The wood was pitch black, perfect for blending in. Using a hand drill, he dug into the wood longways, with the right side facing up. He hand-drilled five holes, then used his metal files. The files were like one of those old skin files meant for flaking off dead and callused skin and grinding off excess nail, but this one was for metal. The file Redtooth used was round piece of metal, about 16 centimeters long by 12 centimeters high. And 6 centimeters in circumference.
Redtooth inserted the file into the drilled hole in the wood, and made a back-and-forth motion, removing any bit of metal that would prevent a clean fit.
Then Redtooth tried to fit the rectangular burl to the tang of the knife, (the part that the handle attaches to). It did not fit, meaning there was still material in it that the goblin blacksmith had to remove. He grabbed a small metal hook and inserted it into the wood, making the same motion he made with the file to remove material.
When he was satisfied, he tried again. This time it was a clean fit. Redtooth removed the tang from the burl.The next thing Redtooth did was use his diamond hand drill to make two holes into the tang for the black pins that he had in stock. Once that was done, he mixed a glue-like substance known as epoxy with charcoal dust to give it a shade of black, then he used a paintbrush to coat the epoxy into the hole, he also covered the tang with the substance, then he placed the tang into the hole, and clamped it shut in an air-tight grip with a vise.
The epoxy was a special type that dried extremely quickly. Within 10 minutes, Redtooth felt confident enough to loosen the vise grip. Next was the shaping of the handle. wearing special gloves, so as not to get cut by the razor-sharp blade. Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy!
