The slaughters that had taken place in Ardougne and Falador were a dress rehearsal compared to what took place against the Wilderness Wall.

“Come to my aid!!” cried John, yelling over the deafening clamor of voices, “I am almost overcome!”

Martin and Julia turned and ran to him, and saved him from being crushed by three tormented demons.

The hobgoblins were climbing up the walls like monkeys, and the archers were being taken down. The void knights were fighting valorously, using their heavy weapons to smash down anything that came in their path.

The Knights of the Round table could be said to fight like demons, so furious was their assault. They mowed through enemy lines like logs across wheat, killing what seemed to be ten enemies a second.

The members of the Champion’s, Heroes’, and Legend’s Guilds also fought with great vigor. On the fronts where these men fought, the enemy rarely broke through.

The Tzhaar were the most effective of all the allies Gregory obtained. Only the enemy mages and tormented demons could hurt them, and even these had great difficulty doing so.

However, the enemy was just too great. Although Gregory’s side had killed four for every one lost, the enemy had so many numbers that it seemed impossible to win. The Mahjarrat had also entered the battle, focusing on the Tzhaar and ripping them to shreds of obsidian.

Defeat seemed certain, and it must come within an hour or so. As Merlin looked out across the field of battle, he suddenly realized something. The four Mahjarrat had run back out of range of the battle, and were speaking. Suddenly, they all teleported.

Merlin looked with disbelief, and a moment later, he felt a sinking feeling. The power given to him by Gregory had suddenly vanished, and he was ordinary Merlin once again.

There now THREE chapters... you can't say I'm not generous...

There are only two chapters left, in which the end finally comes!

Will it end in glory? Or tragedy? Will Guthix finally make his claim upon Gregory's life, even after he has fought Lucien's forces to the death?

"*It is all right, just rest and don’t wake up.”

Gregory opened his eyes."
Heh, I loved that. Oh, look at that, Pyrrhic defeat, it's nice to see that phrase every now and then, as it's rare that I do see it at all.

It's a bit strange that, despite the hardcode fights and mass loss of life, your characters say "hello how are you doing?" to one another. During stress like that I'd imagine pleasantries to be minimal, but that's just me, so no worries.

I always wondered what would happen if RuneScape was destroyed. What would the villains accomplish in the long-run? Guess they'd end up fulfilling their revenge and go back to Freneskae or something. I was always interested in that subject because it's a rare thing to find in literature and it has great variables.

Anyways, I like the large numbers of combatants, but also the variety of Gregory's side; men to Tzhaar, Elves to undead. There should be more of that, but it's rare. Even as early as Tolkien, and earlier, it's often 'the nice good guys against the ugly, no-good, angry bad guys/orcs/undead/evil/etc.', but oh well, I guess creativity takes time.

Well, that's it so far. Just two chapters to go, hm? Feels like just a few days ago since I reviewed the story. It's a shame that real full-length stories don't get much readers. It seems that the only stories that get consistent praises are about nothing but short-term elements, basis description, predictable scenes, and not much else. Compared to the era of 2007-9, the stories of RuneScape, by limited authors such as you and me and few others, had an increase of complexity, long-term themes, and general scenes with a focus on what you cannot see in-game -- and guess what -- They don't get many readers at all.

Oh well, I suppose that just means the minority of true artists are just that, a minority. In that case I'd rather be part of the minority.
Look at me babble. I just didn't want to be useless. Time for waiting now.

Haha, thanks for your post.

I enjoy bringing back to my stories phrases which have fallen out of use, but are still full of meaning.

I really enjoyed writing out the setting and scales for the battle. It was quite fun. However, the battle ends far more dramatically then it begins.

It is really too bad that so few people are willing to actually take the time to sit down and read a full-length story.

Oh well...

The next chapters will come in a few days.

Chapter XXXXIV

Gregory closely followed the black knight, and whispered threats in his ear if he did not cooperate.

The knight led Gregory to an empty corridor, and opened a panel on the floor. It led down to a door.

“Go through the door, and on the other side is the Stone.”

“Very good. After the war, I will reward you.”

Gregory walked down, and tested to door. It was locked. A simple unlocking spell fixed that, and as he passed through the guard placed the panel back in place.

Gregory walked through a short tunnel, and as he reached the end he saw ahead of him a massive chamber, and the Stone of Jas standing at the other end on a new plinth. It looked duller, overused, but still the same. Gregory broke into a run, and charged the long distance of about a hundred yards to the end of the chamber. As he came within about five feet of it, he stopped.

He could feel its power, but there was something foreboding. What was...

“Gregory. You have come just on time!”

Gregory whipped around, and only about twenty feet behind him were all four Mahjarrat, with spells charged and ready to cast.

“On the contrary, Lucien, I believe I came at just the wrong time... for you. You were all set to have a petty victory at the Wilderness wall, and gradually take over the world, but you are so ignorant! Don’t you see how easy it would be for me to escape, and constantly hamper your progress?” As Gregory spoke, he slowly backed toward the Stone of Jas.

“I have all the cards, my friends. You cannot catch me, or force me, or kill me. I will always escape, and be there to slow you down. And besides, I won’t need to do all the work, because I even know which one of you is ready to betray the others...” Gregory smiled, taking on a knowing attitude, making the Mahjarrat shift uncomfortably.

As he spoke, he began putting ideas into the heads of the Mahjarrat.

“I just know that Zemouregal is planning something,” thought Lucien, “and I can’t let him.

Hazeel thought, “Khazard is getting too self confident, I have to stop him.”

“Lucien has been in command too long. It is time for me to take control,” thought Zemouregal.

As Gregory saw the Mahjarrat’s heads bowing down in thought, he quickly stepped back, touched the Stone of Jas, and summoned fifty warriors in gleaming armour behind the Mahjarrat.

*Ahh, it has been too long since I have tasted the power of the Stone, Lucien, and I like it!”

As the Mahjarrat woke from their thoughts, Gregory froze all four of them with a spell, and the fifty summoned warriors charged forward.

They cast their charged spells, and the fight began. Gregory cast spell after spell, and guarded the Stone of Jas, not permitting any of them to touch it. The four Mahjarrat began summoning creatures of their own, and of many types.

Gregory pulled out his swords and began hacking away at the creatures attacking him, and he fought like he never had before.

“You will never take my Stone from me!!” screeched Lucien, as he attacked Gregory again.

Gregory was frozen, and as the Staff of Armadyl was raised again to suck his blood out, there was a cry.

Seemingly out of nowhere, another Mahjarrat came. He looked much the same as the others, and he cast a spell at Lucien.

“Azzandra! It is wonderful to have your aid!”

Azzandra made not a sound, but continued fighting. Gregory fought on himself, and permitted Azzandra to use the Stone.

Suddenly, Khazard turned on Lucien, Zemouregal on Hazeel, and Hazeel on Khazard. They fought amongst themselves, and Lucien was left alone to face Azzandra and Gregory. Gregory looked Azzandra in the eye, and they both charged a spell against Lucien. As Gregory cast his spell, he felt a crushingly painful stroke from behind him.

Azzandra had betrayed him!

Azzandra began casting a barrage of spells at an incredible speed, giving Gregory more pain then he had ever felt before. Getting on his feet, he touched a sword to the Stone of Jas, then swung it at Azzandra. It had a greater effect then he expected.

Azzandra let out such a shriek of pain that it deafened Gregory’s ears. He flew into the air and landed in pain on the ground, thirty feet away. Gregory turned his attention to Lucien and the battle raged on.

Thirty minutes later, Hazeel had fled, Zemouregal was barely fighting, and Lucien was leaning on a pillar. Gregory had failed to continue guarding the Stone of Jas, and everyone in the room had touched it at some time or other. Battle was still hot, when Gregory made the final move.

He put both hands on the Stone, and teleported away with it.

He had not been able to do this earlier, as Lucien had put a very powerful teleblocking spell on it, making it impossible to move from its place. But over the course of the battle, Gregory had weakened the spell little by little, and finally it had been weakened enough for Gregory to teleport the Stone.

But was he in time?

The battle was roaring, and the wall was almost taken. Sylvia, Mathew, Julia, and Bob were killed. Almost all of the Knights of the Round Table were in a tent with terrible wounds, and three quarters of Gregory’s force was killed or wounded. The enemy still had three hundred thousand troops left, and the remaining defending forces were exhausted.

“Robert!” cried Sarah, “Defend that part of the wall, there are demons coming up it!”

The roar of creatures crying out was still so loud that individual voices could not be easily heard. The field was covered in blood.

Martin was still valorously chopping the enemy to pieces. He swung, ducked, jumped, and stabbed as quickly and efficiently as a spider, but his energy was almost gone.

The Tzhaar never grow tired, and when the Mahjarrat left there was very few enemies left that could touch them. They still plowed through enemy formations, and killed thousands by the minute.

But the battle was soon to be lost. The enemy was just swarming over the wall, when a massive voice cried out, “Go, creatures of Lucien, your master is defeated!”

There was an earthquake, and storm clouds swarmed above. A vortex appeared above the enemy army, and the thick clouds began to swirl around one point. Lightning fell, and hail began to crash down upon the enemy. John, looking out from the wall, saw a point of light fall from the center of the vortex. The point of light was so bright he could not look at it directly, for it shined as brightly as the sun.

As a matter of fact, the entire enemy army and everyone else on the battlefield stopped whatever they were doing, and turned to look at that speck, for there was some kind of enchantment in it.

It fell hard and fast, and the instant it touched the ground, there was a tremor, a groan, and a crash. A shockwave went outward through the ground, sending everyone off their feet.

Then... an explosion so great ensued, that it was as if that tiny little spec of light suddenly increased in volume by the factor of a trillion, without losing its density.

And then... it was over.

I know, it's only one chapter, but I might as well spread it out a bit, seeing as the last chapter is all that's left...
