Amascut clutched her head. "What's this?" she demanded, feeling the magical aura surround her. "A curse?" She glared at the cats around her. "What did you do?"
"They added their power to mine," came a voice from the middle of the crowd. A single cat walked out from the rest, and, as it approached Amascut, it morphed back into a man. "They helped me put a curse on you," Zaros explained.
"What curse?"
Zaros smiled. "People will forget you now, Amascut. Your entire power source comes from stirring up fear in the desert people. How can you do this, now that you will never leave an impression on anyone?"
Amascut's eyes widened. "Take this curse away from me! You can't do this!"
"You have no power over me," Zaros replied. "Your curse couldn't make me a cat, and your tattoo melts from my skin the instant it is applied. You can't warp my mind like a regular man."
Amascut raised her hand. "We'll see."
Zaros felt the desert spin, the sky was turning various colors. Zaros's past began to flash before his eyes, and Amascut appeared to be his father, Hasan.
Zaros smiled. "Is that it?" The desert returned to the way it was. "Your hypnosis is weak, Amascut."
The Devourer staggered back. Her power was waning. "Well, if I can't destroy your mind," she barked, drawing a steel scimitar and waving it before him, "then I'll crush your body!"
"Did you learn nothing?"
Amascut began to edge her way toward Zaros, scimitar in hand. "Die!" Her blade glowed with evil power, and she jumped at Zaros.
Zaros suddenly set a smokescreen and dodged. Then, he filled the entire scene in darkness. Amascut froze, trying to see through the blackness, but there was no light.
Suddenly, a flash of red shot through the black. Zaros was swinging three ropes of blood through the darkness, trying to make contact with the Devourer.
Then, the strand of blood burst as it hit Amascut. "Got you!" bellowed Zaros, and he charged her way, his own scimitar ready to disembowel her.
