The room fell silent as Zaros's eyes became unfocused. Not Amsca, he thought. Amsca was his oldest friend, the one that stood by him when no one else did. He saw Amsca's smiling face clearly etched in his mind. The idea that he would never smile again was too much to comprehend.
"Who was it?" asked Zaros finally, bitterness laced in every syllable.
"A local revolutionary," Zamorak replied. "The desert is crawling with them, and now they've seized their chance to take over. Khaseph is in chaos."
Zaros's face darkened further. "Any connection to the Sons of Raldeir?"
"None, as far as we can tell. Enakhra has risen as Queen, but she needs help, as she is surrounded by magicians that want her dead. She has far less sway in that society than Amsca did. Therefore, I propose that Azzanadra go to stabilize the Kingdom."
Azzanadra raised an eyebrow. "Surely, in the present climate, I would be more useful here in Senntisten."
"The people of Khaseph remember and respect you," was Zamorak's response. "Besides, that brings me to the next part of my report. Emperor, your attack on the Sons' headquarters was successful. Their leaders were not present, but most of the others were destroyed. They have not launched an attack since you left, so we believe that their capabilities are restricted. If ever there was a time we were safe, it is now. That is why you can go, Azzanadra."
Zaros nodded. "It makes sense," he agreed. "Besides, Kharid is an important ally. We must do all we can to save it."
"I have devised a military envoy for Azzanadra," Zamorak continued. "Akthanakos should go because he is most familiar with the territory. Also, Fareed and Kamil should go as guards."
Azzanadra looked to Zaros, and the Emperor nodded. "It sounds like a good plan," Zaros replied. "How long will Azzanadra have to stay in Khaseph?"
"Not long," Zamorak replied. "Only until the government restabilizes."
"Alright, it's decided. Good luck, everyone," Zaros said.
