"Truth be told, most of us care little for mortals and are content to leave them be if they leave us be," Umbra stated, tilting his head slightly. "There are some who enjoy mortals... such as Anima and Animus, but that is part of their very nature. I have heard tales of Lux and Tenebra assuming mortal forms and lingering with mortals... and Nihil quite loves mortals, though that is merely because they are easy tools for him to manipulate. Then there are those who despise mortals, viewing them as impure abominations spawned from fragments of destroyed ancients rather than creatures born of our essences. The four... they fall into that category. Although some of us would oppose them... well, the four are some of the most powerful of our kind; the opposition simply could not stand in their way. Of course, they could if more ancients opposed them... but most simply do not care enough about mortals to decide to do so. Even if they did... well, on the scale we percieve time, the races the four bring near extinction seem to be thriving again in several blinks of the eye. Your kind is simply too short-lived and too quick to reproduce for most ancients to even realize you almost ceased existing for a time."
"Theoretically he could die of age or disease, but the very nature of the Abyss is to be what the world is not. Most likely, only an attempt to slay him could actually end his life. And I do not believe another ancient would arise while he lived. Although creating children from our essences prevents our forces from unraveling if we perish so long as at least one child lives... it will not necessarily prevent another ancient from arising. Thlorian, however... due to the nature of his creation, his Abyssal half is extremely pure; it would not be entirely inaccurate to say he is half mortal and half ancient. I believe his essence is enough to prevent another Abyssal ancient from arising... but I do not know for certain. If I am wrong... well, you won't live to find out."
