Three months later, the citizens of Lunar Isle considered Gregory a brother. He had been exceedingly kind to them all, and taught those that wished many things about the magic of the rest of the world. This had built their trust in him much faster then would otherwise be considered normal. In return, they taught him about their type of magic, and he picked it up fast. In a visit to Baba Yaga one day, they had this conversation:
“Hello! Welcome to my home! How can I help?”
“I wished to ask a few questions... about the Lunar spellbook...”
“Oh indeed! We are coming up with new spells every day, but we only give adventurers a select list of them. We don’t want to give away all our powers.”
“Oh so you can do almost anything with these spells?”
“Not anything, but it is amazing how many things. Almost everything to do with nature can be affected by our spellbook. That means that we can do many things from fertilizing soil to growing a tree in under five minutes.”
“Baba Yaga, you say that your spellbook must be cast using astral runes. Is there not any other way to cast them? I find it... difficult to use astral runes.”
“I don’t see why astral runes are hard for you, but there is another way to cast these spells. Cosmic runes. Cosmic and astral runes are almost the same thing from our point of view, but they have a fundamental difference. Cosmic refers to the entire universe, whereas astral only refers to stars. Astral runes are therefore far more concentrated, as they are focused on only one thing. To cast a spell using astral runes, you only need one or two... to cast the same spell with cosmic runes, you will need twenty times as many cosmic runes to cast the same spell.”
