On the skyline was the huge, looming landform of Ice Mountain. It was tall and, of course, icy. However, it was not as large as Trollweiss. On the top of the mountain sat a tall white marble watchtower.

"What's that?" Kaisen asked. "I don't remember that being on the map."

"It's a safety watchtower," Saren explained. "It was set up by the White Knights to guard our northern front from attacks from the Black Knights' Fortress and the Wilderness. It is relatively new."

Kaisen could see White Knights patrolling on the battlements, keeping guard. Kaisen could only imagine the troubles throughout all of Asgarnia from the threat of invasion by Zamorakans.

Suddenly, Kaisen was struck with pain from the dragon egg. He used fire magic to appease it, but he said, "The cold spells are getting worse."

Saren showed a grim expression. "I hope we can finish this quest before they completely kill you."

For the first time in a long while, the path that Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda took was frequently traveled. The road that went southwest was a dirt path that wound across a high plateau and through an evergreen forest. The world in Asgarnia looked hospitable and peaceful, and it was far superior to the Wilderness, Morytania, and the Troll Mountains combined.

Travelers became less scarce, and Saren began to look in better spirits. Being home was good for him. "I remember this forest," he said. "We are close to Falador." Sure enough, a large signpost and statue soon appeared. The road winded south, and soon the white marble walls of Falador appeared on the horizon.

The city was in front of them. The tall wall of white marble towered over the surrounding plains. Saren's eyes glowed as they approached. He was home.

The travelers walked through the enormous northern gate and into the city. They entered a large square, in the middle of which stood a tall statue of an old, powerful man. It was Saradomin, or at least how the White Knights pictured him. Speaking of the White Knights, across the square sat a large castle in which their leader, Sir Amik Varze, resided. Saren pointed ahead. "We don't have to stay here long, just long enough to rest ourselves. We've been out in the wilderness for so long, we deserve some time."

Kaisen and Kalda agreed wholeheartedly. They wanted some rest time anyway.

For the next couple of days, Kaisen and Kalda were shown around the city of Falador by Saren, who knew it well. On the third day, Saren led them to the castle. "My superiors want me to report on the dragon," Saren explained. "I brought you along because I'm sure they will want to meet you."

Kaisen agreed, and he entered the White Knight headquarters.

Saren led Kaisen through the halls to the central room on the highest floor. In this room was several people, each of them dressed in dazzling white armor. One was Sir Tiffy Cashien, and the other was the leader of the Temple Knights, Sir Amik Varze.

"Sir," Saren said, bowing with respect.

"Rise, Sir Saren," Amik Varze replied. "It is good to have you back. Please report on your mission."

Saren said, "I have been ordered to guard the egg of the sacred silver dragon. I have done so. I went to Morytania as you commanded, but the egg had already left Andarra's possession. Instead, this mage, Kaisen, had already accepted the burden of carrying it. We set out to find a way to dispel the curse on the egg, and our travels brought us to the Wilderness. We discovered a mage that can relieve the dragon of its burden on Mount Trollweiss, and now we are traveling to collect the necessary materials."

"Thank you for your report, and congratulations on performing your mission so well. We are indebted to you for your sacrifice."
Saren thanked them, and then he asked, "Why are there so many White Knights training outside?" Out in the courtyard, there were large numbers of White Knights learning to fight.
Sir Amik Varze's face became dark. "I'm afraid that the peace that has reigned over Asgarnia for so long is no more. Lord Agaben has announced total invasion, and he as assembled legions of demons and Black Knights to fight us. We will need every able man to retaliate."
Sir Tiffy Cashien piped in, "We mean that you have brought the mage into safety, and would like it if you would fight with us."
Saren looked at his bosses. "With all due respect, it is my job to protect the dragon egg, and therefore I will travel with Kaisen and Kalda."
Amik Varze smiled. "You have dedication. Very well, may Saradomin bless your efforts. Do not worry about us, as the Gaze of Saradomin will bless us in battle, and we will prevail again the evil of Zamorak, as it is meant to be."

The morning later, after Saren's meeting with Sir Amik Varze, as the proud city of Falador was only just awakening to the bright morning sun, Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda stood at the south gate of the city. They were joined by Sir Amik Varze, who was waving them farewell.

He turned to Saren. "I know that we have high hopes that Saradomin will prevail in this battle," he whispered glumly, "but I believe that it is not likely. The only hope that in the end we will be victorious...," he pointed at Kaisen, "...is that dragon egg. Guard it with your life, for it may very well be the key to defeating Zamorak."

Saren replied, "With all due respect, sir, I have heard this a million times before."

Amik Varze's gaze was unwavering. "I know, but times are changing. Agaben is no longer lurking around in the Wilderness. He is on the offensive. Do not let your guard down, if even for a moment."

"I realize that, and yes, sir, I promise on my honor that I will return with a cured dragon. And it will not be only my doing, but that of Kaisen and Kalda as well. Together, we will ensure that the dragon lives."

-----Chapter Four: The Captain's Oath-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saren led Kaisen and Kalda south out of Falador. As the city of the White Knights faded into the horizon behind them, Saren turned and took one last look at the precious city. "It's hard to believe that it might not be here when we come back," Saren said glumly.

"Don't talk like that," Kaisen replied. "I know we have our religious affiliations, but both of our gods are in favor of Falador. To you, the Gaze of Saradomin watches over it, and to me, the balance of good and evil must remain intact. Asgarnia is a stronghold of Saradomin, and if it were destroyed, the balance would be broken. Guthix would not let that happen."

Saren scoffed. "That whole balance thing is good in theory, but Guthix hasn't been doing a good job. Good and evil have never been completely balanced. Throughout history, dominance has shifted from one side to another in an endless cycle."

Kaisen smiled back. "But, in the end, it is balanced. Good and evil just alternate dominance." He looked down at the dragon egg. "This dragon is the key to shift power back to Saradomin, and keep the balance Guthix has kept."

Saren remained silent at this. He was mostly good at fighting, but battles of words were not his strong point.

Kalda gazed skyward. "Look up there!" she exclaimed. Dark clouds were rolling in from the south. "It looks like a storm."

"That's what it is," Saren explained. "We're almost in Port Sarim, the largest port city in Asgarnia. Down here at the ocean, storms are frequent. Especially since the Domhar started wreaking havoc." At Kaisen and Kalda's puzzled faces, he added, "The Domhar is a group of Zamorakan mages from the south who came north to attack Asgarnia. They can't yet stand up to the White Knights, however, so they've settled for simply conjuring storms and demolishing ships coming in. They are led by Solus Dellagar, a very powerful mage."

"We'll take our chances," Kaisen replied, "because we too have a powerful mage."

Kalda smiled. "Oh? And who's that?"

I will spare you the complaints voiced by Kaisen at this point. I will just mention that they involved several sarcastic comments and one statement about having to carry around a dragon egg. Nothing important.
