Ah, the memories it brings to see the birth of Orcris once more. I especially like the fact that you gave him a choice Aqua, and that we can see the turmoil within him this time as he grasps for the sword.

Also the way he absorbs the vitality helps to explain alot of the oncoming line if I may add. Perhaps even if you follow the game's storyline to it's full you might still be able to insert some of the history you were building before there's nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy within the fantasy... And I'd love to see us battling the 7 sins once more, considering they granted us quite a fight the last time.

But this is a completly new story and I'm glad that your imagination never dies Aqua, we're here to support you never forget that, hehe=)

I never really ended up reading the whole of the original version, but I suppose that makes it all the easier to enjoy the story without noticing the changes you've had to make.

You're a great author Aqua, and it's a pleasure to read your work.

To Kain, if you end up reading this, I'd like to talk with you on the in-game chat or on something like *** messenger. I'm thinking about trying to restart the Tale of Malus with an actual coherent plot and simplified story and I'd like to discuss it with you.

CHAPTER II – THREADS OF FATE

Aquaregis stood atop one of the parapets of the white knight’s castle, looking out over the city. People crowded the street as dawn approached; merchants, setting up shop, guards changing shifts, gardeners setting about their daily tasks, white knights and adventurers leaving for various reasons. Still, the city was silent, a tribute to the passing night.

“Sightseeing, or are you actually working?” asked a boy with blond hair and strange, blood red eyes, as he walked up the stairs leading to the parapet.

Aquaregis did*’t turn around as he spoke, “Caihoc used the Black Pentagram again last night.”

“Oh, so he still doesn’t know where to look for the seals?” questioned the boy as he walked in front of Aquaregis.

“It won’t be long before he figures it out,” said Aquaregis, “Also Zaros has been making more moves; he’s found a person to bear his darkness.”

“I already know about it,” replied the boy. Noting Aquaregis’ surprised expression, he continued, “Seren made a huge fuss about it to Saradomin, Zamorak, and Guthix. One of Saradomin’s servants mentioned it to me.” There was another pause before the boy added, “By the way, I’m disappointed, I come to visit you for the first time in months, and what do I get? No, 'Seth, it’s been too long!’ or ‘How have you been old friend?’ Just a list of what’s been going wrong in the world.”

“I apologize,” replied Aquaregis, “The events of late have been bearing on my mind and-” Aquaregis trailed off and collapsed; thankfully, Seth caught him before he actually hit the rough stone floor.

“You’re doing it again,” sighed Seth, “You know that while your magic is far more powerful than a human's, your body is frail; to be precise, your magic and your life are one and the same. Yet you insist on pushing yourself until you collapse.”

“I’m sorry,” Aquaregis replied with obvious exhaustion.

Seth sighed again, “Don’t worry about it, I’ll take you to my room; you can sleep in my bed while I'm on duty.”

“Thank you,” replied Aquaregis, “But you know, you really do spoil me while you're around. Why is that?”

“Oh, I can't spoil my friends?” Seth asked with a smile. Under his breath he added, “Maybe it's guilt... since I failed another friend?”

Aquaregis, tired as he was, didn't seem to hear this last part. To many, it seemed strange that two people so opposite of each other could be as close friends as Aquaregis and Seth were. Even their appearances were nearly opposite; Aquaregis’ dark hair and silver blue eyes contrasted sharply with Seth’s light blond hair and deep red eyes. Seth was a model knight; skilled with all weapons, honorable to a fault, and always loyal to his ideals. Aquaregis was the stereotypical mage; relying on magic for even mundane tasks; likewise he was secretive, manipulative, and deceitful. Their pasts were also at odds; several years ago, the Zamorakians had tried to kill off Seth, and he had been rescued, taken in, and trained by the Temple Knights. Around the same time Saradominists had tried to kill Aquaregis, and he had been rescued, taken in, and trained by the Dagon’Hai. Even their current social situations were different; Seth held a high position, and had recently married, while Aquaregis held no real position, and had never seemed interested in courtship or dating.

However, somehow, Aquaregis and Seth had always been friends. They had often snuck away from their respective groups and gone adventuring together. As they grew older their friendship deepened, and when ordered to kill one another, they both refused, running afoul of the orders to which they owed their lives.

Aquaregis managed a slight smile. He was truly thankful to have a friend like Seth with him. That was the mage’s last thought before arriving at Seth’s room, collapsing into bed, and promptly falling asleep.

It was still early in the morning when a scream erupted through the Seer's Village. Almost immediately, the Knights of the Round Table were outside looking for the source of the disturbance. What they found made their blood run cold.

The Chaos Elemental was floating right outside the gates of Camelot, with an old man dressed in a multi-colored suit sitting atop it.

“Good work pony,” he was telling the Chaos Elemental, “We have finally arrived in Camelot!”

“Excuse me there!” shouted King Author as he walked over to the Chaos Elemental, apparently unafraid of the legendary beast before him.

“Oh, and who would you be?” asked the old man.

“I am King Author, lord of Camelot,” replied the king, “And I must ask you to leave. The Chaos Elemental is too dangerous to be in a city!”

“Psch!” exclaimed the old man, “You’re trying to order me, Ginko Fask, around? Who do you think you are; some kind of king?”

King Author stared at Ginko Fask with a look of absolute astonishment. Even if he hadn’t just announced that he was the KING Author, the crown would have given it away to any sane person. Then again, amended the king, what kind of sane person would ride the Chaos Elemental?

Ignoring his growing annoyance at the old man, King Author managed to calmly state, “If you do not leave, my knights and I shall have to force you to do so.”

“You have knights?” asked Ginko Fask, if he had paid attention to the threat King Author had made, he wasn’t showing it. “Are you some kind of nobility?”

“Yes…” grumbled King Author, his impatience beginning to show, “I am a king.”

“Oh, you’re a king?!” exclaimed Ginko, “Why did*’t you say so? This calls for a celebration! Fireworks!” As he shouted “fireworks” Ginko released a shower of colorful sparks over Camelot and Seers Village. The sparks fell on the buildings of the village, which immediately burst into flames. King Author stared in disbelief as he noticed that even the stones of his castle were aflame.

“Why you little cretin!” he shouted at Ginko, drawing his sword.

“Uh-oh… time to leave,” gasped Ginko, jumping off the Chaos Elemental and fleeing toward Ardougne.

King Author started to give pursuit, but quickly remembered that the Chaos Elemental was still there, randomly attacking anything it could find. Cursing under his breath, the king turned to aid his knights in their battle against the Chaos Elemental.

Selene sighed. She was once again in a place that she knew she should never be.

She had followed Rose’s directions to finding the village where Orcris lived, but by the time they arrived, the village was nothing more than a burnt husk. She was shocked. Few things could destroy an Elven village so easily. To make matters more confusing, it did*’t seem like the elves had mounted any noticeable defense of their village. She had been pondering how this was possible when Rose had come up to her, laughing. When Rose told Selene that the village had been destroyed by Orcris, the elf had been shocked and horrified. To make matters worse, Rose actually seemed pleased that Orcris had done this, and was talking about how great he was.

That was the last straw for Selene, she had enough of trying to figure the girl out on her own, and Aquaregis hadn’t shown up since they left Varrock. So she had steeled herself and decided to do something she would have otherwise avoided at all costs.

That was why she was now before the ancient temple standing in front of her. It was built in a large cavern far below the ground, and as far as Selene knew, only she and Aquaregis knew of it. She knew of it, because she had followed the mage to this temple twice while trying to figure out what he was up to on various occasions. What she had found upon following him inside was amazing… amazing and dangerous beyond anything else she knew.

Tightening her grip on her naginata, she glanced back at Rose. The blond girl was drawing in the dirt with her fingers. Upon seeing the temple, she had refused to come in with Selene. Not that the elf cared… in fact, Selene was far more relaxed knowing that she wouldn’t have to worry about Rose once she was in the temple. Turning back from Rose, the elf walked into the temple’s darkened entrance. No sooner had she done so, then the halls of the temple were illuminated by small green gems. The light was dim, but it made the halls see-able.

Selene walked through the hallways, following the path she had memorized years before. She had traveled for only a few minutes when the voices started. Voices: that was all she called them. They were disembodied voices, cold and lifeless, which echoed from within the depth of her mind. They called out in warning, telling her to go back, that she shouldn’t be in this place. When she ignored them and pushed onward, they began calling up painful memories of her past, and whispering warnings about the dark future awaiting her should she fail to turn back.

The first time she had entered this temple alone, the voices had been enough to turn her back, but now, after coming in and out several times, she no longer cared for them. After all, they were the weakest of the temple's defenses… speaking of which, she was being confronted by another.

She hissed as she saw them; the Shadows: small wisps of shadow which clung to the walls and floors. She did her best to avoid them, but was unsuccessful and cringed as some brushed past her. Whenever the Shadows touched you, a biting cold stung you where they had touched, and your body filled with an unspeakable terror of something you couldn’t explain. Still, she pushed on until she encountered the Fear.

She knew it by no name other than the Fear, and that title fit. After rounding a corner of the hallway, a person in the temple was confronted with a large room, at the far end of which stood a massive doorway of ebony. The moment you stepped into the room you experienced two strong intuitions. The first was that it felt as if a multitude of eyes watched you from somewhere within the room; observing you while they remained unseen. The second intuition was far stronger; it told you that something terrifying, malicious, and nigh omnipotent sat behind the massive doors, waiting for you to come. As you walked closer to the door, the feeling increased. Selene steeled herself as best she could and walked toward the door. She knew by use of logic that nothing was inside the door, she had come this way enough times to know that, but her feelings and instincts still screamed at her to turn and flee as fast as she could. However, like always, she managed to reach the door, using every ounce of her willpower to force herself to keep moving.

She sighed, and with the last of her willpower, pushed on the massive doors. As always, they opened effortlessly, allowing her into another large room. This room seemed to contain two doors; the one she had come in and one further on. The only problem was that they were separated by a chasm too wide for anyone to cross. Selene sighed. This part of the temple was easy once you had already made the trek once.

Without hesitation, she walked right into the chasm, or rather, that was what she seemed to do. In reality, her feet landed on solid ground. Invisible ground, granted, but solid nonetheless. She walked across the room at a leisure pace, preparing herself for the last challenges which lay ahead. She was soon at the far end of the room, and entering the next.
