Zaros was barely awake when he got to the communication crystal. There were four of the crystals all around him, each with a different face. In all, there were Zayd, Ulrich of Dareeyak, Alaric of Annakarl, and Lycurgus of Ghorrock. Zaros was pleased to see that he was not alone; they too had been roused from bed.
Azzanadra pulled up a chair, and Zaros took a seat in the middle of the circle of crystals. Azzanadra stood behind Zaros and observed the conversation.
"Gentlemen," Zaros began, his face immediately showing the sombre nature of the situation. "We are definitely not in good shape. As your advisors have undoubtedly told you, Cyprian of Paddewwa and Tolmore of Kharyll have met their ends tonight. A third, Zayd here, almost lost his life as well."
"The Sons of Raldeir have gone too far!" barked Lycurgus.
Zaros raised his hand, and Lycurgus fell silent. "We cannot allow them to sway our reason. They are mighty foes, but now we know what they will do to destroy the Empire."
"They're killing us off, one by one," Alaric finished.
"Correct," Zaros replied. "We have no idea what they plan to gain by doing this. The late Cormac's throne has already been filled, but Cyprian and Tolmore have left an empty throne that may cause chaos. That could be their angle."
"So what do we do now?" asked Zayd. "The world is collapsing around us, and we can't keep it up."
"The only thing I can tell you is to stay vigilant. Allow only the most trusted people you know to approach you, and trust in your security. General Zamorak is putting all his efforts into finding and destroying the Sons of Raldeir."
"So all we can do is wait?"
"I guess so," said Zaros. "I'll make an appearance to the people tomorrow to give them hope. We'll make it through this."
"We sure hope so," replied Lycurgus, and the three faces vanished.
Zaros slumped back in his chair. "Azzanadra, get word around that I'm going to make a speech tomorrow."
"Of course." Azzanadara left the room in a hurry.
