The stranger, Iban, seemed consumed in his own world, no doubt a world of darkness. Iban looked around, his ears perked up, as if he was hearing something. Then, his eyes came to rest on the corner behind which Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda hid.

Suddenly, a loud voice came from behind them, shouting, "Lord Iban, they are over here!"

The three travelers turned their heads abruptly to see where the call was coming from, and they noticed that the source was a dwarf member of the Black Guard of Keldagrim. The dwarf looked ordinary, except his eyes were glaring red. Then, the glow ceased, and the dwarf slumped to the ground. The realization hit Saren hard. "The dwarf was possessed!" he yelled in panic. From around the corner, Iban swaggered closer to Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda, drawing his dragon longsword as he approached.

"Stand back!" Saren warned. He drew his whip and faced off with Iban. The Black Knight leered at Saren, and he struck out with the dragon longsword, but Saren dodged. Kaisen and Kalda huddled back against the wall to stay out of the way. Kaisen shuddered. He could feel a dark aura emanating from Iban.

Saren flicked the whip, but Iban held it away with his longsword. Neither combatant was making much progress in defeating his foe. The battle wore on in the Consortium.

Kaisen finally rose to his feet. "This is going nowhere," he commented on the fight. "We have to do something."

Kalda shook her head. "Remember last time? You almost killed yourself trying to help Saren."

"Then what are we supposed to do?"

"Nothing! Saren is a Temple Knight, he can take care of himself."

Kaisen grimaced. "Not against Iban," he argued fearfully.

Back in the battle, Iban scoffed at Saren's fighting skills. "I have lost interest," Iban cackled. "Time to end this little show." Energy flooded into the dragon longsword, and Iban slashed at Saren with the longsword powered up.

The red blade sliced through the air, but Saren, even though he was too stunned to fight back, was suddenly jerked backwards, out of the trajectory of the swing. Closer inspection would reveal a dwarf girl named Kalda pulling him away from a powerful strike that could have resulted in his death.

While Kalda saved Saren, Kaisen dug furiously into his pouch of runes to find something of use. Then, he noticed a rune with a green symbol on it: a nature rune! An idea popped into his head, and he immediately put it into action.

"Duck!" he shouted to his friends. Kalda and Saren got low to the ground, but, to his misfortune, Iban did not. Kaisen blasted a spell across the Consortium, and the magic connected with Iban, sending him spiraling back to the ground. He tried to rise and retaliate, but he was unable to do so. He was bound in place.

"Let's get out of here!" Kaisen shouted. "The bind is only temporary." Kalda and Saren got to their feet, and they escaped the Consortium and Iban'* clutches.

Far enough away from the killer, the travelers stopped to rest. It was then that Saren spat, "I could have defeated him on my own."

Kaisen's rage boiled in his veins. Kalda could not stop him from what he did. "No you couldn't," he shot back at Saren. "You needed us, just like we need you."

Saren looked stunned that Kaisen was saying this. Kaisen continued, "We all have a role to play, and the main objective is not our honor, it is staying alive to ensure a future for the silver dragon!"

"I know you think you are a great warrior, but we all have to pitch in, and Kalda and I could not watch you die in stubbornness."

Saren was speechless. Then, he replied, "I hate to admit it, but you are absolutely right. You are the holder of the dragon egg, and it is my job to protect you, not fight for honor. Iban is not superior to me, however. This time I will respect your wishes and flee from him, but next time, please respect my wishes to end his evil for good."

Kaisen agreed wholeheartedly. It was not like Saren would have to fight Iban again soon, would he?

Kalda led Saren and Kaisen through the hidden tunnels of Keldagrim, trying to distance them from Iban. Finally, she led them back into the city, although on a raised area, so they could see down.

Kalda screamed, and Kaisen and Saren looked over the cliff. Down in the city of Keldagrim, an army of Black Knights marched upon the dwarven capital. The very same army that had toppled Trollheim was now attacking the dwarves, continuing the path of destruction left in its wake. "What are we going to do?" Kalda asked in desperation. "The dwarves will be killed!"

Saren shook his head. "As you two said earlier, our mission is the protection of the dragon egg. We cannot risk its safety for anyone, even the dwarves."

Kalda fought back. "We have to do something."

Saren scowled, and he moved over to the cliffside. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a holy symbol of Saradomin. "May Saradomin bless all dwarves on this battlefield today, and may they all be protected from the murderous grip of Zamorak's darkness. Protect them Lord Saradomin, and overlook them with your Gaze."

Saren looked back at them. "My prayer has been completely extinguished for their sake, so we will have to tread carefully. Let's go, for Iban will surely sense the powerful prayer I put on the battlefield."

"What will happen?" Kaisen asked.

"To an extent, all the dwarves will have resistance to melee forms of combat. The damage the Black Knights can wreak with their swords will be incredibly lessened, and with Keldagrim's Black Guard, the dwarves might have a fighting chance."

Kalda thanked Saren. The Knight had shown that he did care somewhat about her people. "So how are we going to get out of this city?" Kaisen asked her.
The dwarf girl responded, "There is a tunnel that leads out into the Fremminik Province, but I know a much better way. We dwarves have a large system of mine carts. They would take us way south, far away from Keldagrim."
"South?" repeated Saren. "Is this the tunnel that connects with Ice Mountian in Asgarnia?"
"Yes, I think so."
"Sounds like a plan," Kaisen said cheerfully, and even Saren grunted his approval. Asgarnia was the world of Saradomin. They would be safer there than anywhere else.
Kalda led them to the cart station, and they boarded a cart that was going to the dwarven mines under Ice Mountain, and they rode along, preparing to set foot in Asgarnia.

--------Chapter Three: Asgarnia-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The mine cart traveled a long trek through the dwarves' underground system of tunnels. The mine cart traveled under the mountain of Trollheim, and it looped underneath the city of Burthrope. From there, it made a curve through the forests north of Falador and under the Ice Mountain, where Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda disembarked.

"This is a dwarven outpost," Kalda explained. "It's mostly for mining purposes. The ores mined here are transported to Keldagrim via mine cart to be smithed or sold."

The travelers walked out of the caves, noticing dwarves hard at work mining nearby. The dwarves were diligent workers, and they paid no notice to the two humans and dwarf walking among them. Then, they left the mines and got a look at Asgarnia.
