Chapter 1: Listen to the Rain

Outside the busy and simmering environment of the Imperial Palace of Governanti, the sun had taken its daily trip back within the hold of the earth. Its departure had now brought the darkness of the night to come forth. The candle in the darkness shined a dim, silver light upon the stone face of the world. A brew of clouds gathered to the west, a troublesome storm approached.

In front of a small wooden shack just outside the city walls, the young silver haired Raphael Béla stood. He sought refuge after a long day of battling words and battling his temptation. The wooden shack was about twenty feet wide and about fourteen feet high. The outside of the shack was rather poor looking, it had seen better days.

There were two windows at the front, both of which were at least partial broken. He stood in front of the shack, his hand placed firmly onto the door's handle. He closed his eyes and sighed, pushing the door open. His purple irises looked out towards the small wooden space around. With the light of the moon behind him, he appeared like a silhouette to the wooden face.

To his right was his kitchen, a wooden table to his northeast had a couple of plates stacked on top of each other. Just beside the table's right was a small sink that looked like a miniature bird bath. There was a wooden cabinet to the table's left. To his left was just a small single sized bed with sheets neatly wrapped around it like a Christmas present.

A small pillow was on the bed, topping it like a crown. The bed was at the northwestern corner up against the wall. There was a small drawer just beside his bed that was just the same height of the bed. The floor for the entire building was cased in wood that was buckled in a few spots. In the center of the house was a majorelle blue carpet with the symbol of the lion in the center of it.

The moonlight beamed at the carpet, gazing at the lion symbol in the center. Raphael looked down at it as he entered the house, slowly closing the door behind him as he did. He then turned his head to his left and looked at his bed. He began to unbutton his long-sleeved coat, moving his body closer to his bed with slow, silent footsteps. He was drawn to the cotton-sheeted bed like a moth to a flame.

He pulled his jacket off of him as his bed's beckon drew him closer and closer. He began to orderly fold his coat, placing it on top of the drawer. He began to untie his sword from his waist, pulling the string undone. He pulled the blade away from him and placed it beside his bed. It stood against the northern wall in between his drawer and his bed.

He sat down on the torso of his bed, his purple irises gazing blankly at the wooden floorboards. His pale skinned hands reached down to the tops of his dark gray leather boots. They clenched tightly onto them, pulling them off of his feet. One by one, his boots quickly latched off of his legs. He laid them just in front of his drawer.

He slid his lower body smoothly on top of the rough cushion that was his bed. He laid his head back into the cotton hand, his hair sandwiched between the back of his head and his pillow. He laid there on his back in silence, his face looking apathetically up at the ceiling. The ceiling was just as bad as the floorboards, pieces of wood were dangled while there were just holes where wood once covered.

The silver light shined into Raphael's shack without rest. His thoughts ran faster than a bullet train but it wasn't the moon's light that took control of his mind. It was that uneasiness that he felt just as he felt the king's sight. What was it? He only had himself to search for the answer in a vast forest of uncertainty. Within an hour of the search, his vision slipped into black as his eyes close shut. His thoughts slowly became silence.

The time had come and gone, the night had grown tired of staring down at the sleeping people. The darkness took its own odyssey to the Land of Nod. The brightest star came up from the ground to greet the room of stone toys and tiny figures. It brought down its warmth upon this cool autumn morning. But an army of nimbus clouds began to charge towards the sun.

The sky was painted with two sides, one side with a bright, clear sky and another side with a dark, gray storm brewing. It was however a semi-pleasant morning at around 8 am. Within the city of Governanti, the everyday gods did business and ran their shops just like any other day. They talked, laughed, and did their daily routine.

Raphael was walking amongst the crowded market district which was at the heart of the city. It was his only way to get to the Imperial Palace, the crown jewel of the city. He walked slowly, sailing himself through an ocean of bodies. However this ocean of bodies had a glare, a glare of glowing eyes. Each god he passed had to give him a stab with their eyes, their cold and hateful eyes.

They all whispered to each other like it was a casual event. They spoke ill of Raphael who came their way. Two gods were doing business, their hands held tightly onto bags of gold coins. Their eyes were suddenly stripped off of their dealings when they saw the human passing by. "Ugh, look," growled one of the gods. "It's that filth again."

The other god had a disgusted look on his face. "I know," he angrily mumbled back. "I just don't understand how the king can just let that trash walk merrily on our land." Raphael continued walking through the crowd with patience and calm. His ears caught the sounds of restless murmurs from all around him. Whenever he looked, the resentful stares of glowing eyes never ceased.

Raphael ignored the gazes and continued to focus on the here and now. He came out of the sea of people and onto the shore of stone. The gates to the Imperial Palace of Governanti were just before him. He walked up to the crystal-like gates that surrounded the castle and up to the entrance.

Two knights stood beside the gates. They were encased in steel plate armour from head to toe and held a long rod made of magic tree wood in their hand nearest to the gate. On top of the rod was the same majorelle blue banner which is a long cloth that goes down in the shape of a blade. In the center top of the banner was the same crest of a lion with wings. At the very top of the rod was the head of a spear in the shape of a feather.

Their heads were encased in a steel burgonet, their entire body was encased in the same steel plate armour. They stood tall and straight, their legs were glued to each other. Their free arm was stuck to their side while the arm that held the banner was stuck to the face of the gate. Their faces were a stern mask, their eyes poked into the crowd of gods like the jab of a knife.

Raphael approached the two knights, his hands folded behind his back. "Good morning, knights," he gleefully greeted. His upper body fell forward, bowing to the knights in respect.

One of the knights turned his eye's focus onto the silver haired young man in front of him. A smile overcame the routine stern face. His eyes became brighter than the sun. "Ah, good morning, Raphael," the knight replied. "Ready to start the day?"

Raphael reeled himself back, standing perfectly straight. With a confident smile, he quickly shook his head. "Yes,"

The knight clenched the hand of the crystal gate, pulling the door open. Raphael pulled his focus onto the pathway in front of him. He took his first step onto the grounds of the Imperial Palace. The gates close shut behind him as his feet swiftly marched into the surrounds of the superior beings. Unbeknownst to Raphael, however... a pair of eyes shot daggers down at him.

Up several floors from the ground level was the room of wooden walls and portraits of something truly precious to the one in the room. His gorgeous sapphire blue irises spewed intense ire down upon that human. His body faced the wall of glass as he looked down out into the world. But his eyes were so focused on Raphael that it was like seeing an eagle watching over its prey.

The waters of heartless emotions rushed down the hills of Balor's heart, making him quake with fury. While his anger simmered at the surface, his face remained composed and calm. "This is the fool he wants to be king," the prince growled, his anger hidden under the sheet of words. He shook his head in disapproval, annoyed by this acknowledgement. "Ridiculous."

Behind Balor was a man sitting at the table of mahogany wood. His hair was dark gray, about mid-neck length, and gelled back. His eyes were Azure blue and had a glow to them. He wore an orange doublet underneath a violet red justacorps which went down to about his knees. The end of his sleeves were frilled. Around his neck he wore a white cravat.

For his pants he wore violet red breeches which went down to just below his knees. To cover the rest of his legs, he wore white stockings and violet red leather boots that are about mid-calf. He sat there, his face a tempered mask. His legs were crossed and his arms tied up like a pretzel. "It would be treason to let that human become king," he angrily commented. "So... what are you going to do, sire?"

Balor stood in front of the window with his hands behind his back. He stared at his own reflection just as Raphael left his sight. He closed his eyes and drew in the breath of life. "Exactly what I need to do," he softly mumbled.

The man gulped saliva hard down his esophagus as he thought nervously. "By that, you mean...?" the gentleman carefully spoke.

Balor closed his eyes, his face remained relaxed as he exhaled the air in his lungs. "Is that something you need to know, Lanius?" Balor quickly questioned.

Shocked by his prince's reply, Lanius jumped out of his seat. "Sire," Lanius continued. "I just wish for you to—"

Balor opened his eyes, his vision still gazing out into the open world. "If I wanted your opinion, wouldn't I ask for it?" he quickly riposted. "I suggest you leave."

Lanius quickly shook his head and made his way out of Balor's presence as fast as he could. He pulled the room open and exited the room while shutting the door as he left. Balor turned around, facing the wall with the door. " Don't take me for a fool, Lanius, " he quickly thought. " I knew exactly what you were up to. "

Balor's feet took several steps, they went closer and closer towards a portrait of the black haired woman. "My dear Lucia," he softly spoke, he faced just a foot from the portrait. It was a painting of the woman that was in every portrait in his room. In the portrait, which was a headshot she wore a gleeful smile on her face. Her face was like the face of an angel. He placed his left hand onto the right side of the painting. "Soon... we will correct this world and bring forth a perfect one."

Four hours came and went without warning and the concoction of nimbus clouds from the west had finally arrived to claim the city of Governanti. With it, a stampede of cold rain came crashing onto the faces of the superior beings all around. The world outside was simply gray and dark, puddles of paradise for the falling droplets covered much of the ground.

Inside the castle of the city, the Ruler's Counsel as well as the King sat down around the wooden table just as they did the day before. Unlike yesterday, Raphael was more in focus. The other council members sat with him and Divus was in his chair. Another thing unlike yesterday, Balor was not present.

This brought a curiosity in King Divus. But he realized that there is business he must attend to. Raphael was sitting on top of the wooden chair at the bottom right of the table. To his right was the man that spoke to Balor four hours earlier, Lanius Delmos. To his left was the very stone-faced looking man at the bottom chair, the king's brother Momus Barn.

Raphael seemed calm and composed. But deep within him, that uneasy feeling that ripped into him the minute he walked out of the king's presence yesterday. It reemerged the very second he woke up during the radiant star's rise. Underneath the wooden table, he twiddled his thumbs. His mind was focused yet so distracted.

Divus folded his hands together and placed them onto the face of the wooden table. His eyes peered out to his council. His eyes looked to each of them as if he were searching for something. "Is everyone ready to discuss today's issues?" King Divus asked his council.

Momus stood up from his chair, then turned to his king and bowed. "Yes, sire," his brother respectfully answered. His body recoiled from its bowed position and stood up straight. In his left hand was a sheet of paper folded into a small square. He pulled the folded paper up in front of him and began to unfold it. Within seconds, the paper's words were revealed to Momus. "The first order of business is regarding the possibility of the Resistance being within our walls."

Raphael's eyes stared out into the window, out to the rainy world outside. His thoughts were wrapped around uneasy's finger. " Just what is my problem? " he thought to himself.

The king's eyes rolled over to Raphael. He once again saw the very same distracted Raphael from yesterday, concerning the king very greatly. Momus sat back in his chair as he readied to share his opinion. "I believe the threat to be slim at best." Momus believed. "Afterall, that would be like throwing a goblin into a cage with a black dragon."

Lanius turned his head to Momus. "I'd have to agree with Momus," he stated, shaking his head in correspondence. "The Lumbridge Resistance is too... impuissant to do something that bold."

Regardless of anything said, Divus' eyes never let go of Raphael. Raphael's entire body shook intensely, he was without control over it. "What do you think, Raphael?" he asked. A sudden silence cascaded in the air of the room. Raphael seemed like his mind wasn't even there. The Ruler's Counsel members were a mixed bag of reactions, some were intrigued and a wee bit curious while others were infuriated by Raphael's blatant ignorance.

The king didn't seem impatient in the slightest. Rather he became more concern with each passing second, hearing the rattling of Raphael's chair. "Raphael!" the king shouted. His mind snapped back into reality as if an exclamation mark went off in his head. His head shuffled all over the place until it rested when his eyes looked at the king. The king stood onto his feet, slowly coming out from his chair. "Ten minute recess."

All of the Ruler's Counsel except Raphael rose from their chairs. They whispered words of fury as their eyes stared down with evil upon the human. They began walking out of the room as soon as they got up. As soon as the door closed behind them, Divus began walking over to Raphael. "What is going on with you, Raphael?" he asked, his voice spoke his worry.

Raphael rubbed the back of his head with his left hand. "Uh, nothing really..." Raphael quietly mumbled.

Divus stood at the oppose end of the table. He shook his head, not believing what Raphael has said. "I find that hard to believe," Divus returned. "It isn't everyday that a somebody trembles so greatly that their chair joins in. Is something on your mind, Raphael?"

"Uh, well sire," the silver haired young man replied. "Yes, something's been bothering me."

"Then let me offer my wisdom to you so that you may defeat these uncertainties." he suggested.

Raphael shook his head. "I don't know why but..." he mumbled, his voice sounded reluctant to tell. "I just feel so uneasy, so incredibly apprehensive. My heart is pounding and I'm shaking like crazy... and I don't know the reason for it."

Divus walked over to Raphael, placing his hand onto his shoulder. He felt the quivering run up his arm. "You need to rest, get things straightened out." he advised. "Go home, child. Return here whenever you feel that you can."

Raphael drew in breath into his lungs, releasing it back into the atmosphere. "That may be what I need," Raphael mumbled to himself. He shook his head as he began to stand up from his chair. Divus removed his hand from Raphael's shoulder. He turned to face the king eye-to-eye, bowing his head to his king. "Thank you for everything, Your Highness."

"You needn't thank me, just get yourself home."

Raphael shook his head. "All right," he acknowledged, walking himself to the door at the south of the room. "I'll be in tomorrow."

Divus shook his head. "Take all the time you need to figure things out." the king said.

Raphael once again bowed to the king. "Take care, Your Highness," the young man said softly. "And have a good day."
