Selene simply turned and walked away. She knew well enough the layout of the room, a bridge spanned from one door to another, while on either side were spiked pits. Sirens, creatures which could assume the form and voice of anything sat on narrow ledges next to the wall and tried to lure those who had made it to this room into the pits. The first few times she had been here, Selene had nearly been killed, and she was not about to let that happen again. So ignoring Rose, or rather, the Siren pretending to be Rose, she pushed onward.
“Selene!”
Selene turned reflexively to the new voice, and gasped. Near one of the walls, her little brother, who had died nearly five years ago, lay slumped on the ground, bleeding profusely.
“Selene,” he gasped, reaching out with his hand.
She actually took a few steps toward him, so overcome by emotion that she wasn’t thinking. But she quickly caught herself; another Siren. Forcing back the tears that had come as she saw her little brother, or more accurately, his image, dying again, she ran to the next door, and forced it open, entering the next room. All the while she knew that it was her fault that he had died. That time, she had tried to use the power hidden within this temple, and that power had killed her brother, and left no trace of him behind.
"He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."
