If the Vergas could smell blood of their own kind while in a septic environment, unnoticed evasion was impossible within talking range. The creatures had to be dealt with immediately; if they walked back in their hideout, they would remain in the way regardless.
Contrary to her complaint, the fourth Vergas was lost to admiration and, as the last to pass the hidden killer, was the first targeted. Impending slaughter lurked in the shadows, kindled by lightless patience--Malus swung sideways low, intending to drag his sword across the legs of multiple Vergas at once, then would continuously twirl his blade while closing distance with the nearest standing foe if they dispersed.

The vampire dissipated into shade, dodging an attack that was never performed? Sakura hadn’t made any attack, yet an attack occurred regardless. Since this was the case, Sakura’s attack--whatever it was--could not damage a shadowy form.
Since her foe had vanished, Sakura kept the momentum of her ax going, changing its direction then slamming it upon an apparition’s head, clefting his head asunder. Several more apparitions appeared, resembling dead men as if all their blood had leaked out their bodies, their veins black, eyes and hair pale. Like the initial apparitions, they carried katanas and tate shields.
The lifeless apparitions swung their blades, cutting Sakura’s shoulder guards and mask. She resisted the attacks, then retaliated by her own hefty blows, each one smashing through an apparition’s shield then biting against lifeless flesh, hurling him off his feet. Sakura continued swinging her ax, side to side, hissing as the veritable mass of sharpened steel felled a man per blow.
