The water was cold and dark around Kaisen as he flailed in the stormy sea. His lungs felt like they were being crushed under a rolling pin, and he gasped for air. Finally, he broke the surface and inhaled. He looked up at the ship towering above him. He knew that on top of it, his friends were at the mercy of Solus Dellagar (who Kaisen was pretty sure had none). Kaisen looked up at the gangplank on the ship. He had to get up there. Then, he had an idea.

Reaching into his bag of runes, he pulled out a law and cast telekinetic grab on the gangplank. The gangplank would not come down, so it did the next best thing. It pulled Kaisen up. Kaisen grabbed hold of the gangplank and threw himself up onto the deck.

He got to the battlefield just in time to see Saren fall to the deck a bruised, beaten mess. Solus turned his attention to Kalda. "You're next, pretty little girl," he whispered menacingly to her.

Kalda prepared to fight off Solus, but the blow she expected did not come. As Solus moved in to attack, Kaisen blasted a water blast (a spell he was only just strong enough to use) at Solus. The beast-man was toppled onto the deck by the force of the blow. He was about to use the amulet's power to get back up again and fight on, but he did not expect what happened next. Kalda wielded her black warhammer and smashed the blue gemstone in the amulet.

The gem was broken, shattered into tiny pieces that fell to the deck. Solus roared in pain, and his magic began to flood away from him. The dark storm clouds dispersed, and the waters calmed. Solus rose shakingly to his feet.

So did Saren. "You're under arrest," he said to Solus, "by order of the Temple Knights."

Solus smirked. "You'll have to catch me first." Solus dove off the ship into the sea, and his body did not rise to the surface where Saren could see it.

"There's no way he could survive out here in the ocean," Saren said.

Kaisen wanted to believe, but he knew that stranger things had happened.

Captain Barnaby came over to the exhausted fighters. "You did well," he said. "In all me years of sailing, I've never seen such combat. I regret my treatment of you now. Ye have saved me ship and me life. On me honor as a captain, I give ye this oath. I will sail you to Karamja, and then wherever ye wish. I will take ye to the ends of RuneScape, and in any sea ye want. On my honor." He bowed to them.

"Thank you," Kaisen said between breaths. He turned to Saren. "We might have a shot after all."

The island continent of Karamja approached on the horizon.

-------Chapter Five: The Inferno---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was in the afternoon of the day after the battle with Solus Dellagar when the crew of The Eagle first laid eyes on Karamja. Land appeared before them, and Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda saw the jungle spread out on the island. Captain Barnaby sailed the boat to the beach and docked it.

"I will remain here for you," he said as Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda disembarked.

"No," Kaisen replied. "You may go to Brimhaven. Wait for us there."

"Aye, sir!" Captain Barnaby shouted as he took off in the ship to the west, to the port city of Brimhaven.

Meanwhile, the other adventurers walked through the banana plantation to find the TzHaar region. The trees rose up on either side of them, and in front of them, a huge volcano rose up like a tower.

"There," Kaisen pointed at the volcano. "I remember a book at the Academy that said the TzHaar region was on the volcano."

"Not on," Kalda corrected, "in. The region is in a series of caves under the volcano itself."

"How did you know that?"

"The TzHaar are skilled smiths. They are perhaps the only race on RuneScape that are better than us dwarves. We know quite a bit about them."

"Here we are," Saren interrupted, pointing to a huge cave in the slope of the volcano. "Time to get in."

The walls were coated with lava, and chasms of magma flowed under the narrow ledges on which Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda gingerly walked, trying to avoid falling into the lava. The heat was almost unbearable, and, for once, Kaisen did not have to worry about the dragon egg being too cold.

Kaisen wiped sweat off his face. "I don't know how much more of this heat I can stand."

Saren gritted his teeth. "You can stand more than you think." He followed the path that was descending deeper into the subterranean labyrinth of flaming caves. "We're getting closer. The walls are starting to appear like they were constructed." Sure enough, some parts of the wall were built by square stones fashioned to fit.

The path descended into a large cavern with glowing floors and firey walls, and Saren, Kaisen, and Kalda looked upon the city of the TzHaar.
