"Then I wish you good fortune," the Sage said. "Let the mighty sun guide you in light, and may you never waver on the path to fall into the jaws of darkness."
"Thank you, Sage," Saren said, his head bowed respectfully. He turned and faced the exit of the cave. "Let's go."
Kaisen and Kalda thanked the Sage for everything and followed Saren out of the cave. Looking over the side of the peak, they could see the jagged mountains on the horizon that not long before had been their prison. Then, on those rocky mountains, Kalda noticed something bad.
"Look!" she exclaimed. On the mountains of the trolls, coming toward the valley at the base of Mount Trollweiss, was a sweeping black mass. It looked solid, like an unbroken blanket of shadow, but upon closer inspection, Kaisen figured out what it was.
"Black knights," he mouthed in awe. "Thousands of them."
"This is not good," Saren said through clenched teeth. "This means that Agaben is closing in. We need to leave fast, or else the Sage'* existance will be revealed."
"But we can't leave by going back the way we came," Kalda protested. "The army will see us, and they will trace us back here anyway."
The Sage coughed, alerting them that he was behind them. "I have an idea, but it is risky."
"Go on."
"Beneath this mountain is a long system of tunnels that will lead you directly to the underground dwarven city of Keldagrim. The problem is, there is something... evil down there. It's a beast that devours anything that enters its domain. That cave, however, is the only other way to leave this mountain undetected. It's your call whether to take the risk or not."
What else could they say? "Show us the cave," Saren said with confidence.
