A dark hooded figure seemed to float toward Nathan. Its torn and mud stain robes held the secret towards the person's face without comment. The slow and heavy breathing of the man, seemed to stop Nathan's heart and increase his heavy breath. The figure dragged its hand from the cloak sleeve and only to reveal a cold and fleshless hand, waiting to grab Nathan. Nathan looked for a way out of this dark corner, only he saw nothing only a dead alley. Nathan's slowly beating heart echoed through the darkness, as the creature advanced. “Remember me...” cried the hooded creature.
“Remember me....”

Chapter 2
Waking the Heir

Nathan woke with a steady jerk, his heart pounding loudly. His body covered in cool sweat, and his unrested eyes reddened. A loud beating sound came from the wooden made door, and he slowly got out of bed trying to calm his beating head that seemed to compete against his heart. “Coming..” he moaned slowly. 'The drinks last night, doesn't seem to work out with me,' Nathan thought. He finally got to his feet and opened the door, but was surprised to a see a young boy standing there. He had a calm tanned face, with sloppy black hair and dirty clothes. His shirt was long gone and vest was the only piece of wool that seems to warm his back, along with a pair of dust covered trousers.
“You'd be Master Corway, sir?*
*That'll be me, what could I do for you?” Nathan replied, still weary from sleep.

“I'd be sent 'rom Alden, sir. Told me to 'liver this letter, he told me so,” the boy replied. He extended his hand held a letter that seemed to be hidden in his back pocket. Nathan grabbed the letter and nodded to the boy, knowing that most post boys would spend their earned money on a glass of 'jolly ways,' which was just what was needed in a cold day like this. Jolly ways was slang word used for fruity tasted alcohol, but most young children drank it when they weren't supervised.

Nathan staggered back into his room and sat on the bed holding his head. The letter laying next to him, seemed to brightly shine for it wasn't long before Nathan's curiosity seemed to out grow him and he opened the letter. Most of the letter was just 'horse do' as Nathan called it,but he finally decided that he will meet this so called “Star.”
After a quick breakfast and a drink to sooth his still pounding mind, he walked down to the other side of the city called Cheapside. The name seems to suit the area for it was the poorest side of the city. Many poor daughters were sent out to become women of the night (if you catch my drift), while the young boys looted and stole to gain their share of the money. As Nathan walked down the streets of Cheapside, it seemed to have brought old memories to Nathan for he quickly remembered his own childhood which resembled the surrounding here. Nathan walked down the street, until he sees a dark alley from a distance. The alley was the only mark of land, that wasn't filled with the many poor beggars. The alley itself, seemed to scare away the groups of men and women walking down the street for they walk away from it or try and stray not to close, but this doesn't frighten Nathan. He knew that many people feared that area for only one reason, it was the entrance to the Athenians. For centuries, Qualimin was plagued with two rivalry gangs, called the Athenians and the Revenant Gang. They waged war on each other since anyone could remember. The fought all over town and it never seemed to stop.
Though Nathan, wasn't a part of the gang or the endless battle, he was well aware of the dangerous that possessed for even talking to a member, and that reason has aways stuck in his mind. He walked down the quiet and musty alley watching rats scuttle away from trash heaps that were threatened with invasion.

At the end of the alley, if Nathan remembered correctly he had to ring the bell twice and knock thrice. But if he was wrong, there will be some trouble to pay. The old door was old, and almost falling down but this didn't fool Nathan. He knew that the door was quite strong compared to its appearance. So he advances to the door, carefully knowing that he was being watched. It wasn't like a magic trick or a special power. Nathan developed over time a way of knowing the danger level in a area, and here it was off the charts. A golden bell shined over the doorway, and string attached to it. It slowly rang a nearly soundless sound, that couldn't have been heard unless he was right next to it. He pulled the bell twice, a small pause after each pull then he beat his fist against the dark wood three times.
There was a small pause, then a click from the inside of the door and it opened. A small man in his late forty stood in the doorway not allowing entrance into the building. He had a stern look on his face, and he slowly looked from top to bottom at Nathan. “Corway eh? He told me you ain't nothing fancy,” the man grumbled. “Next time, I'll ask for the code and it'll be “Horns Trumpet.” Remember it or don't bother coming at all, if you wish to leave this god-forsaken alley.” Nathan grinned as the man turned away from him and started walking down the passage. It was a one way walk, with torches lit on each wall every couple of yards. The passage way, opened up to a small room with a cage around them and four masked men sitting, playing cards. “Corway, here to see Alden,” croaked the man.
One of the masked men, gets up and fiddled with his keys looking for the right one. He didn't even look at Nathan, opened the caged door and went back to his game. The man that lead him from the entrance of the hideout, returned back to his post and Nathan with no guide was forced to press on.

He walked down the passage wall, passed the large caged room and in another room with statues all around him. Each statue, was masked with the same form of cloth that was worn by the cage guards. The enigma of the Athenians. Nathan looked around, admiring the statues and gleamed at the figures that were chiseled into the wall. There was a brand of strange written words, with different characters that Nathan could read, but there was one that seemed to find Nathan's soul and hold it tight for it was lit with two torches so people could read it clearly.
“Left melior per aurum in m**** m****, quam nusquam procul totus. (sorry but for some reason, some latin words are starred out, i apologize again.) It means 'Left better with gold in hand, than nothing at all.' Quite an interesting verse, no?*
Nathan turned with a quick jerk, and was about to reach for his crozier when he noticed the old familiar face. Alden. Wearing leather chaps and body with a golden ear ring, he looked younger than he appears. “You shouldn't sneak upon me, like that. A thief has many enemies and trouble lurks around it's being.” explained Nathan. They shook hands, and proudly Alden replied, “Couldn't have said it better myself.”
Alden walked away from Nathan, and approached the wall with the strange logo on it. The torched seems to burn more lightly, and he Alden looked at the words with a sigh, only to begin, “Many thieves in the olden day of Qualimin, were commented on their deathbed of their life duties and skills. They were to pass down their secret of life, which was shiner than most jewels around the world. Though it is not known who carved this on the wall, it forevers seems to haunt the ever person that reads this mural.”

Alden turned around, and this times faced Nathan, he eyes seemed to hold the torches light. He fist was clamped and raised as if he was going to hit Nathan but he only directed it with each flow of his words. “Don't you see? Treasures are given to this world, and can be taken from each other as a mere breath of air. I've often found myself thinking is gold better than life. And the only answer that returns is yes it is, for I will take it back or replace it as a thief would.” Alden gazed at the mural, with a long pause. Nathan listened to the cracking of the flames from the torches, his mind wondering over the reason why Alden spoke of this. The statues that are surrounding them, glared at them and Nathan noticed other sayings near them each with a date on it. Many of them weren't looked up too as this one was but he couldn't help to let his mind wonder about them. “Are you determined to meet, your heir?” asked Alden without even turning.
Nathan replied quietly with a small yes, and they left the statue chamber. They walked away from the protected chambers and finally into the heart of the hideout. It must have been built right under the city's square because rattling of carts, and movement could be heard from up above. The passage opened up into a larger chamber, one of the largest in the hideout with different corridors leading every which way. A large fireplace was built with a large glowing ember burning in its place. A masterful table that could hold at least thirty people, rested in the middle of the chamber with hand crafted chairs by its place. Though no one was present at the time, Nathan could feel the vibe of the area when it was fully filled. Alden walked past the room, and turned at a corridor walking down it without a word. They finally met upon a door, with a brass lock on it. “I wish to tell you, she has been fairly treated. But please do not think that she doesn't deserve any less,* Alden spoke and the opened the door.
