but I'd make a reasonable exception as long as it wasn't anything like a 7 year old or something like that. lol))

Christian smiled, as he wiped his hand dry of the water on Bear's fur. The dog looked at him momentarily before laying his head back on the man's lap. Water had always been almost a home for him, he knew how to swim from basically the time he could walk, and had he not been a football and basketball star...and a bulky 255 pounds; he would've loved to swim competitively. "Well, too bad we hadn't met sooner...I could've put those fires out." He joked, watching the flames.

"I'm decent at other elements, but water is definitely my strong suit...but I've also been in water since basically birth.." He said, as the flame glinted in his brown eyes.

Anais lowered her hand, the warmth leaving her palm. She did not respond to his comment about meeting earlier; her thoughts had been farther away than just a few feet. She had heard, however, his comment about being in water since "basically" birth. Her golden eyes went to her hands, dwelling on that statement.

Anais herself had been born in the middle of summer on the hottest day of the year. Her mother's constant comment to her was that she was a child of fire, of destruction and wrath beyond all measure. Water, the cool, calm, life-giving force, was the antithesis to her life. Where Christian had lived in water, figuratively speaking, for most of his life, she had bathed in flames for longer.

Abruptly, Anais stood, glancing back at Christian on the couch. "I'm sorry, but I just realized that I forgot that I left something in the bathroom on when I left," she said, grimacing as she held her bottle of water in her hand. She managed a brief grin as she added, "Thank you for the water, and it was nice meeting you." Anais nodded at the end of her statement, then turned and strode from the room, leaving behind nothing but the indent on the couch where she had been sitting, still overly warm to the touch.

Name: Thea Pickard
Gender: Female
Age: 20
School year: 3
School(s) of Magic: Conjuration

Personality: Thea is somewhat shy, suffering from small bouts of social anxiety, but getting past that is incredibly friendly and bubbly. Thea is dependable, and willing to go beyond the norm in order to please her friends. She is dedicated, but also tends to get stressed about the littlest things, and can on occasion blow issues well out of proportion. There is a delicacy about her- Thea can be fragile at times, uncertain, but she will always try to be her best and to help others.

Thea tries not to be judgemental, and tries to be as inclusive to everyone as she can. She is the sort of person who would feel comfortable walking up to a complete stranger if she felt like they were lonely, but does not feel comfortable in crowds. Thea is a friend to everyone, especially animals, so much so that bringing an animal to her is basically asking for her to ignore you in favour of your pet.

Physical Appearance: Thea is very pale, a trait that makes her dark-brown eyes seem to pop in her face. Her hair is also brown, though not so dark as her eyes, which often fall about in curls about her shoulders with her fringe tucked off to one side, though the potential for her hair style to change throughout the year is always there. She has a small nose, a shy smile, and a somewhat well-defined jaw line, which could be perceived as mannish by some.

Thea is just above the average height for a female at five foot five. She isn't someone that looks obviously skinny, but there is no doubt that she isn't overweight- merely lingering in that in-between stage of averageness, (though Thea would describe her body type as 'frumpish.')

Between her collarbones on her back there is a very large tattoo of a dream-catcher.

Attire: Thea is a big fan of layers. Her casual ensemble is that of a tank top, over which is a cardigan, with a short skirt and black tights. She can often be found wearing some shirt depicting some form of nerd culture, of which Thea would consider herself knowledgeable within. She is a big fan of leggings which she'll wear about the house, but would only go out in public in with her large, green parka over the top, to hide their somewhat see-through nature. She isn't often a fan of jewellery or accessories, but may sport them on the off-chance that there is a large occasion. Even rarer is the idea of her wearing a dress, if it were ever to happen, it would be body-tight.

History: Thea's parents are divorced, and she suffers from the unfortunate circumstance of having inherited the traits which each of her parents despise in one-another, and so although loved by both, she has a very volatile relationship with them, often moving from one house to the other depending on which had fallen out with her in that given month. A late bloomer, she had her first boyfriend at eighteen, and having ended roughly, has a lot of resentment for that time- perhaps an unjust amount.

Pet: A light-grey rat named Winston.

Other: Thea swings both ways

((Accepted, please post an intro!))

Christian stared off as she got up from the couch and made her way, somewhat quickly, out of the room. "Was it something I said?" He asked, scratching one of Bear's floppy ears. He slowly got up off the couch, wiping the dog hair and drool off his shorts; shooting Bear a quick glare, "Really Bear? I was planning on wearing these again." He groaned, walking towards his bedroom; briefly pausing to toss the empty water bottle across the room and into the trash.

~Swish.~ He, once again, said in his head.

He peeled off his shirt and shorts, standing in a pair of Calvin Klein briefs, before he opened a drawer in the dresser that sat on the left side of the room. He grabbed another pair of athletic shorts, along with a long sleeved dry-fit Nike tee and a pair of socks, tossing them into a bag. Pulling on a pair of board shorts and a hooded sweatshirt; he grabbed the drawstring bag, slipped on a pair of Nike crosstrainers and headed to the gym that was located underneath the entire Res Hall.
