Annie listened to his orders. She stood close to the captain as he order her to do. She never saw so many dolphins as they sailed. She thought the Dolphins were interesting and felt safe with them. She kept her eyes open for danger as a captain ordered as he walked away to his quarters. She didn’t know what was her orders from the captain so she waited to see if he does. -Dances-

Captain Otodus listened to everyone--to the shoals it shall be, a navigational hazard but nevertheless a slight sign of hope.

* * *

The dolphins made for a cute sight.

After dawn, morning. When it was time, the captain got Hanxi to steer the ship. Hanxi’s time spent on the seas were limited to smaller vessels, though his mariner father taught him what needed to be known--such basic skills could pass onto a larger vessel albeit limited.

Although over a foot shorter than the captain, Hanxi performed to the best of his abilities while the mates went to the front and Captain went for sleep.

Hanxi lifted his visor for better visibility, dark brown eyes alert and ever-watching. He noticed Annie’s bewilderment and assumed second-in-command.

“Ms. Annie, you good with bow and arrows but very short. Does ship mast have crow’s nest? Perhaps good vantage point for you and magic with elven skills--but be careful and don’t burn sails or ropes!”

Annie kept her eyes keen for danger as she heard Hanxi comment. She respond to Hanxi,”I am but, I don’t know if this ship mast have crow’s nest. You have to ask Aia about that. It’s a good idea though.” She wondered how he figure it out that she has powers. -Dances-

Experienced seamen the crew were not, for Aia felt they would have not made such a decision had they been. The path that was chosen was the one of unknown danger, as the captain made mention of in his speech, and such a path was always the one that was the most dangerous. There could be nothing in their path...or there could be everything. A gamble might pay off, but sooner or later a gamble would assuredly doom them. The most difficult path was the one where the least could be anticipated.

Still, that was the decision, and she was not bothered overly. They were not committing themselves to death by any means, and if they wished to take a gamble then one could simply hope that it would pay off. As with all things, only the future would tell.

As the captain gave his orders and retreated into his cabin, Aia couldn’t help but grinning just slightly. It was just like him to do something like this, even if now was likely the best time for him to take a rest. The ship was left to the crew, and by the grace of the crew they would either make it through or they would sink.

There seemed to be some confusion or hesitation among a few of the members, and as she had the deck it seemed directions to those undecided or not directed would have to come from her.

Make your choices quickly, it is not wise to dawdle.
” she said, voice coming from around everyone even as she moved towards the bow. To Annie, who seemed the most lost, she added, “
If you are not chosen for the boats, then position yourself to call directions as the Captain ordered. The path we chose is not one of combat, so be ready but do not expect it.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Annie listened to Aia orders. She felt still confused what she orders were. She was about to place herself to call directions. She decided to asked Aia,”Do you want me in the crow’s nest?” She was wondering because she was shorter than everybody else. -Dances-

The vote was nearly tied before a reeking goblin ultimately voted in favor of sailing toward the shoals. Mercy had heard stories of how difficult those could be to navigate such a large vessel. Still, the alternatives were to turn and fight, and she wasn’t exactly hoping for those either. She chewed her lip slightly as the captain spoke. He had a plan devised within moments. Havoc and Groshub (the goblin?) were to pick smaller teams and be sent ahead in smaller rafts to guide the ship more safely.

The young nurse nodded along, eager to return to her own work. As the crew members began separating off to their own tasks, Mercy returned to her station. The sun and the moon had both disappeared from the sky by now. She retired to her bunk and slept.

It wasn’t long before the churning of the waves woke the woman. She had been so exhausted the night before that she had barely noticed them.

As she rose from bed, Mercy remembered the plan for the day. She started to dress quickly, but considered scrapping one of her dresses and using it as fabric for pants. It would make her more mobile, in any event. She decided against it, for now, and opted for a dress. It was a soft cream color with very little ornamentation.

After a few hours of formulating a list of tools and medicines she’d like to have on deck, the surgeon sighed. Mercy returned to the main deck and peered out over the water. It wasn’t long before the captain began giving other people orders before retiring to his own room. She assumed she would not be one of the crew picked to go with a smaller boat, given her inexperience. Still, being present on deck would allow her to maybe pick up a trick or two.

Havoc repeatedly emerges onto the deck throughout the night, appearing bored and restless, humming and whistling various river pirate tunes. They admire the pod of dolphins with fascination—"Never seen so many sharks," they remark to Annie. It's hard to tell if they're joking.

When dawn comes, Havoc has already cooked up a hearty breakfast—a fresh-baked loaf of bread prepared during the night, strips of greasy (but satisfying) bacon, and a curious starchy vegetable they've brought with them from the Black Rivers. Chopped up and tossed in the pot with the bacon and herbs, the vegetable takes on a savory, crispy profile. After informing the captain of the whereabouts of breakfast, they go to collect their chosen pair.

They seek out Sin first. If the elf is still sleeping, they try to wake her very gently—Sin doesn't have the looks of one who appreciates being grabbed and roughly shaken awake, even if that's Havoc's habit. "The dawn's here, Miss Elf," they say softly, offering a plate of food. "Best eat up quickly. We've a ride ahead of us, and we may want for your cuttin' artistry."

Next, she seeks out Ulysses. If he is still sleeping, she grabs him and roughly shakes him awake. "Come watch the sunrise with us, mate!" she sings, shoving a plate in his face. "We'll be watching it from the boat. Eat up quick!"

Annie smell delicious breakfast that Havoc made. She was able get breakfast from Havoc and started eating it as she waited for Aia answer to her question. She thought the food was delicious. She drank water to wash it all down. -Dances-

"Aye, aye," said Ulysses, who then forced himself upright with one hand and held his plate in the other. He had only returned to his chambers in the small hours of the morning, having spent the night in the crow's nest - though he didn't go wholly without sleep up there - and so now found himself rather restless and irritated. He took a few bites of his breakfast, and though it was quite good, still his nerves were repressing his appetite and he could not stomach much. He left the plate on the floor by his cot to perhaps be revisited later, or more likely consumed by vermin.

The scoundrel sleepily found his way into his clothes and lit a cigarette as he exited his quarters, following the cook up and out into the light of dawn. There on deck with the pretty nurse, Ulysses realized he still did not know the names of perhaps half the crew; only Otodus had introduced himself directly, and Ulysses had gleaned the names of the cook, the goblin, the masked man, and the spirit by way of the captain's orders.

Still , he thought as he pursed his lips around his cigarette and stretched his arms over his head, so early was hardly the time to bother folks with introductions . There would be more time and less imminent danger later on.

Ulysses blinked a few times to clear the sleep from his eyes and adjust to the brightness of the morning. He found his way back to his post on the railing from the previous day and leaned out over the open ocean, considering now the likelihood of encountering the armada despite their chosen course to evade them. He shouldn't have sold his swords, or his breastplate, for that matter; unarmed he would be of little use if the Sea Banshee found itself facing open combat.

He exhaled acrid tobacco smoke, coughed softly, and sighed. His next opportunity to replace his swords would be when - if - they docked at Traders Bay. Perhaps a pipe would be a good idea, too. And some liquor.
Joe? It's your post on Hard Times.

Sin does not enjoy mornings. She had been up late, still feeling a little ill at ease from being at sea. It had been an inconvenient time to admit she has never actually gone sailing before in her many years of existence.

Now she appears on the deck, with a zombie-like blank expression that betrays her tiredness, as well as the shadows under her eyes. Her hair is loose, cascading over her back in a sheet of pale blonde hair. She is carefully combing through it as she appears, as if she lost patience with the darkness of below deck, and decided to finish getting ready in the early morning light.

Finishing brushing her hair, she begins twisting it up into its usual bun, peering out to sea thoughtfully.
