“Not a fan of riddles?” she asked Kain with a smile. “Me neither. Some things are simply too large to explain.” She turned to face the new arrival. “Zibor,” she said. “I thought I head your name last night.”

“Did those things,” Tyl looked at the five objects in her hands. “Did they tell you our names?”
She nodded.
*What are they?” he asked.

“You already know,” she said. “Fallen stars.”
The Woman in White looked up at the sky, rose colored and filled with soft yellow clouds. “The Fight I told you about, the one over this place where we stand now, it’s still going on. And sometimes there are casualties. But nothing ever really dies. I told you that,” she smiled at Kain, sweetly but perhaps with passive aggression. “But when a body is destroyed, that life needs somewhere new to go. Now I give these to you all to carry,” she said.

In one hand, she held out all five stones- resting on her open palm.
“Tyl, Kain, Zibor, Glenn, and Mifili,” she said. “The moment these entered our atmosphere, they were you and you were them. You’ll understand,” she assured them as she lifted the hem of her heavy white dress and stepped forward to offer the stones to the young men.

Tyl stepped forward before the others could. Somehow he already knew which stone was Tyl. It was small and almost perfectly spherical, polished from the heat it must have taken on as it fell. It was almost entirely silver metal with a small band of brown stone and a few small flecks of gold.
The moment he touched it in the woman’s hand, it glowed with bright white light of any star.
Tyl was blinded by the radiance but suddenly he imagined something- thoughts like memories that had been placed there by a past life. Only glimpse- he remembered a soldier charging into battle at the front of an army. He remembered what the Woman in White had said. ‘…sometimes there are casualties…’

As he grasped the star Tyl from the woman’s hand, the glowing died down and Tyl had only his own memories again. He placed the stone in the safest pocket of his backpack, not paying any attention to the Woman in White as she looked to the other boys and nodded towards her open hand.

Glenn rolled his eyes, albeit not openly. He had agreed with Kain earlier, when he was taking his star, but his other actions were...impatient. Especially the part about leaving the other person out of the...whatever it was they were going to do.

But the last member finally crested the hill, out of breath and already making jokes. Where some people might be irritated with their final member not only being late, but making a first impression by joking, Glenn smiled warmly.

However, it appeared that the Lady in White had more to say. There was apparently a fight, and causalities, and...were these stars the remnants of bloody battles? More importantly, were they accepting new life by taking these stones, or a past life?

Questions without answers didn't suit Glenn very well, but he also understood that answers rarely came without action. Looking nervously around at the others, he spoke up: "Well, I suppose I'll go next then!" he chuckled slightly, and stepped forward.

Of course, Glenn was also drawn to his stone; A flat oval, the kind that would be perfect for skipping across a pond. Seemingly the same color as a regular rock, but reflecting deep emerald light when looked at from the right angle.

He grabbed it cautiously, light emanating just as with the first star, and saw...something. Like the memory of a dream: he saw a man with a torch, exploring the wonder of a cave's darkness.

Once the light died down, Glenn wasn't sure if he had fewer questions, or more.

Who was Mifili before? Who was he now? Did it really matter now? All he wanted to was continue to listen to the White Woman, hanging on her every word.

Mifili instantly was brought back from deep thought from the White Woman's speech as a newcomer appeared on the hill. *Great another one that's taller than me~ He thought as he looked around at his taller compatriots.

"What loose ends?" He snapped at the newcomer. Doubling back on himself once he had witnessed the light burst forth from the stones. "No matter; I know which is mine." Confidently said as he reached forwards and grabbed what was a ruby and sapphire fused together. When he picked it up, red and blue light flashed as he shown visions of a court room, a criminal, a jury. ~Guilty~ ~Not guilty~ This is what was he ringing loudly in his mind as the visions came to a stop and the gem, split into two halves.

“Zibor…?” he repeated quietly, getting a feel for it in his mouth. Somehow, the word had a familiar ring – followed by what he could only describe as a bitter aftertaste. It was not a name that bore affection, but like the others, it was the name he knew would choose to keep – if not for anything but a strange sense of respect.

Approaching the Woman in White, Zibor quickly glanced at the two remaining pebbles sitting on her palm. Hesitantly, he reached for a smooth obsidian pebble, ready to grasp his fingers about it – only to find his fingers fell short of their mark. A chill worked its way up his spine, as the light slowly receded from the hillside. It was for but a moment, but he had never felt as alone as he did right that second.

With two blinks and a wipe of his sweaty brow, Zibor returned to the hillside. Eager to move on, he eased the stone from the woman’s hand before stepping back. Curiously, as he examined the pebble closer, it did not sit squarely on his palm, rather, he noted that the pebble hovered ever so slightly.

Clutching his fist around the fragment, he looked upwards with a soured face, coolly waiting for the next series of events.

Kain accepted the 'fallen star', that's when the memories flooded his mind. Kain had felt a handle in his hand with a knife, as silently he followed a man. The memory was so real, he followed the man and got closer, he then said something that did couldn't hear what he said, the man tried to turn.

Kain had slit open the mans throat the last words he did hear as clear as day as blood dripped, "May you find peace in your next life." Kain's memory seemed to fast forward a bit where he accepted payment for killing the man.

Then he shook his head and he found himself back still standing there with the others along with the women in white. He then said with a question, "What was that that I just saw..."
and nothing was spoiled :P

((YMTD- Your character actually shouldn’t have their weapon yet. I wasn’t sure if this staff was meant to be the weapon from you bio or something else. The weapon I asked you to describe in your bio is something that your character will be able to produce when under attack. I was going to wait until that actually happened to explain that, and I’ll go into more detail when it does- but for now don’t worry about the weapon. However, with your star being a ruby melded with a sapphire, your weapon will fit nicely with that.))

“I told you,” said the Woman in White with a smile to Kain. “You are not the first Kain. You are not the last Kain. Kain has existed for a long time,” she said with a nod to the star he still held in his hand.

“Like reincarnation?” Tyl asked.

*Not entirely, no,* answered the Woman in White. “But perhaps similar, yes,” she said. “I’ve never had to answer so many questions during a Wake,” she said with a chuckle. “They are questions with answers that are difficult to be put into words. Usually people come to understand these things as they spend time with their fallen star. There are some things you should know that I can tell you with simple words,” she said.
She looked northward, away from the group of young men- her eyes were focused on the distance as if lost in thought.
*What you perceive as an individual,” she began. “Some one with two parents, a birthday, a name, a favorite color… for the ones who started that fight that I mentioned… those ideas of ‘individuals’ are only part of a much larger identity. You still want to cling to the idea of individual, and that’s fine,” she assured them. “You still understand so little about he way the universe really is. But you’re not an individual anymore. Not since last night when that star fell… You are an identity.”

“I still don’t understand though…” Tyl mused, looking at the older boys, trying to gauge their own understanding.

“You will,” she promised warmly. “Spend time with the stars you now have. They’re a part of you, and they understand this all completely and entirely. In time, they’ll be able to explain it to you better than I ever can,” she said. “I have a task for you,” she added. “Something that will give you time to be with your stars. After a Wake, I send people to the Crystal Valley north of here,” she gestured before her. “The crystals that grow there are the product of massive energy that was placed bellow the mountains.”

For a moment, Tyl and the others saw the image of something polished, crystalline, and vaguely heart shaped, glowing deep within a strange stone room.

“The crystals carry small traces of that energy in them,” she went on. “I usually ask to be brought crystals back from that place,” she said. “But this Wake is different,” she looked over her shoulder where the group was gathered behind her. “So I think it is time… I need a barrier to be created around the energy source,” she told them. “Everything you need to know, about how to make that happen* you will remember when you arrive there.”

"Oh man, that's making my brain melt a little bit," Glenn said, rubbing his temples. "But hey, I suppose if we can only get our answers over time, there's no use standing here confusing ourselves." Glenn said, casting glances around the little 'group' they had going here.

Rag-tag? Probably. But organized groups never were his thing; not enough variety. Suddenly being thrown into a group with unknown dynamics...that was more his style! A little surprises every now and then never hurt anyone.

"So, just hike north until our rocks beam more cryptic hints straight into our gray matter? Sounds like a plan!" Glenn said, obviously ready to set forth.

((Since no one is posting, I’m assuming everyone is just a little uncertain of what to say. I’ll go ahead and post again. Sorry if I left you hanging))

The Woman in White nodded at Glenn’s summery of the task at hand. “Your stars are connected to generations of people who have been Glenn… or Tyl… or Kain… Mifili… Zibor… in the past. Their collected knowledge is yours. But because so much information would destroy you, fragile as you are, your star knows when and where to allow you to access what information.”

“That’s a lot to take in,” said Tyl.

“It is,” agreed the woman. “But although you do not feel it… you have been through this before,* she assured him.

*I have one more question,” Tyl began. “This power supply thing. Why does it need barriers?”

The Woman in White answered with no reserve or hesitation. “There will be forces who want to destroy it,” she said. “We cannot let that happen. A power barricades me from the Valley or else I would go there myself. Those barricades were placed by the ones who would destroy the Heart in the Valley. They would see this entire city destroyed if they could,* she said with a sad sigh as she turned to look at Bay City behind them. “It’s our responsibility to protect it.”

For a moment, in the same way that Tyl had seen a vision of the Heart, he saw blinding shapes bursting through space like comets and enter the atmosphere violently, as if leaving it shattered behind them.
The vision left an unsettling feeling in his stomach and somehow he knew that the Woman was right- something was threatening Bay City, and the Heart would its first target.

“There’s another Star in the Valley already,” said the Woman in White. *Atria. Her Wake was a few days ago. I imagine she’s already aware that you’re headed in your direction,” she explained. “Atria will be able to help you when you arrive. She’s only a few days older than you, but I imagine she*ll have learned a thing or two.*

*Great!” said Tyl excitedly “Let’s get going!”
