"Show it to me," Rarve said to him.

Kaisen pulled out the silver dragon egg and showed it to his master. "Good, good," said Rarve. "Kaisen, I know this will be hard to take, especially after all the time you have carried it, and don't get me wrong: taking it from Port Phasmatys to here was quite impressive. But we need a professional in charge of this mission."

Kaisen was stunned. "You're going to take it away from me?"

Rarve nodded solemnly. "Like I said, I know you will..."

"You dare take this mission away from me after I have performed it so well? I have taken this egg through many kingdoms, survived many dangers!"

"Kaisen, be reasonable! That dragon is the one key to defeating the massive army that Agaben is commanding at this very moment! And who is it in the hands of? A White Knight, a dwarf girl, and a mage who has yet to even enter the Guild! We need mages at level 99 to protect the dragon. They will have a chance against the massive search parties that Agaben is sure to send after it."

Kaisen shook his head and put the egg back in his leather pouch. "You, Master Rarve, cannot make me surrender this."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me. I have done more than just deliver the egg here, I have learned how to cure it. No mage you can conjure up can discover that secret. The dragon stays with me, or it dies."

"You discovered how to cure it? How?"

Kaisen raised his eyebrows. "You really must think I'm an idiot. That's a shame. I thought that if I proved myself, you might actually be proud of me. But I guess that's too much to hope for."

Kaisen turned to walk out of the room. "Where are you going?" Rarve demanded.

Kaisen turned back to him. "I am going to Isafdar, to complete my quest. Goodbye, Master Rarve. I am not coming back to this Academy. Unlike you, I will not tether myself to the path of other mages. I will make my own story, my own tales, my own life." And with that, Kaisen left the Academy for the last time.

Saren stopped him. "Kaisen, are you sure you want to leave for good?"

Kaisen looked back at him and smiled. "Yes, I meant what I said before."

"I respect that." Kaisen was incredibly shocked by this statement. Maybe Saren thought of him as an equal after all.

They walked out of Yanille to the west, toward the mountains that separated Kandarin from the elven forest of Isafdar. As they walked, a voice called out to them from behind them. "Kaisen!"

Kaisen turned. Zavistic Rarve was standing on the battlements over the gate to Yanille. "Kaisen! You cannot enter Isafdar from that direction. The only entrance you can take is the Well of Voyage in the Underground Pass to the west of Ardougne to the north!"

Kaisen called back, "Thank you, Master Rarve!"

"Good luck, Kaisen! Good luck on your quest!"

That might have been the final time Kaisen spoke with Zavistic Rarve.

----Chapter Nine: The Battle for Kandarin-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following Zavistic Rarve's advice, Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda traveled north from Yanille to the capital of Kandarin, the city of Ardougne. The forests became dense, and the travelers had to deal with some pesky goblins along the way, but they eventually reached the massive walls of Ardougne.

The city was bustling with business. Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda were blown away by the incredible marketplace, and its buildings were impressive. Kaisen watched families stroll through the city. All the while, Sedridor's dark prophecy rang in his ears. Iban's army of darkness was coming this way.

The city of Ardougne was so massive, it was divided into two parts: East Ardougne and West Ardougne. East Ardougne was ruled by King Lathas, and West Ardougne was ruled by King Tyras. Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda crossed the wall into West Ardougne. They proceeded to the west, to the cave that led into the mountains, but they were turned back by the guard stationed outside.

"No one can enter without the permission of King Tyras," he said.

They went to King Tyras, and eventually they were granted an audience with the king. "Your majesty," Kaisen began, "we are travelers from the west, and we request permission to enter the Underground Pass."

"Yes," replied Tyras. "That is fine. I am interested in those lands myself. One day, I will..."

"Sir!" called out a guard that entered the throne room.

"You dare interrupt my audience?" Tyras demanded.

"My apologies, sire, but it is an emergency. King Lathas your brother is asking for your help. Ardougne is under attack by a numerous force of Zamorakan Black Knights, and, if all the troops here do not band together, he fears the city will be overrun by morning."

Tyras wore a grim expression. "I will send troops," he said finally. "Guards! To East Ardougne!" The brigades of guards left the palace to aid King Lathas.

"You three," Tyras finished, "can go on ahead. We can take this army." He left the room.

Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda ran outside and looked over the city of Ardougne. A large army of Black Knights was in East Ardougne. Saren scowled. He recognized it immediately as the army led by Iban. There was one thing different, however.

"Wasn't there more of them last time?" asked Kalda. "The dwarves couldn't have eliminated that many of them." Sure enough, the knights and guards of Ardougne far outnumbered the army of darkness. Worst of all, Iban was nowhere to be seen.

"Let's go on ahead into Isafdar," suggested Kaisen, "and pray that Iban is not closing in on us."

The group left the palace and walked to the western mountains of Ardougne, where a great cave was visible. "The Underground Pass," Kaisen said dramatically.

"Let's go," Saren said as he led Kaisen and Kalda into its depths.

Kaisen pulled out some runes and used a fire strike to light a torch, so they could see in the dark cave. As they walked through, they noticed lights in the distance. "Shh," Saren shushed them. He crept up and saw the source of the light. It was a camp of Black Knights.

Needless to say, Saren destroyed them very easily, but their presence dismayed Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda, for they were now quite sure that somewhere in the Underground Pass, Iban was lurking, waiting on them to arrive in his clutches.

-----Chapter Ten: Showdown at the Well----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The journey became far more fearful after that. Iban seemed to be around every corner, in every patch of darkness along the way. Saren's hand was constantly on his whip, ready to strike in the instant he met his archrival. Regardless of their fear, nothing happened, and they reached a large cavern. A deep chasm filled the room, and a stone walkway crossed it into a large platform. On that platform was a well.

"The Well of Voyage!" exclaimed Kaisen. "We made it!"

They ran out onto the platform, and Kaisen immediately stopped. "What's the matter?" asked Saren.

"I can feel a magical aura, and if it is half as strong as I think it is, we are in trouble."

Suddenly there came a loud laughter, and a dark figure came out from behind the well. Of course, it was Iban, at last showing himself. He wore a sinister expression of pure desire for blood. He drew his dragon longsword from its sheath, and Saren in turn drew his whip.

"It's time we had our rematch," Iban challenged.

"I thought it would never come," Saren replied with determination.

The two combatants faced each other on the platform, the great face off ready to begin.

"I think we need to be alone," Iban said sinisterly. He raised his hand, and a fire blast rocketed across the platform, connecting with Kalda and sending her spiraling off the platform into the chasm below.

"Kalda!" shrieked Kaisen in fear. Then, Iban trained his sights on him. Kaisen dodged the missle fired by Iban.

"Run, Kaisen!" shouted Saren. "I can handle him."

"But--"

"You promised me in Keldagrim that if we met Iban again, I could fight him. I am holding you to your word now. Go!"

Kaisen wanted to argue, but he was a man of his word. He set off to find a way down to see if Kalda was okay.
