“What does that mean?” questioned Liam.

“I’m afraid we don’t have time for me to explain,” answered Gessent, “That statue is recovering its courage and soon will come after you again.”

“You seem powerful, can’t you deal with it?” asked Taika.

“Unfortunately, we Prantiqeth are considered gods as far as the Edicts of Guthix are concerned, so no, I may not deal with it,” Gessent replied, “But, I don’t need to, Liam should have something strong enough to handle it.”

“What?!” questioned Liam, “But I’m not a fighter.”

“Mephos made it very clear to me he was not going to leave you defenseless,” said Gessent, “He gave you a weapon made of a material stronger than dragonite, with it, you could defeat this statue easily.”

“You must be mistaken,” said Liam, “I don’t have such a weapon.”

“You don’t have it, or you don’t know you have it?” questioned Gessent, “I think it is the latter, and thankfully I think I know how to bring the weapon out; a fragment.”

“A fragment?” asked Liam.

“I’ll show you,” said Gessent. As he said this, he lifted his hand toward Liam. There was a flash of light and suddenly, a new person, translucent as if a ghost, stood in the room.

There were several gasps in the room as the group looked at the new person; he bore a striking resemblance to Liam; he was about the same height, with violet eyes and silver white hair. However, the tips of his hair were violet, and his eyes seemed to have a hypnotic effect. He also possessed wings similar to those of a demon, and a tail that also looked like a demon’s tail. He wore pants made of black dragon leather, a vest of the same material under which was a short sleeved shirt made of some violet, silk-like material.

“It’s been a while, hasn’t it, Mephos?” asked Gessent.

“Ah, Gessent, what brings you here, old friend?” asked Mephos.

“Wait, is this Mephos Niddhogg?” asked Orcris.

“Yes and no,* replied Mephos, “I am but a fragment; a snapshot of Mephos’ essence if you will. I have most of his knowledge, but no power of my own, and no will of my own. Despite this, I will act in a way very similar, if not identical to Mephos.”

“This is making less and less sense by the moment,” sighed Taiyama.

“As much as I might love to explain it, it appears this is not the best place,” said Mephos, as he stared at Lucien’s statue, which was now making its way toward the group, “Why did you call me here, Gessent? You know I have no power of my own.”

“True, but maybe you can help Liam,” said Gessent, “The original Mephos left him with the Devil’s Chains, however he doesn’t seem to know how to call them up.”

“The Devil’s Chains?” Mephos mused. Turning to Liam, he said, “They should probably be enough, but you seem fatigued… you haven’t fed recently have you? In that case, it might be dangerous for you…”

“If it will stop that thing, it doesn’t matter what happens to me,” said Liam, “If you can help us, do so.”

“Very well,” said Mephos, “Allow me to borrow your power then.”

Liam nodded, and felt a foreign presence exert force upon him. Moments later several chains made out of a metal which shone brighter than silver appeared before him.

“I assume you need me to control them as well?” asked Mephos.

Liam nodded weakly, it felt to him as if he would pass out any moment now.

Mephos made a quick motion and the chains shot forth, wrapping around the statue and pulling it to the floor.

“It will take too long to destroy this thing with the chains alone,” Mephos commented, “If the fire mage and Khaotix with you would be so kind as to unleash the hottest fire they can at that construct, I would appreciate it.”

“But what if the chains melt or are broken by the heat?” questioned Taika.

Mephos smiled. “I assure you that is impossible, the only thing that can break these chains is THE UNKNOWN himself. Now if you would.”

“Roger!” said Rose, summoning a series of blood red flames.

“Alright then,” agreed Taika, summoning up a series of sigla most of which Orcris realized were the base magic sigla representing fire.

Flames shot from Rose and Taika, and struck the statue. Even from the far end of the room where the group was, the heat seemed more intense than a day in the Kharidian desert.

As the statue melted, a strange symbol appeared on the stone of the Jas, and seemed to shatter in the heat.

“That was the seal used to create that monstrosity,” Mephos informed them, “It won’t be coming back.”

Moments later, the flames died down, leaving only the Stone of Jas and the chains where the statue had been.

“We did it!” Taiyama gasped.

“I’m not so sure,” commented Liam, who was clearly exhausted.

“What do you mean?” asked Taiyama, “The statue is clearly dead or gone, or whatever!”

“Yes, but…” began Liam.

“I cannot speak for Rose,” said Taika, “But what I used was my strongest spell.”

“And it worked!” said Taiyama.

“On the statue, yes,” said Taika, “But have you forgotten what our original mission was?”

“Destroy the Stone of Jas…” replied Taiyama, “Oh…”

“It doesn’t have a scratch on it,” commented Taika, “Even with Rose and I combining our power, we couldn’t even make a scratch… what do you think our odds of actually destroying it are?”

“I’d say they just hit zero!” proclaimed a voice that the group recognized all to well.

A moment later, their fears were confirmed as Lucien teleported into the room. “Well, well, well, I apologize for my delay,” said the mahjarret, “I’m normally a better host, unfortunately, Azzanadra took a while to dispatch.”

“Are you saying you actually defeated Lord Azzanadra?” questioned Hekate.

“Heh heh,” replied Lucien, “He was powerful alright, but no match for a god like myself.*

*A god, huh?” asked Gessent, “Then maybe you’d like to try your godly powers against me?”

Lucien looked Gessent over and scowled, “What’s a Prantiqeth doing here?” he questioned, “I thought you people weren’t allowed to involve yourselves in the affairs of the worlds? Ah, well, no matter, even you cannot defeat me, I have the Stone of Jas.”

“Do you?” asked Liam, smiling.

“Of course, you idiot,” snapped Lucien, “It’s right there, and its unbreakable, so good luck undoing the seal fused to it.”

“Unless the seal were to be unattached from it,” said Liam.

“And how would you do that?” questioned Lucien, “You couldn’t possibly have the power to do that, you’d need to be a god.”

“Ah, but you forget,” said Liam, “The odds of a seal being bound to the Stone are very low.”

“So what?” asked Lucien, “I already checked, the seal is attached, now give up.”

“It might be attached, but supposed I introduced a dice roll, of sorts,” said Liam, “A random selection of one of the countless possibilities involving the Stone.”

“Now you’re confusing even me,” muttered Lucien, “And how would you do that?!”

“Have you forgotten?” questioned Liam. And with this, he pushed Rose so that she fell toward the Stone.

“The child of chaos!* exclaimed Lucien, “Are you insane?!”

As Rose touched the stone, an explosion of color came from it, and everyone in the room felt power flow into them. As this happened a floating symbol of Guthix appeared and shattered into thousands of pieces. And as for the Stone itself, it vanished.

“No!* shouted Lucien, after the explosion had subsided, “What have you done?! Where is my Stone?!”

“Somewhere on Gielinor,” replied Liam, “But I have no idea where. The power of chaos has simply deposited it somewhere randomly, and I doubt it will be found again for a long time.”

“You!” shouted Lucien in a fit of rage, “You ruined my plans! All of you will die here!”

As the mahjarret shouted this, the room was filled with tormented demons, who turned to the group and raised their claws to strike.

“Liam?” asked Seth.

“I know, it’s time,” said Liam. As he said this, Liam’s right eye began to glow golden, and darkness gathered above him. As this happened, the demons seemed to go into a panic, and tried to back away as far as they could from Liam.

“What is this?!” demanded Lucien.

“I’m not a fighter,” said Liam, “But I am a decent summoner, as you will soon see.*

*Whatever you can summon, it’s no match!” shouted Lucien.

“Really?” questioned Liam, “Are you that ignorant?”

As he said this, the darkness took form. What appeared to be a cloud of shadows appeared, from which six wings made of deep violet flames emerged. Within the cloud, a large serpentine creature, covered with glowing orbs that seemed to be eyes, was barely visible.

At the appearance of this creature the tormented demons let out a howl and collapsed to the ground, and lay there, apparently too tired to move. Lucien also seemed shocked.

“My magic,” he said, “Why is my magic gone.”

“This being is known as Raziel the Faithful,” said Liam, “It is of the highest class of the Malakim, the beings diametrically opposed to demons. Whenever, Raziel is present, its power seals away all demonic powers in the area. Your demons are completely impotent now, even a gnome child could kill them, as are you, who relied primarily on demonic powers for your magic.”

“If Liam had a power like this, why did*’t he use it before?” questioned Orcris.

“Such power comes at a price,” replied Seth, “Take a closer look.”

Orcris did so, and noticed Liam seemed to be crying, a moment more and he realized it wasn’t tears that were trickling down from Liam’s eyes, it was blood. And it wasn’t only from his eyes, blood was also flowing from his ears, his nose, his mouth, and even his fingernails.

*What’s happening to him?” questioned Orcris.

“It’s complicated,” replied Seth, “In simple terms, he has to use his own lifeforce to keep Raziel here, as a result, his body is slowly destroyed while doing so.”

Orcris gave Seth a shocked look, but couldn’t think of anything to say.

“No matter!” shouted Lucien, “Even without demon magic, I have the staff of Armadyl! I will strike you done with the power belonging to the god of the skies! No di-”

Lucien was cut off as a black spear impaled him through the back.

“He won’t be dying today,” said Azzanadra, appearing behind Lucien.

“You!” shouted Lucien, “I killed you!”

“You actually fell for it,” commented Azzanadra, “This was all Liam’s plan, to lure you here, and use Raziel’s power to drain you of your power, so that I could finish you. Your plans are over, as is you life. With this, Azzanadra unleashed a ball of light which burned into Lucien, severely damaging his body, and causing him to lose his grip on the Staff of Armadyl, which Daefon quickly dashed over to and picked up. Before he could be finished though, Lucien vanished into black flames.

“He escaped…” mused Azzanadra, “But he will be in poor condition for the ritual… His life is not safe yet.”

Daefon struck the ground with the staff of Armadyl, and the room filled with a bright light. Caught in the light, the tormented demons were quickly reduced to ash.

With the demons and Lucien gone, Liam caused Raziel to leave, and shortly thereafter collapsed. Almost immediately after that, Seth and Hekate where at his side, and the former was wiping blood from Liam’s face.

“Will he be alright?” questioned Orcris.

*I think so,” replied Hekate, “He doesn’t seem to be in danger of death at least.”

“Seth…” muttered Liam, “I’m hungry.”

Orcris sighed, that wasn’t something he had expected to come out of Liam’s mouth while he was in this sort of condition, Taiyama maybe, but Liam seemed more serious than that. However, he went from being exasperated to confused when Seth asked, “Food hungry, or THAT kind of hungry?”

“That kind,” replied Liam.

“Well… I guess I could,” said Seth.

“Absolutely not,* replied Hekate.

“Um, what’s going on here?” asked Orcris, “If he’s hungry, shouldn’t you just feed him.”

“Do you want to feed him?” asked Hekate.

“Sure, why not,* said Orcris. However, he began wondering if he shouldn’t have said that after Hekate gave him a very strange look.

Seth laughed for a moment and leaned over to Hekate to whisper something into her ear. After he had done so, Hekate laughed as well.

“What’s so funny?” asked Orcris.

“You don’t know how incubi feed do you?” asked Hekate.

“Incubi?” repeated Orcris, “No, why, is Liam one of these incubi?”

“He is,” replied Seth, “And that’s why it was funny when you offered to feed him.”

“How do incubi feed then?” asked Orcris.

“Well, there are two ways,” answered Hekate, “The first I won’t mention here, since Liam wouldn’t do it anyway, but the second way is by kissing a person.”

“Wait…” said Orcris, not liking where this was going at all, “So, you’re saying, when I said that I would feed him, you thought that I meant I would…”

“Yep,* said Hekate.

A moment later Orcris was standing as far away as he could from Liam, “Hey look I did*’t know!” he was saying, “And I seriously don’t swing that way, not at all! So I mean, find someone else to feed him, but on no circumstances ask me!”

“Well, what a regular straight guy we have here,” said Hekate, shaking her head in mock disappointment.

“And I’m proud of it!” retorted Orcris.

The doors opened and Usha ran into the room. “How’s Liam?” she questioned. Noticing Orcris, though, she broke into a grin, “Let me guess,” she said, “Liam’s hungry, and you tricked Orcris into saying he would feed him, Hekate?”

“Maybe,” replied the twin.

“And he’s figured out what he unwittingly offered to do and is regretting it,” continued Usha.

“Exactly,” replied Hekate.

At this Usha laughed and turning to Orcris, said, “Don’t worry, I’ll feed him, I am his fiancé after all."

As Usha walked over to Liam to ‘feed’ him. Orcris noticed Azzanadra and Gessent talking in hushed voice at one end of the room. Eventually, Gessent nodded, and teleported away. At another end of the room, Taiyama had just finished talking to Jayson and was now making his way to Orcris. It only took a moment for the half-elf to figure out what had happened.

“Orcris,” Taiyama began.

“You’re leaving us and becoming a Guthixian,” Orcris guessed.

*You knew?* asked Taiyama.

“It wasn’t hard to guess,” replied Orcris, “You never seemed cut out for this… and it seemed to me that you leaned toward balance, so I figured sooner or later it would happen.*

*Sorry,” said Taiyama.

“Hey, you’ve got to be true to your beliefs,” said Orcris, “If you feel you cannot serve Lord Zaros in good faith anymore, you should still call yourself a Zarosian… and I’m sorry too.”

“For what?” asked Taiyama.

“It is likely we’ll end up against each other sooner or later,” answered Orcris, “And when that happens, I won’t hold back. I still consider you a friend though, so I thought I’d apologize now. No hard feelings, no matter who wins in the end, right?”

“Sure,” answered Taiyama, “And thank you.”

After Taiyama had left, Azzanadra made his way to Orcris, with Liam, Seth, Hekate, Usha, and Taika.

As this group reached him, Orcris subconsciously moved so as to put more space between himself and Liam. Although it wasn’t intentional, this movement did*’t go unnoticed by Liam, who seemed slightly hurt by it.

“Taiyama left,” Azzandra observed.

“He did,* confirmed Orcris, “He sides with Guthix now.*

Azzandra nodded to himself before speaking again, “We’re not quite done yet,” he said, “The seals on the Black Pentagram are gone, but that Pentagram is in itself a seal, and must be undone.”

“Shall we set off for the temple?” asked Orcris.

“Not today,” replied Azzanadra, “For now, you all should get some rest, you deserve it after all.”

In a few minutes, Orcris had made it back to his tent. All around him, the troops of the various gods were packing up equipment and getting ready to return to their normal stations. Remarkably, there seemed to be little fighting going on between the various factions, and most of it was just verbal.

Orcris entered his tent and lay down on his cot, planning to think through the day’s events. He was more tired than he thought, though, and soon was fast asleep.

TERMS

Incubic Mazoku: Also referred to as 'incubi' (sing. incubus) (although not to be confused with an incubic demon, which are also refered to as incubi, and are demons associated with sins of the flesh). Incubic mazoku are mazoku who cannot produce 'lifeforce' on their own, and thus must feed off others for it. This is often done through either mating or kissing.

Incubi often have strong telepathic/hypnotic powers which make it easier for them to 'feed.' A common hypnotic power is invoked by reciting the phrase 'Je T'aime' (french: lit. "I like/love you" ) while making eye contact. This causes the target to develop a strong infatuation with the incubus who has done this. Quite often one who has been thus charmed by an incubus will do anything asked of them by said incubus. However, people with strong wills, or who are completely adverse to falling in love with the incubus are able to resist this charm.

Physiologically, incubi tend to be very androgynous, to a point where they can often pass as girls if they desire. They also have minor shapeshifting abilities, allowing them to look like a member of almost any species. For some reason most incubi have eyes that are some shade of purple or pink (although there are notable exceptions.)

An Incubus' saliva has an odd chemical composition that causes mild pleasure when it comes in contact with a person's skin, if it is swallowed or makes it into the bloodstream, it is said to have an aphrodisiacal effect.

Incubi also are said to instinctively understand the nervous systems of most sentients, and due to this are capable of causing immense pain or pleasure for sentients.

In the thriving Muspellheim slave trade, incubi are highly valued for a mix of their looks, skill at causing pleasure, and their often obedient and pliable natures.

Amongst the mazoku, there is a female conterpart to the incubus; the succubus. Succubi often possess all the skills of an incubus, but tend to be more strong-willed and aggressive.
