That was abrupt Chugoo... any particular reason? "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."

Seth opened his eyes and looked around. He was in a room made of polished grey stone. The room held several pillars and, more surprisingly, a dark grey cube which floated over a large hole in the center of the room. As he looked around, Seth noticed Selene slumped up against the wall, apparently unconscious. A little bit later, he noticed Aquaregis, lying on the ground a little ways from the large hole. The mage’s eyes were opened, but he seemed unable to move.

“You used too much magic, did*’t you?” Seth asked, walking over to Aquaregis.

“It seems that way,” replied Aquaregis, “Summoning Charon wasn’t easy.”

“I suppose not,* commented Seth, “But I’m impressed, Selene is stronger than I thought, most people would have instantly passed out once Charon was summoned. She stayed awake until we were almost here.

Anyway, you’ll need some magic infused to keep that body functioning, won’t you?”

Aquaregis smiled weakly, “I’m hoping that the new prototype won’t be so dependent, but so far, I’ve had little luck. Oh, and… I did*’t get the chance to apologize earlier.”

“What for?” asked Seth.

“Letting myself get hit with fiend poison… one of the few things that can kill me while I’m using one of these.”

“You did*’t know that your enemy had a fiend with poison did you?” asked Seth. Aquaregis shook his head, “Then don’t worry about it. Instead, let’s try to figure out where we can get some magic to recharge that crystal of yours. I’d rather not have to answer Selene’s questions about where you went.”

“Selene recently summoned Erebos,” Aquaregis commented, “Any crystals she has with her likely have darkness magic in them.”

“So we just need to borrow some crystals from her?” asked Seth, “Easy enough.”

“We could probably use her naginata,” said Aquaregis, “Could you bring it over here for me?”

“Sure,” replied Seth, walking over to Selene’s naginata which lay several feet away from the unconscious elf. Seth picked it up and returned to Aquaregis, who stretched his hand toward it. As he did so, a dark violet lightning sprayed from the naginata and entered Aquaregis' hand. A few moments passed before the lightning stopped.

“Was that enough?” asked Seth.

“As long as I don’t use any powerful spells,” replied Aquaregis, standing up, “Now, we should probably wake Selene up…”

“No need,” commented Selene, opening her eyes.

“How long have you been awake?” asked Aquaregis.

“For the last few seconds,” replied Selene, “Now, time for you to answer my questions; first, what happened to us? And second, where in Seren’s name are we?”

“Well,” said Aquaregis, “I used a spell that allowed us to, in a sense, merge with all the power that was released when the threads of fate were destroyed, and ‘ride’ it here. And as for where we are… If I am correct, we are in the inner sanctum of the temple belonging to Ananke, goddess of order. Speaking of which, we should probably leave before-”

“I notice that you’re here?” a stoic voice interrupted.

Following the voice, the floating cube in the center of the room formed itself into a gate, from which a lady emerged. She was tall, with pale skin and flowing silver-white hair, her eyes where dark grey and seemed to pierce through anything she looked at, and She was garbed in a dark grey dress laced with black and bearing artificial roses.

“Selene, Seth, and Aquaregis,” she said, looking upon the people before her, “What brings you here after failing to protect MY Threads of Fate?”

“Your threads?” asked Selene, “Who are you anyway?”

“Such insolence,” said the lady, “Yet I shall assume it is only due to your ignorance. You mortals know me as Ananke, goddess of order and fate. Now answer my question.”

“We arrived by riding the stream of power after the Threads were destroyed, your Excellency,” replied Aquaregis, “It was the only way to escape certain death.”

“I see,* commented the goddess, “I suppose it could not be helped. I am still disappointed at that spectacular failure you three had trying to protect the Threads; now I will have to send my followers after the Winds of Change.”

“With respect, exulted goddess,” said Seth, “You must not do that. If the Winds are destroyed, Zaros and his kin will be closer to being released.”

“Yet it will not necessarily release them,” replied the goddess, “But even if it were a guarantee of Zaros’ release, I would still go through with it. Better to release the demons of long ago than to allow the abomination that is chaos tip the scales of balance irreversibly in its favor.”

“You must reconsider!” protested Seth.

“Even should I reconsider,” replied Ananke, “The gods of Gielinor would see to it themselves. Already, I sense the followers of Guthix, Saradomin, and Armadyl gathering south of the wilderness, preparing to launch an attack at the temple holding the Winds. My troops will join them, and together, we shall see to the destruction of the abdominal instrument of chaos.”

“But-” began Seth.

“No,* said Ananke, “I will not hear arguments against what I have decided. I will allow the three of you to leave my temple unharmed this time, but do not return. That is all.”

With this the goddess vanished, and the gate returned to being a cube.

“She’s worse than the god of darkness,” muttered Selene.

“That may be,” agreed Aquaregis, “But we have to hurry, time is of the essence if we wish to stop Zaros. Once we’re out of this temple I should be able to teleport again. From there, we will join with the forces that Bandos and Zamorak will inevitably send to guard the Winds of Change.”

“Well, look what we have here.”

Iban looked up and found himself staring at the faces of several gruff warriors, all wearing rune armor.

“You’re Zamorakians, aren’t you?” asked one of the warriors.

“Out of my way, maggot,” Iban replied, *I don’t have time for you.”

“Why you insolent little…” muttered the warrior.

“I wouldn’t bother messing with him,” commented Soul, as he nibbled on a chocolate bar, “He’s been in a bad mood recently.”

“Big deal!” shouted the warrior, “We, the Rune Blade clan will kill you and claim the bounty the white knights have placed on the heads of Zamorakians.”

“Your funeral,” sighed Soul, *You want to handle all these too, Iban?”

“Of course,” replied Iban, drawing his sword.

“Ha,” commented the apparent leader of the warriors, “You think you can match us with black armor and an old sword like that. You won’t last three sec-*

The speaker was cut off as Iban’s blade cut through his skull.

“The boss!* exclaimed another of the warriors, “You’ll pay for that you Zamorakian cur!”

The warrior dashed forward, slashing into Iban only to have his sword bounce away as if it had hit stone. With a sadistic glint in his eye, Iban knocked off the warrior’s helmet and grabbed his head, squeezing with such force that the warrior’s head was crushed in a fountain of blood.

“Wh-what is he?” asked one of the remaining warriors, trembling in fear.

“I sense Zamorak’s unholy power wrapping around him,” commented a monk who was with the warriors, “It appears his prayers have gained him the blessings of the foul god.”

“What?” asked the warrior, right before a throwing axe sunk into his skull.

Seeing how easily their comrades had been disposed of, the rest of the warriors turned to flee, but were unable to evade Iban’s throwing axes, and were quickly reduced to corpses.

Having killed off the opposing warriors, Iban approached the monk who had been with them.

“Wait,” said the monk, “I am but a simple monk, not a warrior, I pose no threat.”

“Of course you don’t,” said Iban with a crazed smile on his face, “But you’re one of Saradomin’s monks…”

“No, don’t!” shouted the monk as Iban slashed downward with his sword, cleaving the monk’s body in two.

“Wow, you’re brutal,” commented Soul as Iban burned the bodies as a sacrifice to Zamorak, “I see why so many of your fellow Kinshra are frightened of you.”

“They’re mostly fools,” commented Iban.

“What makes you say that?” questioned Soul.

*They adhere to “honor” and “chivalry”,” replied Iban, “As if those two were worth something.”

“A person needs to have values,” observed Soul, “What do you fight for, Iban?”

“Power,” the Kinshra replied, “Absolute power* that of the gods.”

“Power*” said Soul, “What would you do with all that power, Iban?”

Iban looked at Soul with an expression that made the other Zamorakian’s blood run cold.

“Forget I asked,” Soul said quickly, “Anyway, I wish we had more luck finding this “child of chaos.” She seems to be able to appear just about anywhere, and disappear just as easily.”

“I agree,” muttered Iban, “This search is taking too long for my taste, and…” the Kinshra trailed off as he noticed a blood red hawk circling above. Aware that it had been noticed, the hawk circled downward and landed on Iban’s arm. Noticing a letter on the bird’s leg, Iban removed and unfolded it. He read it through once, had a look of shock cross his face, and read through it again.

“What is it?” asked Soul.

“We’ve been reassigned,” replied Iban, “As apparently the bulk of Zamorak’s forces have been.”

“Reassigned?” asked Soul, *To what?”

“Apparently to a temple hidden in the far north of the wilderness,” answered Iban, “Apparently, something really big is happening.”

“Well, better than this wild goose chase,” sighed Soul, *Let’s go.”
