------Chapter Seven: Agaben's Approach---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The volcano faded away behind them. Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda walked away to the west, toward the city of Brimhaven, where Captain Barnaby was waiting for them.

Saren was absorbed in his thoughts. Kaisen knew that he was worried about Falador; he had been concerned about its fate since they left it. The truth was that Kaisen was afraid of Agaben's forces as well, and that Saren's rivalry with Iban might come back to haunt them someday.

"The city of Brimhaven," Kalda announced, snapping them back to reality. Before them sat a large city in the jungle. It was overrun by pirates, and its harbor was full of ships that flew the black skull-and-crossbones flag.

"Captain Barnaby must be in the pub," Kaisen said. "Let's go find him, so we can begin our journey to Isafdar."

They went into the pub to find their captain.

Saren scanned the crowd of drunken sailors to find Captain Barnaby. "There he is," Saren pointed at the bar. He led Kaisen and Kalda inside.

Kaisen felt it the instant he walked in. The aura of magic was powerful, and Kaisen was immediately curious as to its source. He looked around, and he noticed a man sitting alone, cloaked in a black robe with a hood covering his face.

"Captain Barnaby!" called out Saren, interrupting Kaisen's thoughts. "Let's go!"

"Ah, matey," Barnaby begged, "just a few more beers."

Saren groaned, but he stayed. "Okay, but just one more. You are going to be driving the ship, after all."

Kaisen excused himself and went to meet the mysterious stranger.

As Kaisen approached, the stranger looked up at him. "I could sense your power the moment you entered."

Kaisen had never received such a compliment before. In the world of RuneScape, if your magical aura could be sensed by others, then that meant you were a powerful mage.

"Maybe it is yours, but it is also the power of that object you have in that pouch."

Kaisen covered the pouch so the stranger could not see the dragon egg. "Who are you?"

The man uncovered his face. It was old and had long white hair. "I am undercover, but we are both vassals of Saradomin, so I can reveal myself to you. I am Sedridor, of Wizard's Tower, come to Karamja to do some top secret work on some ruins in the southern area of this island."

Kaisen glared at him. "I am not a Saradominist."

"Really? Then how did you come by the egg of the silver dragon?"

"How did you...?"

"I recognized its signature aura from a mile away. I assume you are a Guthan, so why do you care about the silver dragon?"

Kaisen gave him a stern look. "I care about what is right. I will never turn my back on anyone in need of my help."

"Good, but you do know that you are in danger, right?"

"From Agaben's forces? We left them behind a long time ago."

"Really, what if I told you I could show you." He pulled out a scrying glass. "Take a look."

Kaisen looked in the glass. In it, he saw an army of Black Knights marching. "Where are they?" he asked.

Sedridor replied, "They are in the northern reaches of the kingdom of Kandarin, heading south toward the capital at Ardougne. They are, of course, searching for you."

"We will go on nonetheless," Kaisen replied.

Sedridor smiled. "That is good. Now, I must take my leave. Good luck in your quest, Guthan mage." Sedridor vanished into the crowd.

------Chapter Eight: The Academy of Yanille------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was five days later that the ship first saw land. Barnaby led The Eagle down the western side of Karamja to the lower areas of the kingdom of Kandarin. Kaisen was especially happy at this: he was near his home.

"We've arrived!" called out Captain Barnaby to his passengers.

Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda disembarked, setting foot for the first time in Kandarin. The landscape was grassy and covered in trees. On the horizon to the west were the walls of a great city.

"That's Yanille!" Kaisen explained excitedly, pointing at the city. "It's not that far, let's go!"

He led them over the terrain to the gates of the city. They were searched, and finally the guards allowed them to pass. "Tight security," Saren noted.

"It has to be done," Kaisen replied. "With the ogre city of Gu'Tanoth to the south, we mages have to be prepared."

They ventured forth through the gates into Yanille.

A huge tower was erected in the center of the city. Kaisen pointed at it. "That's the Mage Guild. Only the best mages in RuneScape can come in there."

"That's where you live?" Kalda asked.

Kaisen lowered his head. "No," he muttered. "I'm not powerful enough to enter yet. I live in the Academy." He gestured to a smaller building next to the Guild. "All the lower level mages live there."

He led Saren and Kalda into the building's halls. There were rooms for training on the ground floor, and the upstairs were dormitories for the mages-in-training. "Kaisen!" called out a voice. Kaisen turned and saw a young kid.

"Jian? I almost didn't recognize you," Kaisen said. He turned to Saren and Kalda. "This is Jian. He's a young mage who is in the Academy. We were training partners for a while, and we've been friends ever since."

"Nice to meet you," Jian said to them. "Kaisen, my mage is almost 30!"

"Good for you. Hey, I need to talk to Master Rarve. Do you know where he is?"

"Yes, he's in room 4."

"Thanks." Kaisen motioned for Kalda and Saren to come, and they walked down the halls to meet Mr. Zavistic Rarve.

Kaisen walked into the room to find Zavistic Rarve reading a book of magic lore. He looked up from his work and smiled. "Kaisen! You have returned!"

Kaisen bowed. "Yes, Master Rarve."

Zavistic rose and walked over to him. "I was afraid for you, especially after I received word from my friend Sir Amik Varze."

Kaisen gulped. Rarve knew. "What exactly did he tell you?"

"I think you know. He informed me of a certain burden you are carrying. One that is important, very important indeed, to the survival of Asgarnia."
