Chapter XXVI

Lucien spent two whole weeks making a force to attack Gregory. Because of his use of the Stone, Lucien was able to make about 460,000 undead monsters, tormented demons, undead dragons, and many other creatures. He had 4600 captains and 230 generals, each of which were fearsome tormented demons up to 35 feet tall. These generals were very intelligent, and Lucien considered it quite possible that they could outsmart Gregory.

But Gregory had his own plans. He knew that this attack would be a massive one, so he placed many defensive measures. His first move was to fill several miles around his citadel with puddles of pitch. This would be easily lit when a tormented demon stepped in it, and since there were about 8000 places with puddles of oil, it would make all of Lucien’s forces nervous as soon as they realized they could be burnt to a crisp when they stepped on a certain area.

Another thing that Gregory was to make undermines underneath the area where Lucien’s forces would step. With the help of his undead servants, he made it so that he could destroy an area underneath his enemies at will, causing them to fall to their death. He filled the sinkholes underneath the ground with heavily poisoned water, to kill creatures that fell in.

He also placed wooden stakes in rings around the walls, which would stab the demons if they walked into them, and force Lucien’s forces to slow down in order to take away the stakes. There were about 25 rings of stakes around the tower.

His last measure was to create invisible portals all around his citadel, filling the entire area 15 miles in radius. Then, when he got a chance, he would be able to send forces to flank and attack Lucien’s forces through the portals. He did this all openly, except for the portals and the undermine. He was ready... or at least he thought he was.

The attack had come. Gregory was seated on his throne, with his entire citadel manned and all his forces underneath the citadel just waiting for the order to jump through the portals. Gregory was looking in every direction, viewing the massive force displayed. Lucien’s army was so massive that he could not see the end of them clearly, and the nearest forces were only about 7 miles away. He was so high in his tower that he could see about 28 miles into the distance. The darkness of the wilderness was bearing down, and Gregory could see Lucien casting a shadow spell to make it even darker.

The forces were marching forward at a walk, but were still going very briskly. Each creature was armoured fully, and the captains and generals were so heavily armoured it was amazing to see that they could still walk. Gregory prepared a huge spell to cast all around. One of the things he had discovered in his experiments with the tower is that he could make an orb of power grow in the center of the four turrets, and then release it when he wished. When released, he could fire it in any direction, or all directions. He was now doing just that; charging it continuously in preparation for when the enemy troops came in range.

Ten minutes later, the enemy troops were finally within firing range, and Gregory ordered all of his long-ranged troops in the tower, the mages and rangers, to begin firing at will. He wanted the attacks to be a constant and never ending barrage of bursting magic and dragon arrows. When the surge of arrows and wave of glowing magic power started flying towards Lucien’s army, they all seemed to hesitate, but on a further order from the generals they continued their dread march.

“Zemouregal! Lucien calls. He is putting the assault on Gregory’s tower, and it appears the Gregory has hundreds of thousands, not just thousands, of troops guarding it. We fear that we will fail, and if we do then it will be the end. Lucien will be chased down and destroyed by Gregory, and then you will follow, along with all the other Mahjarrat.”

“Truly? Very well then, my army of zombies will attack, and I will attack as well. I better be rewarded for this...”

“Sir Lancelot, we will be nearing the fortress of our friend soon. I have been intending to speak to him about the occurrences of the past months, and must consult him.”

“Very well Merlin. I am glad we brought fifteen knights, for I would hate to have you ambushed and killed out here by wandering zombies or the like.”

“You have very little confidence in my abilities. Come now, the citadel will be in sight just over this rise. Ah, there it... What is happening! It is under siege!! He is under attack!!!”

The knights drew their weapons, with full intent of charging right across those several miles of wilderness and throwing themselves bodily on the backs of the monsters.

“Hold! There is no reason to throw away your lives needlessly. If we attack, we should do it in a way that we can easily make our way to the citadel and join forces with Greogry.”

Gregory, noticing that in the distance there was a glint of steel and a flash of a magical staff, looked closer and said,

“Demon, go through a portal and meet with the knights and Merlin over there. Have them come through a portal and meet me here.”

The demon stepped through the portal, causing them to jump in fright and step back.

“My massster has orrrdered me to speeeak with you.” The demon stated in a deep rumble. “Heeere is the portal. Sssstep through and you will meeeeeeet him.” The demon himself stepped through the portal and the knights followed.

“Ah! My friends! Is this not a nice day to be fighting?” said Gregory with seemingly jovial cordiality.

“How can you be happy? You are under siege by a massive force, and could easily be destroyed.”

“That is what you are here for. You will help me fight them if they ever make it to the citadel, and Merlin can cast spells from here,” he said, as he gestured toward the enemy army, using his magic to cause a few of the sinkholes to collapse.

“You seem quite... sure of yourself. I suppose we will aid you.”

Suddenly a demon guard strode up to Gregory. “Lord! Another enemy army approaches.*

*What!” Gregory strode to the edge of the tower and glared at the army of zombies that was now coming from the north-west.

“Order for 10,000 armoured demons to teleport to the portals just in front of the approaching army when they get near the portals.”

“Yes lord.”

Gregory charged his four turrets with a spell again and sent a surge of energy blasting out at Lucien’s army again, with Merlin watching in amazement.

“Your power has increased greatly since I saw you last. How in the world have you done it?”

“I have been given power by a Mahjarrat and a god. I have also been perfecting my strategy,” he said, as he made a few more sinkholes fall through and cast a massive spell in Lucien’s direction. He then cast a massive smoke spell, stopping the enemy advance in some areas for a few seconds as they couldn’t see where they were going. After that he spent the next few minutes casting ice barrages in every direction, freezing up to 5 thousand troops at one time.

At this point, the enemy army had not even reached the walls, and was still working through the stakes, pitch, and sinkholes. Gregory’s dragons had also begun firing, and the entire land around the tower was wreathed in flame, smoke, and destruction.

About 270,000 of Lucien’s creatures had been destroyed, but more than 190,000 were still ‘living’, filled with hatred, fury, and indignation at being attacked so mercilessly. They were now charging forward at an incredible pace, almost all of the sinkholes had been deployed and almost all of the rings of stakes destroyed.

To the north-west, Zemouregal’s army was also charging forward at an amazing pace, with about 360,000 armoured zombies. As Gregory’s 10,000 deployed armoured demons appeared in front of the zombie army, they smashed and ripped apart about 42,500 zombies before the demons were overrun and defeated.

Realizing that the battle was getting out of hand, and wishing he had summoned more creatures, Gregory finally decided to call out, “Azzandra! Come to my aid!!” Gregory had no idea how powerful Azzandra really was, so he called with doubt. Azzandra teleported next to Gregory, saying, “I was wondering how long you would take to call me.” Smiling, he suddenly transformed from his human form and his face became a skull with glowing, burning eyes. A staff emanating with power appeared in his hand, and he jumped off the tower, flying right over the forces of Lucien, and landed with his back to Lucien’s forces and facing the forces of Zemouregal.

“What!! Why are you here Azzandra? This is not your quarrel.”

“I will make it mine then Zemouregal, for I know your intentions.”

Azzandra jumped into the air, casting a huge wave of power at Zemouregal, sending him flying backwards.

“You cowardly Mahjarrat did*’t team up on me and lock me in that pyramid for no reason. I have real power Zemouregal, and you know it.”

He cast wave after wave of blasting energy, killing thousands of zombies with each blast, and at the same time he fought Zemouregal with massive power.

Gregory, at the top of his tower, watched as Azzandra basically decimated Zemouregal’s force, at the same time as fighting Zemouregal himself. Turning to the battle at hand, he saw Lucien also staring at the duel between the two Mahjarrat with disbelief.

Lucien’s tormented demons finally reached the walls, and started climbing over them. Gregory’s forces fought with even more strength, destroying every creature that Lucien sent over the wall. Finally, Lucien himself sent a wave of power and blasted the defenders off an area of wall, and jumped up himself, ready to continue the fight.

Chapter XXVII

“Lord, the battle is happening now, and it seems as if Gregory is winning,” Narragthangh rumbled.

“Superb! Just wait until both sides are terribly weakened, then we will attack, destroy both of them, take the Staff of Armadyl AND the Stone of Jas, and I will be able to destroy Guthix, Saradomin, Gregory, and all the Mahjarrat! I will finally be the sole power in Runescape.”

“But... lord... Guthix will awake. He will wake and become the nuisance he has always been, eliminating all our plans and making sure we cannot get the upper hand to destroy him.”

“If we do it all quickly, then we will win. Send your forces Narragthangh, and destroy the humans.”

“Yes, Lord Zamorak.”

*******************************************************

“Lord Saradomin! Zamorak is about to attack with his army! He is going to destroy them all and take the Stone of Jas along with the Staff of Armadyl.”

“Very well then Xilyana. Prepare our forces so they can teleport at any moment.”

Lucien had been battling his way up the citadel floors with all his strength. Because of all the traps, the first thing that stepped on the trap would die, but also deactivate the trap, making it possible to pass through. He now had 8000 troops inside the citadel, and about 57,000 more still alive outside, getting battered by Gregory’s archers, mages, and dragons. Gregory himself had come down to the 8th floor, and was having all his forces teleport to that floor to fight Lucien’s army. He himself fought Lucien, both of them shooting barrage after barrage of magical power, and destroying all the creatures around them, friend and foe alike.

Eventually, all the servants of the two mages simply stood against the wall and tried to dodge the flying waves of magic that would kill them if they were hit by it. Gregory had the advantage of his capability to draw more energy from his citadel; Lucien’s advantage was that he had the Staff of Armadyl, and so his spells hit harder and lasted longer.

Suddenly, Gregory had an idea. He cast a teleportation spell on Lucien, teleporting him to the top of the tower. Gregory followed, and then his forces down on the 8th floor could fight with more space. There, the greatest battle the two had ever fought occurred. They cast, they shielded, they burst, they barraged. Yet neither side seemed to get the upper hand. Merlin, the Knights, and some of Gregory’s minions attempted to aid him, but Lucien simply blasted them aside with a burst of magic.

After twenty minutes of fighting, they drew aside for a breath. They were both terribly drained from all that fighting, and although Gregory had plenty of power, supplied from his citadel, and although Lucien had plenty more power from the aid that the Staff of Armadyl gave him, they were both absolutely exhausted from the ultimate concentration the battle required.

But suddenly, they both lost their fatigue, and realized something much bigger was brewing. With a roar of thunder and a flash of light, a titanic army appeared around Gregory’s citadel. It was filled with Zamorak warriors, Zamorak mages, Zamorak rangers, red dragons, greater demons, black demons, abyssal demons, and hundreds of other types of demonic forms. At first glance, Gregory guessed the force could be 20 million strong. Zamorak himself appeared at the north side of the army and boomed, “YOU ARE DOOMED!!!”

As he said this, the entire force charged forward, disregarding the many thousands that threw themselves upon stakes or fell into pits; the living forces simply used their comrades’ bodies as a bridge across whatever it was that killed them.

Azzandra appeared behind Lucien and Gregory, and said, “There is no purpose in us fighting each other. Zamorak intends to destroy all of us.

*That is correct," stated a voice. They all turned around.

“Zamorak wishes to destroy you all, he wishes to destroy Azzandra because he worships Zaros, he wishes to destroy Gregory because he worships me, and he wishes to destroy Lucien because he has the Staff of Armadyl and the Stone of Jas,” said Saradomin. “The only way to stop him is if I come in. I believe that staff will be more useful in my hands,” he said, as he snatched the Staff of Armadyl from Lucien’s hand.

As Saradomin spoke, millions of icyenes floated down out of the sky, and Zamorak gnashed his teeth with rage. Saradomin jumped off the tower, flew at an amazing speed, and landed a few yards in front of Zamorak, brandishing the Staff of Armadyl in his left hand, and his own staff with his right. Without a word, he called upon the full power of both staves, and shot a huge blast, blowing at least 50,000 of the troops behind Zamorak to kingdom come, but without effect on Zamorak himself. Zamorak maliciously grinned, and began to blast Saradomin back.

Meanwhile, the icyenes flew down upon Zamorak’s army, and began stabbing, tearing, and slashing the bodies of the demons and warriors. As the battle raged, Gregory, Azzandra, and Lucien also cast spells in all directions on the armies of Zamorak, while all the forces in the tower shot their missiles as well.

Over by Saradomin and Zamorak, it seemed as if there was a tornado of pure power going up from the two, for they were casting spells at such a pace and with such vehemence that anything for a mile around was instantly obliterated. However, Saradomin was steadily getting the upper hand, for he had two staves of power while Zamorak only had one.

This battle continued for 20 minutes. Suddenly lightning came out of the sky and struck down every single icyene, not killing them but sending them to the ground. Branches came out of the earth and beat down every living thing in Zamorak’s force. And Guthix himself appeared directly between Saradomin and Zamorak just as they were both casting a spell, and he put one hand out in each direction, sending Saradomin and Zamorak both flying.

“Why!! Why did you have to wake me up!! I was just having a happy dream where both of you decided to get along together, when I wake up to find you both are fighting!! Gah!! My Stone, the Stone of Jas, is gone too!! Which one of you has it?!?!”

“Calm down Guthix, I don’t have the Stone, and neither does Zamorak. Someone else took it.”

“SOMEONE defeated my guardian and touched the Stone, I know that. But that someone is not the one that has it. My guardian that was defeated told me that the one who rightfully earned the Stone had it taken away. Only a god or a Mahjarrat could have done that!! Who is it!!!”

“I... I don’t know. It wasn’t either of us, Guthix, I was just attacking Saradomin because I saw a chance to destroy him.”
